Everest (Heeley) - Carol Watson -

Rating:

Numerous Indian restaurants in the local area, but this is always the restaurant I take family and friends to. Food and service is excellent and makes a great night out.

The atmosphere is calm and every time we have been the food is of a high standards and always meets our expectations.

I would definetly recommend Everest.

Nonna's (Sharrow Vale) - Kris Price -

Rating:

We booked a table to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. On arrival we were given a cramped table for two by the toilets, my husband almost being hit by the door every time it was opened. An older couple were given the table next to us and we joked about the cramped conditions, where there was only space for 1 table really. However it appeared the manager knew them and came and moved them to a spacious table that would seat 4.

We were then asked whether we wanted wine and when we responded yes, the waiter acted with surprise. (We are two solicitors in our 30s who were well-dressed). We were then asked within 30 seconds what wine we wanted, when we hadn't had time to even open the wine list.

The food was good and one of the waitresses was pleasant and seemed interested in our views of the new desert on the specials.

When it came to paying the bill the senior waiter charged us an extra pound on each of the deserts, which were actually a pound cheaper on the specials. When my husband pointed this out he told us we had done well to spot it. He then re-entered the amount but then cancelled it and re-entered it at the original price £2 higher than it should have been. We had to point the error out again and were finally able to pay the correct amount.

On leaving the restaurant only one of the waiters actually acknowledged us with most of them barging their way past us.

Saturday Morning Coffee

We then went for coffee on Saturday morning, when it was unusually quiet. My husband asked to place an order for outside and was told he could only do so if we paid for it. Funnily enough we are not accustomed to ordering items we do not wish to pay for.

To our surprise it took 20 minutes for the coffee to arrive outside. My husband went in to chase it after 15 minutes and was told: 'Two cappuccinos, yeah we know'. No apology. Other people who arrived after us had received their coffee and left. Our son who is 10 months was fed up by the time it arrived - less the muffin we had ordered and paid for and had to remind them about.

Rating:

A large group of friends and I had a superb evening in Cubana. Our waitress was great, really friendly and helpful. She recommended a wide range of tasty dishes and my favourite was definitely the Calamres y Chorizo dish and a fantastic Spanish paella, but there was also plenty on offer for my vegetarian friend.

The atmosphere was lively and fun and we had a great night. Will definitely be going back and will recommend to other friends.

Lovely atmosphere, great lighting and surroundings and gorgeous food.

Loved the service and very authentic styled restaurant.

Highly recommended.

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Richard Lewis -

Rating:

I like the food here - it's always cooked fresh and tastes wonderful. You can see Angelo cooking it in the open-plan restaurant and it is this that is my only problem.

When he is cooking not all of the fumes seem to go up the flue and some spill out into the restaurant. This can be annoying, as it irritates my eyes. Apart from that its a wonderful establishment.

Hui Wei (City Centre) - Nicki Burrow -

Rating:

This is our favourite restaurant - would recommend it to everyone. First-class food, great atmosphere. Service can be a little slow sometimes but it's well worth the wait.

Vito's (Walkley) - Jon Styring -

Rating:

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food and service was outstanding, the meals where just right in portion size and the relaxed atmosphere and un-hurried service, complete with a waitress who was very friendly and attentive, only made the night even better.

The prices are irrelevant, as I would gladly pay a lot more for such good, fresh food and very nice wine. I truly wish that I had found Vito's a long time ago, as it has shot to the top of my favourite restaurant list. I will be going a lot more in the future.

Crown & Cushion (Chapeltown) - Mike Osborne -

Rating:

This is the first time my wife & myself have had a meal here & we certainly were not disappointed. The service was excellent with very friendly & helpful staff. And the food was very good, well presented and good value for money.

Must make a special note of the chips, which were probably the best tasting chips I have ever eaten!

It certainly won't be our last visit.

Blue Moon Cafe (City Centre) - J Thorpe, K Parker, L Owen, P Sharma -

Rating:

A ladies-that-lunch Tuesday lunch break, 3 of us strictly meat eaters but 1 colleague vegetarian. We entered the bright, airy building with trepidation, what could we find to eat that would tempt and tantalise our palettes?

The cafe was buzzing, barely a table spare. At the food counter a wonderful array of foods unheard of. Not to worry, the friendly staff were helpful and descriptive of the choices available. We chose homity pie with a generous helping of salad, cauliflower cheese with rice and salad and a bean wrap.

The food was hot, tasty and well-seasoned. Licensed with a good choice of drinks. We all cleared our plates we enjoyed it so much, and would certainly make a return visit.

West 10 (Ranmoor) - Michelle Leedham -

Rating:

I have been going to this restaurant for the last 5 years with my boyfriend. The food and wine has never disappointed and the service excellent. Therefore I decided to take my sister as a treat for her birthday, and my mother. They never get to any decent restaurants and as I constantly rave about West 10 it was something they were both looking forward to.

Our visit was an absolute disaster! The food was fine and not one of us had a complaint about that. But the service would have embarrassed Basil Fawlty. The list of criticisms is endless but here are just a few:

One diner was sat on his own. He had obviously been drinking all day and there was no sign of his meal which I assumed he had already finished. He was absolutely wasted, shouted rather than talked to a group of women and his constant bad language was inappropriate. It was very uncomfortable for the few of us in the restaurant and the waitresses completely ignored the issue. A couple came into the restaurant and were seated on the table next to the drunk even though there were tables available everywhere (they were not busy, even though it was Saturday evening). I could not believe the waitress' choice. After 5 minutes the couple asked to be re-seated and the drunk got the message and left.

My sister and I shared a starter, which my sister liked and asked the waitress what was in it. She said she had no idea, went to grab a menu and tried to read the name of the dish out to us (which we already knew). Unfortunately it was foreign, she couldn't pronounce anything, giggled and gave up.

While I was still eating my starter (fork in mouth) the waitress came to me and asked me if I had finished? "Obviously not", I replied. She was quite put out and said that the chef had already finished our main course and it was now waiting on the side. So we were forced to allow her to take away our starter so the main meal could be served. The steak was excellent although I wouldn't usually eat steak but the choice on the menu was limited. There was no specials board, either. While I was eating another waitress kneeled on the empty chair next to mine, leant over me across the table to collect glasses to the extent that I had to move out of the way.

We asked to see the desert menu, which turned out to be at the bottom of the main menu that we had already seen. (There was a list of sandwiches available on this menu. Obviously they can't be bothered to produce a separate daytime and evening menu!) We actually wanted coffees, which didn't appear on the menu so I asked the waitress what coffees they served. Cappuccino, espresso or percolated she said. I asked if they could make an Irish coffee. No, she said.

I could go on but I won't. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge and I never saw the owner around so I assumed he was on holiday, unless he has moved on. I have to say we found it hilarious because the evening was so ridiculous.

I really do not know what has happened to this place. Whenever friends or family came to stay with us we would always take them to West 10. Whenever we had anything to celebrate my boyfriend and I went to West 10 but I have to say, never again!

We now have to find another favourite restaurant. Gutted!

Jewel (Attercliffe) - Bill -

Rating:

A group of 7 of us went to the restaurant, as it looked quite new and modern and also very quiet, so we thought we would check it out. The restaurant has its own car park at rear, so it saves hassle and is very convenient.

The front of the house (i.e. the waiters) were very friendly and very, very quick to respond to our every need, which is always helpful. We all agreed that the food tasted spectacular and we would easily and happily recommend it to anyone.

The food didn't take long to serve and the meal we ordered was delicious and worth every penny.

So overall we thought that the evening was enjoyable and everyone "up" for a good night. Make sure you check it out.

Rating:

The restaurant was fairly quiet but the hospitality was great. The waiters were quite moderate however they lacked attention to detail.

The restaurant inside looked very modern and cosy although I couldn't say for the outside since it looked boring.

The profile for Jewel on this website says it doesn't have its own car park but in fact it does.

The food came relatively quick and tasted brilliant. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quick tasty Indian meal.

Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - Barbara Wood -

Rating:

We looked at the reviews before we went last night (28th May 2011) and were sceptical about going.

We were a party of eight. Eight starters, eight main courses, two cheese boards, one tart tatin, three coffees (one liqueur), six bottles of wine and two bottles of water came to £292 in total.

For the excellent quality of food I felt this was very reasonable. All the food was cooked to an excellent standard.

The staff were extremely accommodating, efficient and very friendly.

The ambience was wonderful.

My only complaint was the ladies toilet... Very clean but when one sat down, there was little room between my knees and the wall and it was very awkward to move into position!

The toilet needs repositioning.

I can be critical of food and especially service and I will inform the manager if I have a problem. But I had no reason to fault this restaurant!

Well done Mediterranean you are first class! I will be definitely visiting again.

Chez Lahlou (Walkley) - Todd Woods -

Rating:

You simply cannot beat the value for money that you get here. The food is fresh and fantastic. The decor is dated but doesn't deter from the great food.

Service at times was slow but the staff are friendly.

Would recommend you try this place, don't order a starter you simply won't finish the rest of your meal.

Browns (City Centre) - Shaun Greenwood -

Rating:

Food overpriced, no atmosphere.

Friday night about 9 o'clock it was not particularly busy but people were walking out because bar service was taking too long. And to add insult to injury the guy behind the bar "forgot" to give me my change!

All in all, rubbish. It was a lot better when it was Ha Ha Bar!

We attended Jewel restaurant as a pre-booked group of 15 people for a birthday party. The restaurant is relatively new and we thought it would be nice to support new local business. We were sadly disappointed.

The restaurant was relatively empty, however it took two hours to serve the group. When the food was eventually served the waiter served the wrong food to 4 people in the group. The dishes were then swapped once the people had started eating. The waiter even asked a member of the party to taste the naan bread to check that it was not the chilli one.

There was no toilet tissue in the ladies toilets. When asked to replace this, it took 30 minutes. A member of the party had to ask at the bar. She was given toilet tissue to walk through the restaurant with and refill the toilets herself.

The restaurant charged £3 for a pint of diet Pepsi, which seems very expensive, for a drink poured in front of your eyes from a two litre bottle marked £1.39.

As the food took so long to be served a member of the party needed to call a taxi to get home. A waiter was asked to call a taxi (twice). 30 minutes later we asked where this taxi was. The waiter admitted to not making any call.

In light of these issues, I can confirm that the food was good, but the restaurant really needs to sort things out! Hopefully the restaurant reads this and make the necessary changes.

Piccolos (City Centre) - Karen Capps -

Rating:

Our first visit on recommendation.

Food was excellent. Service was amazing. Very attentive staff. We were frequently checked on. Slightly expensive but worth every penny.

The garlic bread was to die for and my steak was perfectly cooked and really tender.

Would happily recommend it.
