Plough Inn (Hathersage) - Greg Price -

Rating:

We have been going to the Plough for many years and it has always been excellent. However, we popped in for a bar lunch today and it fell well short.

Despite not being busy the place was understaffed, with one waitress both serving food and serving at the bar, who was clearly flustered. When I was eventually served I was astounded to be charged £6.70 for one pint of bitter and one Diet Coke!

I asked for the menu but found that there was actually little we could afford so left without eating.

It seems that the Plough is trying to move upmarket, and whilst the food is still probably excellent, perhaps they should lower their sights for lunchtime bar food.

Marco at Milano (Millhouses) - Mariam Raja -

Rating:

I went to Marco at Milano recently with my family. Words can't describe how scrumptious and well prepared the food was. I really enjoyed my main course. I got the sea bass, it was delish. I certainly recommend everyone to go, the service was brilliant, too. It would be ever so hard to refuse to go again!

Well done Marco at Milano! I hope to come again soon.

Brasserie & Bar 59 (Rotherham) - Rebecca Norton -

Rating:

Booked a meal here using a Groupon voucher and had a very pleasant time. The hotel looks a bit like an office block from the outside but the restaurant is nice, very fresh & modern. Food was lovely and my partner's steak was cooked exactly as he asked.

Service was good, maybe a little too good - we had two courses and were in & out in 45 minutes! Probably not the choice for a lingering romantic dinner but couldn't be faulted on food quality & service.

Rowsha (Walkley) - Jim Barter -

Rating:

Excellent food, excellent service.

If the background music CD had been a tad quieter and hadn't kept skipping, I'd have given them 5 out of 5.

Everest (Heeley) - Matt H -

Rating:

Fab restaurant! I have visited this restaurant many times and each time I have thought the food is absolutely delicious. The most striking thing about the food is its freshness and the flavours really come out owing to the attention to detail of the chef.

We are always welcomed and taken to a table straight away and have our drinks and poppadoms ordered within 2 minutes of sitting down, even though it was obviously busy.

There was an enormous range of food to choose from and we were spoilt for choice, which is rare for vegetarians! The food was delicious and had very generous portions. The waiters are always at hand to check if we want more drinks when we were empty and felt very looked after.

Overall I would definitely go there again and again as this is far the best Indian restaurant we have been to in Sheffield.

Kebabish Original (Sharrow) - Saba -

Rating:

Just for the sake I gave it 1 out of 5, which it doesn't deserve.

The place is good but the chef and employees are the worst. I am an Indian and this restaurant has no flavour of those dishes that they cook.

I won't tell me friends to go and have a lunch in this shop.

Bella Donna (Renishaw) - Ann & Craig McGaheran -

Rating:

I booked a table for my husbands 40th birthday and we weren't disappointed.

What a wonderful place, the food was amazing, the atmosphere relaxed and the staff very friendly and helpful and did everything they possibly could to make our evening special. We weren't rushed into ordering, or into finishing our meal and leaving.

Everything on their menu is freshly cooked to order. We are avid garlic lovers and asked if we could have extra garlic, which was no problem at all. In fact, nothing was a problem and Donna was the perfect hostess.

They even came out with a cake for my hubby and sang him happy birthday, which was so lovely and just made our experience that bit more special.

Will definitely be recommending this restaurant to our friends and family and will certainly be returning again ourselves very soon.

Uncle Sam's (Sharrow) - Norman Todd -

Rating:

My wife and I have been visiting Uncle Sam's for 32 years. It is a lively, vibrant place to eat. The kids, now grown up, love the place. Although we live a long way from Sheffield we make a point of visiting at least 5 or 6 times a year. It is the only place on the planet I would eat burger and chips, simply because the quality of the food is superb.

To be fair we have had the odd grumble - about 3 in total, which isn't bad going in all the time we have been going. Daughter and son when asked where they wanted to go to eat as part of their graduation celebrations, opted for Uncle Sam's. Long journey but worth it. There are not many places that can boast such a long tradition.

They have only recently just tweaked the menu. A restaurant for everyone whoever they are or wherever they come from.

Golden Ball Inn (Rotherham) - Nathan Broadhead -

Rating:

New menu and new head chef from what I'm told, and we were certainly impressed.

The meal last night (13th July 2011) is one of the best I've had at a pub for a very long time. I would highly recommend the sharing platter, and my mixed grill was excellent. The sea bass was very good, although my wife wished afterwards she had the steak after seeing other tables eating the rump/sirloin.

Very impressed with the quality and price, and will definitely be going again.

Chutney (Gleadless) - Pete M -

Rating:

The best tasting curries I've ever had, coriander and garlic naan is to die for! Great surroundings and next to the Red Lion pub with very cheap beer.

I can't speak highly enough of this place. Been about 30 times and never a bad meal or experience.

Very friendly, extremely good service and the most excellent food. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Thank you for some lovely evenings.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Michelle -

Rating:

I visited Canton Orchard this Saturday evening and would not go ever again.

The staff, with the exception of the manager, were rude and unhelpful. They were snappy and made me feel like I was asking for the world.

As with other reviews you could not read the bill and was offered a pen and calculator.

In conclusion you stick to the carpet and don't drink the tap water!

I can not rate this as they don't do minus stars.

Piccolino (City Centre) - Peter Suthons -

Rating:

We went to Piccolino 1/7/11 and I am sorry to say the food was very poor.

Our steaks were very overcooked and dry. The manager, when he did come over, tried to get away with "sorry". In the end we paid for 1 steak.

We will not be going back!

Marco's (Woodseats) - Sue Bacon -

Rating:

We have been going to Marco's for 6 years now and we have always been served with a smile from the very happy staff.

The food is home cooked and gives me a night off from cooking at home and I leave with no dishes to wash up and at a price that is affordable in these times.

When my family visit from all over the world they always want us to take them back to Marco's, as they have never been disappointed and there is such a varied menu, something for everyone from steak and chips, pasta, pizza and so much more including starters and plenty of desserts to choose from.

There is usually fresh fish on the specials board also. Another bonus is taking your own wine, which really bumps up the price in normal restaurants. We will always go back to Marco's, it is an institution for us.

An extremely happy customer for the last 6 years and for the future.

Chutney (Gleadless) - Lisa Caley -

Rating:

Visited Chutney for the first time on Saturday.

Wow - a lovely restaurant, excellent service, but most of all the food is out of this world. Best I've ever had.

Lovers of Indian food must definitely eat here. Awesome!

Mama's & Leonie's (City Centre) - Alan -

Rating:

I have been going to this place for years and simply love it. The food, value and atmosphere are excellent. It is well situated in the theatre quarter and you will not be disappointed. I personally love sitting at the counter downstairs - great fun.

Swan (Ridgeway) - Stuart Goodrum -

Rating:

The Swan has a great atmosphere with great hospitality, also with the Cygnet gives you added choice of venue.

The Swan has great entertainment with bands and a quiz night. And for the added special is the great choice of homemade food.

Situated in a quiet village it's the perfect place to have a meal.

Highly recommended, as I love it.

Parthenonas (Highfield) - Helen Jennings -

Rating:

Oh my goodness, what can I say? This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a long time, and I eat out pretty often.

When we arrived the head waiter completely ignored us and started seating people who came in after us. We were then left for an hour before our starter arrived - which was mediocre at best. It consisted of butter beans in tinned tomatoes, tinned vine leaves and very average hummous.

Our mains then took another hour to come and were also very ordinary.

The only redeeming feature was the wine per glass, which was surprising nice for the price.

My advice - go elsewhere!
