Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Sarah Jones -

Rating:

I had my hen night here and booked the whole place out, Christmas 2004. We all ate together, veggies and meat eaters together. All 42 had our starters, mains and desserts together - brilliant! Made my special night VERY special.

Eaten here loads of times of since, and always yummy, an added bonus to Ecclesfield village.

Old Horns Inn (Bradfield) - Lauren Walsh -

Rating:

I visited the Old Horns Inn at Bradfield on a Saturday lunchtime. The pub was fairly busy, with what looked like a wedding party, and various other tables of diners.

The pub offers table service and I ordered the burger from the specials board, which came with bacon, cheese, sweet chili sauce and chips.

The food arrived quickly enough and was hot. The firs thing that I noticed was the sheer amount of chips - I was obviously not going to leave hungry! Whilst not to everyone's taste, these were like chips that you'd get from the fish and chip shop.

To be honest the burger was a bit of a let down. The bread bun was more like the type that you'd have for a sandwich rather than a burger - a bit "fluffy". One of my pet hates is putting grated cheese on a burger - I much prefer a slice - and this pub does grated cheese. The burger itself was a bit fatty, so it may have been deep fried rather than grilled, I'm not sure.

The dish would have benefited from a bit more coleslaw in my opinion. It came in one of the little dishes that you usually get condiments like tomato ketchup in.

At £7.95 it wasn't exactly great value for money, but the restaurant itself is nice and they do a good range of real ales, so it was an enjoyable enough meal.

I'd go back but would choose something different from the menu. The gammon looked good and came with two eggs as well as pineapple, peas and chips.

Shapla (City Centre) - Glen Marshall -

Rating:

Absolutely gobsmacked at some of the reviews on here... we go a couple of times a month, and have never had a bad meal. Food is certainly one of the best in and around Sheffield, and beats the overrated Aagrah easily in my opinion.

Don't let the bad reviews put you off - highly recommended!

Bella Napoli (Nether Edge) - Elizabeth Dawes -

Rating:

If you want to eat really well on tasty authentic Italian food then try this wonderful restaurant.

Small, intimate space, but food is cooked to order in the tiny kitchen by the owner and it is truly wonderful

Take your own wine, and booking is essential.

Chutney (Gleadless) - John Tashock -

Rating:

I have been a Chutney customer since they opened last year. I regularly visit them and use their free delivery option all the time. Delivery is prompt and efficient. The food is superb and cooked with great care. The restaurant is very busy, I would advise anyone to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

I am really disappointed and shocked to see Kirsty's recent comment, the restaurant is usually extremely busy and all the staff work their hardest to provide the best customer experience, the waiters had the courtesy to tell us that our food would be delayed at times because of the massive amount of orders and people in the restaurant at the time. This is usually a rarity because the restaurant's really popular with locals.

The normal delivery time is between 30-45 minutes, but on occasion can go up to an hour. I cannot recommend the restaurant enough and I'm a regular customer.

Overall the food is exquisite, the restaurant has a good atmosphere and I will be sure to remain a customer and this will remain to be my favourite restaurant in Sheffield.

When you go to Chutney the food is always great and the staff are always friendly. I have never had a bad meal and have had several functions there and have always found the staff very accommodating.

Maranello's (Sharrow Vale) - Mr & Mrs Gascoigne -

Rating:

Excellent meal! Love, love, love!

Date of review: 13th April 2011

Came here with my wife and two daughters - food was fresh, well presented and above all beautiful! The girls love pizzas and they don't get better than a Maranello's one!

Staff were friendly and looked as if they enjoyed what they do.

Overall very happy family day out! We will be returning soon.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Sue -

Rating:

I had a great experience at the Canton Orchard. The manager (what I can guess) that reviewers seem to have criticised I thought to be a very friendly, generous and charming man.

The food arrived, and I thought it was delicious, I have been to many Chinese restaurants in Sheffield, as I love Chinese food. Yes the food here is more expensive than your usual ones in town, London Road, however I think it is worth it, as the quality of the food was second-to-none. It was truly delicious. I particularly loved the lobster, mmm could have it every day.

The grounds that the Canton Orchard is set in are romantic and classy, great atmosphere. I recommend it to people, and think it is especially nice for occasions such as anniversary dinners, birthdays etc... maybe a special day if you can't afford to eat there every week, like me! Hehe!

I came here on my birthday and they made a real effort to make it a truly wonderful day! Maybe these peeps caught the manager on a wrong day? Because the one I met did not seem to be anything like the one described!

I really hope one/two of these reviews do not put people off coming to this restaurant, as it is me, my family and friends' favourite place and hope that people can enjoy it as much as we do!

Cubana (City Centre) - Claire and David Simmonite -

Rating:

We went on a Thursday, which was their Jazz and Swing night. Both the food and service were outstanding.

We had a mixture of meat and veggie dishes - the 'recommended' selection is great value for money and a good way to try new things. They do a 'happy hour', which we used as an an excuse to sample several Latino beers and the extensive cocktail menu!

All in all, a top night out.

Mohul (Totley) - Andrew Walters -

Rating:

Having been to all of the top rated Indian restaurants in Sheffield it had been quite some time since I last visited the Mohul. I can safely say that on this visit I would certainly put this in the top three.

From start to finish I could not fault any of the dishes I chose. Everything tasted fresh, with just the right amount of spicing so as not to overpower the dish, which is a common fault in a lot of other restaurants.

Highly recommended if you're in the south of Sheffield.

Vito's (Walkley) - Hattie Hedgecock -

Rating:

Really good food. Don't be put off by the massive menu, Vito can definitely pull it off.

Really authentic food, great atmosphere, lovely staff.

Wholeheartedly recommend Vito's for any occasion! 10/10!

Browns (City Centre) - Lauren Walsh -

Rating:

After hearing that Ha Ha Bar & Canteen had closed down and been replaced by Browns, we decided to try them for lunch. There is a menu on display outside and we could see that it was a little expensive but hoped that the food would justify the prices.

The interior of Browns is minimalist and attractive. There were plenty of diners downstairs but we easily found a table upstairs, which was almost empty. Shortly after sitting down a waiter brought menus and gave us details of the dishes on the specials board.

We both decided to go for the Browns burger, which at £9.95 has got to be at the top of the price range for a burger! The burger is advertised as coming with "celeriac coleslaw, pickle, red onion, tomato and crisp seasoned chips".

The food arrived quickly and was hot. The portion sizes were average at best - you don't get a lot for your £9.95. They definitely didn't live up to our expectations. We both had hard chips, which left us asking whether they were frozen. The tomato was a single slice and the celeriac coleslaw was little more than a spoonful. The burger, although nice enough, was nothing special, either.

The bill for 2 burgers and bottles of Leffe Blonde came to a little under £28. Although we couldn't fault the service and decor, the food was overpriced for what we got. We both thought that we could have had the same elsewhere for about half the price.

Chutney (Gleadless) - Kirsty Barber -

Rating:

The food from here is always fantastic as long as you don't mind a 2-hour wait for a takeaway, after two phones calls to find out where my meal was, on one of these calls the phone was picked up and put straight down on me (very professional).

If you visit the restaurant you can expect to wait 40 minutes plus between courses and witness staff running around like headless chickens. BUT your food will always be very nice.

It is the worst-organised restaurant I have ever been to and feel that this will lose Chutney customers. I myself will not be returning and I know of several others that feel the same.

Please get more staff and improve your organisation so that I can return.

Cubana (City Centre) - Peter McDermott -

Rating:

I have visited Cubana on a number of occasions in recent years and always enjoyed it, so I hired the venue for my 50th birthday party. 80+ people attended and we had an amazing night, the atmosphere, the food (deluxe buffet) and the music (50/50 split between salsa and commercial) were first-class.

Free salsa lessons were thrown in by DJ Nicolai. Everyone (aged 16-60) danced until 1AM and commented it was the best party they had been to in years. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

Would I recommend Cubana... YES 100%, a great venue for a party, whatever your age.

Zeenat (Attercliffe) - Sharon and Matt -

Rating:

We've tried a great number of Indian takeaways as our "once a week" treat. Nothing comes near this one. The standard is absolutely wonderful and the taste is authentic, not greasy and the particularly generous portions and excellent value for money.

Many, many thanks Zeenat - we'll recommend you to ALL our friends. We'll be coming to try your infamous "buffet night" soon.

Cubana (City Centre) - Vincent Dalton -

Rating:

Cubana is our favourite tapas restaurant! The food is delicious and the variety and value makes us go back week after week (especially the meatballs!).

We also love the live music and often have a boogie, the atmosphere is lively but also very chilled. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for lovely food, very friendly staff and a great night out!

BB's (City Centre) - Peter Wright -

Rating:

Was advised to go to BB's by a friend but will never go again.

Food was ordinary and service was terrible.

If you want a nice evening don't go to BB's.

Blue Moon Cafe (City Centre) - Elaine Burke -

Rating:

Really lovely welcoming cafe. The food is something else, the fruit scones and homemade jams are amazing.

Spoilt for choice at lunchtime. Highly recommended cafe.

Zing Vaa (City Centre) - Doug Kyle -

Rating:

Chaotic on Sunday afternoon. More Chinese than English, indicating that it is authentic and good. It was both. It was cheap. Tea refills check and action without asking.

Probably the best in Yorkshire.

Fat Cat (Kelham Island) - Doug Kyle -

Rating:

Whilst better known for its beer than its food, this was top notch pub grub as it should be. No change in the kitchen! "Oh pay at the bar". We did.

The steak pie was good, wholesome food, perhaps a little over-gravied for some tastes. The service was extraordinarily quick.

Not expensive and very good value
