Taybarns (Tankersley) - Dennis Stansall -

Rating:

We came for a meal for my birthday. I brought my wife and granddaughter, who is only 2-and-a-half years old.

It cost us £3.99 for her and all she would eat was a bit of soup and a bit of ice cream. I don't think that was worth £3.99 do you? We told them that she would not eat anything but he said would still have to pay £3.99.

I think it was shocking so we will not be coming again.

Saigon68 (Highfield) - Lisa -

Rating:

My husband is Vietnamese and tells me the food tastes very authentic and takes him back to when his mum cooked for him.

I personally love the sweet and sour pork (although it is a Chinese dish). The portions are huge and well worth popping that top button for. Staff are good and can help explain dishes if needed. And the price is unbelievably cheap, especially for the amount you get.

They could do with adding a few more desserts to the menu, if you still have space for more food that is.

Other than that it is perfect and we are regular visitors to Saigon68.

ArtHouse Cafe, Deli & Gallery (Penistone) - Sarah George -

Rating:

I came to the ArtHouse on the recommendation of a friend recently. It is tucked away behind the church in Penistone - which is a pretty little market town for those not from "around here".

There are little tables outside on sunny days, which means you can eat outdoors and take in the view of the church. When I was there, there was unfortunately a skip just up the road which ruined the aspect somewhat!

I ordered a deli board, which was clearly freshly prepared and delicious. There was a selection of Yorkshire cheeses, which the waitress told me about, and even Yorkshire chorizo, which I had never even heard of! The deli board was served with fresh crusty bread and butter.

I found the service very friendly from a smiley waitress, and would recommend. I intend to return soon with friends and have their "afternoon tea", which I saw advertised whilst I was there. If it's as good as my food was today... I can't wait!

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Julia Lazar -

Rating:

We've been going to Canton Orchard for years, and the food and service have conststently been of top standard. The food has always been excellent no matter what we've ordered, and we have always tried something new off the menu.

Also the hospitality is fantastic: friendly and well-trained staff and a most welcoming host, who has been most generous to us and treats us like friends whenever we come back.

We've so enjoyed coming here - well done Canton Orchard.

Mint Leaf (Dronfield) - Mick Scott -

Rating:

Absolutely appalling. Curry tasted like it came out of a jar, was cold and the cheese nan contained cheese slices! Service was very very slow, our waiter said it was because they were busy (numerous empty tables).

Our table was booked for 8PM. When we arrived we stood in the reception area for 5 minutes being ignored by several staff and when we were eventually approached we were told to sit at the bar. He never asked us if we had a reservation.

In all, extremely poor in every aspect. We will never eat in the Mint Leaf again.

Cow And Calf (Grenoside) - Grant -

Rating:

Lovely place. After reading a review further down I decided to write my own review of this place.

I wouldn't call myself a regular but I do visit the pub a few times a month with a small group of friends. I have always found the staff to be fantastic. The majority of the staff, in fact I'd say all except the landlord and landlady, are under 25 so fair enough you're not getting 5-star treatment but this is a village pub. They're not unprofessional, they're very polite - you only have to be in the pub for a short space of time to see that all the staff have a great relationship with regular customers.

I have never eaten here but again it's a village pub not a 5-star restaurant.

When you put together the service, the atmosphere and of course the price of a pint in this place it's fantastic!

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Amanda Hodgkinson -

Rating:

The food was very tasty.

Dessert portions were on the small size for the price.

However, I would not return, as both myself and my husband (we had the same food) became ill in the middle of the night following our meal out at this restaurant.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Rob -

Rating:

What a treasure. We received a warm welcome on arrival from the owner and went on to have a wonderful meal.

Despite the restaurant being quite busy our orders were taken quickly, which with a 5 year old was a godsend.

We left the wine choice to the owner, who didn't disappoint with a very well priced Chablis and you must try the lamb special.

Our daughter loved putting together her duck pancake roll and then polished off her egg fried rice.

Can't fault this place. Great food, great wine, great company - highly recommended.

Parthenonas (Highfield) - Rachel Morgan -

Rating:

We went on a Monday night and surprisingly, it was quite busy. The host (who I think is the owner) was very nice and gave a good explanation of the food that we were not familiar with.

We all ordered a starter and a main and there was not one complaint amongst us!

We did have a wait in between courses but I didn't mind, as the courses were so huge.

As much as I enjoyed it, beware of the extra charge if you are paying by debit card, which is about £2.50.

Will definitely go back!

Spoon (Woodseats) - Barbara Johnson -

Rating:

A relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The food is freshly cooked and very tasty. I really like this place. No fuss but good food and wine.

La Dolce Vita (Crosspool) - Jill Williams -

Rating:

If you want to experience a genuine family run Italian restaurant then this is definitely worth a try. We have eaten there three times (twice in large groups) now and although there may have been teething troubles (though we have not experienced any) the welcome is genuine and the food we have had good.

Within reason they will accommodate any personal requests if you fancy anything different to the set menu but it would be better to check this with them first.

Booking is advisable, as the restaurant is small and it is worth remembering that this is not intended to be fast food - everything is prepared in-house - bread and (excellent) cakes being homemade.

Check out other websites for other reviews, most of them are pretty good.

It is a bring-your-own (corkage charge applies) but amaretto or limoncello is offered after the meal, which is a nice touch. Excellent coffee! (They do morning coffee, too.)

Cow And Calf (Grenoside) - Julie -

Rating:

I recently revisited the Cow And Calf after around 8 years and I was very impressed.

The pub is in a brilliant location, with a huge beer garden perfect for summer days and nights.

The first time I revisited was with a small party. We had a two course meal, which was nice, not the best menu in the world but I believe that all Samuel Smiths pubs have the same menu and choices. But the food was cooked well and of a reasonable price. It did take a while to be prepared but we were part of a large party and the pub itself was busy so all staff were busy.

My husband and I have since returned on a couple of Friday nights and have found it to be a lovely pub and atmosphere, plus it helps that the beers cheap! The staff are smart and very friendly. All in all this is a great family pub.

Zeugma Iki (Heeley) - S Basheer -

Rating:

Love, love, love this place! Amazing food (favourites: lamb ribs - kaburga and adana kabab) and friendly smiling service.

Food arrives promptly enough but very freshly made. Generous portion sizes with plenty of meat. Both the husband and I crave the rice, which is so tasty and complements the meat very well.

Parthenonas (Highfield) - Janet Claydon -

Rating:

Arrogant man served us, very rude and abrupt.

We had booked a table which wasn't ready for our booking, which had been made days in advance.

The food was OK, nothing to rave about, but half way through the meal they told us we had to move tables, as they had given another table away even though the party had booked theirs.

A night ruined by a very inconsiderate man (think he was the owner). He even chased the party out of the restaurant shouting at them as they left.

Won't go back.

Akbar's (Rotherham) - Nigel Davey -

Rating:

Been going here for ages. We (the wife and I) promised ourselves that we would come once a month. That lasted about a minute. We go every Sunday, as the food is simply to die for, all the staff are friendly and willing to answer any question you may have. The ambient lighting is simply perfect and the prices are more than reasonable.

Overall a 10 out of 10 all round.

Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - Laura -

Rating:

We ate at the Mediterranean last Tuesday night after a tiring 3 days away. It was relaxed, the food (various tapas cooked to our specification) was tasty - and the service great. We quickly congratulated ourselves on picking the "Med" as a place to unwind.

A previous reviewer suggests that the waiter was too busy chatting to a blonde to take their dessert order. The "blonde" in question was me and the person the waiter was chatting to, was my 75 year old recently bereaved father, who hasn't been to the restaurant for a while - and was incredibly touched to be remembered and made to feel so welcome.

The bream was fantastic, the whitebait fresh and crispy, the meatballs delicious. We were left for a while to contemplate dessert (always good not to be rushed) and finished off the night with a couple of mouthwatering desserts.

Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - Michelle Webster -

Rating:

Booked a meal tonight for my wedding anniversary. Arrived and everything was going well - good atmosphere and good service.

Starters were very good, but then it went down hill very quickly. My meal overcooked - isn't fish supposed to just peel away from from the bone? And my husband's dish - monkfish tail - we would have been better over the road with a decent spicy sauce to the dish!

But we went on, trying to give benefit of the doubt, to find the waiter was more interested to chatting to a blonde than take our order of dessert/cheese and coffees, so we left. By this point we'd had enough.

I suggest they need to look at the quality of food being served and the service in general. We will not be going back in a hurry. So very disappointed.

Hui Wei (City Centre) - Jenny -

Rating:

This is the best Chinese food I've ever had. It's fresh and cooked to order. It's true the service can be slow but get a starter! The lettuce wrap starter for 2 is just gorgeous.

My husband and I have been twice this week. My favourite dish is the tofu and beef dish. Mah-poh... or Mah-toh... something like that (sorry!).

I'm not a big meat eater because I don't like the chewy and tough texture it can have in restaurants and the meat here is perfectly tender. Had beef last time and pork this time.

Cannot wait to go again!

Wong Ting (City Centre) - Tom Boydell -

Rating:

I eat here fairly often and I think that this is probably the best Chinese restaurant I have been to.

The so-called "buffet" is excellent value. I say "so-called" because unlike most buffets you do not go and help yourself. Rather you order as much as you like, as often as you like, from a very extensive menu, and the food is then cooked and delivered to your table. It is therefore fresh and not been waiting in self-service containers for a long time, as is so often the case.

There is also an extensive a la carte menu, some specials, and dim sum. You have to ask about the latter - the menu isn't on the table but is brought specially. It seems to be mainly for Chinese people but there are English translations.

For me the staff range from perfectly OK to brilliant.

Rowsha (Walkley) - Margaret Bell -

Rating:

6 of us had a meal at Rowsha on bank holiday Monday.

We had vegetarians with us and were amazed by the choice of dishes for vegetarians and meat lovers alike.

The service was quick and extremely friendly and the food was varied and delicious. We were also given extra treats as we were celebrating our son's engagement. This was a lovely touch.

We found the atmosphere extremely friendly and helpful.
