Ordered takeaway. When it finally arrived it was barely lukewarm. Phoned to complain but they showed no interest or concern. Will not be ordering ever again.

La Dolce Vita (Crosspool) - Beverley Eaton -
Rating:
I have been prompted to write this review as I have just read Martin Dawes' review of La Dolce Vita in the paper, and concur with him.
Six of us went to this restaurant last week, and afterwards said we would not be going again.
For a starter I had foccacio (one slice of bread) topped with four cherry tomatoes. The main course was worse - I ordered sole and salad. Salad consisted of half a bag of mixed leaves with a cherry tomato on top, with another bowl of mixed leaves as a side dish. The fish was not cooked - raw in one place. We were told that the sole shouldn't be overcooked - no apologies and no questions about whether we were satisfied with the meal.
The best part of the whole evening was the company, and take your own wine.
I live in the area, as do the other friends, and we will certainly not be going back. Our opinion was that it's over-priced, with poor-to-mediocre food on this occasion, and the service certainly could have been better.

Piccolino (City Centre) - Paul Twyford -
Rating:
Visited this restaurant with my wife and friend who is a local businessman.
No problems with the table, post-main lunch session. Food was OK but not startlingly good considering prices.
One waiter was a little pushy. I only wanted salad but he kept trying to persuade me to have additional food.
Drinks were overpriced, particularly espresso coffee, 2 sips and it was gone, and £7 for a medium sized glass of pinot grigio.
Will not be returning.

Cow And Calf (Grenoside) - Harry Hoing -
Rating:
Very disappointing overall. The food used to be a lot better. The menu is a bit muddled.
I asked if every meal was available and was told it was, but the people in my party were told upon requesting different meals that certain meals were not available. Some ordered meals only to find out when they arrived they were different meals than what were on the menu.
Staff overall were not very professional, practically throwing drinks and change at you.
I don't think I will go again, or maybe once more just in case my recent visit was a one-off, but I don't really think so.

Jade Orient (Arbourthorne) - John David -
Rating:
We tried this restaurant for the first time because our usual one was fully booked.
Parking outside was easy, and once inside we were delighted with the service and attention given to us by the waiter.
It was a very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room between the tables and the decor was upbeat for a Chinese family restaurant.
The food came promptly after ordering, and the taste and quality was nicer than our usual place.
A very nice experience. We will definitely go back again.

Rating:
First time visiting the Cow And Calf, and what a great public house it is, set in spectacular scenery, with warm and welcoming staff.
The landlord was very pleasant and the beverages were of a high quality, plus the price was brilliant. A very clean and tidy pub indeed with a cosy country feel.
Would appeal to most clientele, and after just spending a few hours here I could see it was the heart of the Grenoside community.
Good work Cow And Calf, I look forward to revisiting the next time I'm walking around here.

I have to say the food was really good, but there was a couple of things that didn't really work out.
"No high-chair for the little one" was the slightly harsh reply from a rather English looking guy. Also, you should make sure that you don't need the loo while you're there. And be patient when explaining what you want to order.

I chose the chicken and leek pie with vegetables and chips. This was mainly leeks with a few bits of tasteless white meat, which I assumed was the chicken. A piece of pastry was floating on the top of gravy, which tasted like a stock cube in water.
Chips were reasonable and the vegetables turned out to be peas, but both were overcooked.
A forgettable visit.

Whitby's (Rotherham) - Michael John -
Rating:
Visited this restaurant many times for 'a quick lunch', as the cod is always first-class, as is the fish pie.
However, the 'robotic' staff are always more interested in chatting amongst themselves and carrying out their cleaning regime rather than seeing to the needs of their guests.
This, however, will not put me off and I will return.

I frequently passed this restaurant and thought it looked attractive so I decided to go and give it a try.
I have been to many Indian restaurants and by far this was the best.
The food was amazing and the service from the staff was the best I have ever experienced.
Also the interior and design of the whole place was beautiful.
I will be returning there many more times and would recommend it to everyone.

We booked our table for 8PM and as soon as we walked in we were made to feel very welcome. The restaurant is very stylish and spotless.
Our waitress was very helpful. We ordered a bottle of wine, which I thought was a little warm, so she fetched ice.
The duck starter was exquisite - pancakes and the richest hoisin sauce ever! For mains I had fresh, crunchy bean shoots and mushrooms with chicken, full of amazing flavours. Hubby had Thai red curry! Very, very, hot and he was as red as the curry but he loved it. Eggy rice and prawn toast complimented our meal.
One problem - our toast was overdone but ASAP and so humble and full of apologies we got a new set!
Fabulous, fantastic service, lovely staff, cheap but top quality. A little gem - you've got to go.

Silversmiths (City Centre) - Chris Markham -
Rating:
Just endured a Mother's Day meal at Silversmiths. The table was booked for 4PM and although a free cocktail was advertised as being offered to "Mothers" we had to ask three time before this was provided.
My starter was pork belly, which was very dry and the accompanying crackling was very tough and rather tasteless.
For the main I had the beef sirloin with Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. I can honestly say that this was amongst the worst meals I have ever endured. The beef was tough and fatty, the Yorkshire pudding was old, flat and bland and the roast potatoes would have made "Aunt Bessie" ashamed.
Following the amazingly poor starter and main I plumped for the cheese board for the third course. Amongst the cheeses advertised was Yorkshire Blue, which is a particular favourite. On arrival the cheese board consisted of three 3mm slices of three cheeses with 4 plain water biscuits and a very small piece of fruit loaf, a few onions and a tablespoon of dry sultanas masquerading as chutney. The cheese board was dry, bland and tasteless made worse by the fact that no butter was offered or present on the board.
Following the great reviews that Silversmiths has received in the past I was extremely disappointed by the worse than mediocre offering at Silversmiths. This, coupled with the poor service, excused by the fact that "we've been extremely busy" made my visit to Silversmiths a non event.

Lovely Mother's Day Sunday carvery, the lamb was to die for. A real change from the British roast.
My children were catered for in respect of a small portion of chips and ice cream for afterwards.
Staff very friendly and above all very clean premises, as were the toilets.
Would recommend a visit by anyone in Sheffield.

Visited last Friday, the 9th March. The restaurant was quite busy but we managed to get a table (will book next time).
Our food was quite simply delicious and lots of it. The service was again excellent. Thank you Abdul.
We have visited this restaurant before but not for a while. I have to say that the experience was simply wonderful - please keep it up Balti King. We will be back soon.

Rating:
Visited Whitby's restaurant today and purchased Sheffield fish cake and chips twice. Not sure where you get your recipe for the fish cakes from, but as a Yorkshire man born and bred in Sheffield, fish cakes are two slices of potato with slices of fresh white cod deep fried in batter, not as you sell with reconstituted various fish.

We have been to this restaurant twice and each time was highly delighted. The food is exceptional and the waiters very attentive.
The decor is very relaxing, with light background music. I have read reviews about the expensive meals - depends what you order, there are some a little more expensive than "usual" but also there are some menus that you don't get in your "usual" curry houses.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Try for yourself instead of being put off by other people's disappointments.

I went there last month for a birthday lunch and was very impressed by the amount and quality of the food at such reasonable prices. The service was good and for a "cafe" (as they describe themselves) this is an excellent venue.
