Bay of Bengal (Gleadless) - Sandra and Stuart Hill -

Rating:

Thursday 8th November 2012 decided to try the Muroogh Mas-sallam Indian feast. It was well worth the notice required, as the meal was beyond our wildest expectations. The chicken fell off the bone and yet was still moist, the quantity and spicy flavours were unbelievable. We intend to try the duckling and the lamb in due course. Best Indian meal we have ever had.

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Ken Masheder -

Rating:

Six of us (family) had a meal here Saturday night. Great food at a reasonable price.

The staff were very friendly. We were not rushed, just as an Italian restaurant should be!

The open kitchen and cooking smells added to the atmosphere, and made you look forward to your meal even more!

Graduate (City Centre) - Ben -

Rating:

The food is half decent pub grub. Atmosphere is sociable and the pub has a good vibe. The food, even when it is quiet, takes forever to arrive (40+ minutes). I used to go after the gym. I will never go there for food again.

I had a private party for my birthday and I have to say the food and service was excellent. Great value for money and will definitely be returning.

Bay of Bengal (Gleadless) - Nick -

Rating:

We have been here quite a few times and the service is amazing. The food is brilliant and we have never been rushed. We have even taken the kids before and they were great with them, offering kids meals and being very good with them. We've also been alone for a romantic meal and they made it very special. Overall a fab place.

Blue Moon Cafe (City Centre) - Perda -

Rating:

Fantastic green pepper and butternut squash curry. Amazing portion. Fantastic value for money. Where else could you go and get such a plateful of wonderful food for under seven pounds? The flavours in the curry were delicious and in the accompanying dal. Excellent.

Only my third visit, as I am not local, however will return when I next visit Sheffield.

Cafe Ceres (Hunters Bar) - Christina Tudor -

Rating:

Was looking forward to trying the new Cafe Ceres. Unfortunately, really poor service meant we didn't get the chance. We ended up walking out after waiting nearly 45 minutes for lunch that never arrived - not least because our parking ticket was running out.

A quick look on TripAdvisor shows that this is a common problem at Ceres. What was worse was the staff lied to us and told us our food was on its way and didn't seem that bothered that they had lost 4 customers.

Won't be going back.

Ayesha's (Dronfield) - Callum Westwood -

Rating:

These guys have definitely made an impact on my taste buds. I can eat spicier food now because of the flavour.

Try it you won't be let down. Ask for Mizan or Habib, they will tell you what you would really enjoy, no lie.

Rajput (Walkley) - Denise Ford -

Rating:

We ate at this restaurant early Friday evening. The food was absolutely spot on, but unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the service. The welcome was tepid to say the least. I'm not sure what the staff thought they were employed to do, but it certainly wasn't to make their customers feel welcome.

The food was served promptly, but once we had finished we were glared at I can only think because they wanted us to leave. One of the waiters then began to tap his pen on his hand behind one of our party as he stood and stared. I have never been to a restaurant where the staff appear to hate their customers!

This is the first and last time we will be eating here. Such a shame as the food was the best I've tasted in a while.

Fairways Inn (Birley Wood) - Helen Walker -

Rating:

Just want to warn that I know we have come to not expect a lot from carvery chain pubs! But expect even less from this place since the previous manager left (cleaned it up and sorted it out). Now it is beyond poor standard again. Young staff whom are inexperienced, bar staff whom would suffer pain to smile. Cold food and inadequate portions (obviously trying to stretch the food prepped).

Its only plus was a young waitress whose name I think was Helena or Eleanor, through every request and complaint this young lady smiled and was pleasant. Her total effort all evening embarrassed the rest of the staff, she was very embarrassed when I asked for her name but in the society of today praise where praise is due. Pull your socks up!

La Luna (Banner Cross) - Harry Nixon -

Rating:

Went to La Luna for the first time on Wednesday. It was me and my partner's 3-year anniversary.

Food: Excellent

We had 3 courses, digestif and coffee. The homemade desserts were to die for. Tiramisu and white chocolate and fig tart. The sauces for the starters and mains tasted homemade as well. The mixed fish dishes were great. Nice big shrimps.

Service: Better than excellent.

The one guy who served us was attentive without being invasive. He was friendly and knowledgeable about specials and the food generally.

Value for money: less than £50 for 3 courses and after dinner drinks for two. Bargain.

Well worth a visit.

Thelma's (Hunters Bar) - Adam Whitworth -

Rating:

One of the best cafes in Sheffield! The food is absolutely fab, home cooked with real thought and care about details of the tastes. Lovely venue & staff. A great addition to Sharrow Vale.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - M Fisher -

Rating:

Absolutely horrendous! The restaurant itself is in a very poor state of repair and decor. However, the main issue we had was the restaurant manager himself.

Having finished our starter, main course and a relatively expensive bottle of red wine - we noticed that our carafe of water and glasses were full of black sediment. We brought this to the manager's attention and his response was a barrage of abuse and a level of protest that led my partner and I to believe he had something to hide. His aggression escalated to such an extent that we had to call the police, who suggested we contact trading standards. We have done so and will not be paying a return visit.

Give it a miss.

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Beverley Saxelby -

Rating:

Went to this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday night. It was very busy and all the tables were full. Luckily we had made a reservation.

Staff were very pleasant. Food was excellent, both the starter and main course. Neither of us could manage a dessert. Staff were a little slow to clear away dirty plates. All food was cooked to order and piping hot when it arrived at our table.

It is very smoky in the restaurant due to cooking been done in the restaurant without any suitable extraction, which is a shame, it does make your eyes run after a while.

All in all a very pleasant meal with good food. Will definitely give it another go.

La Taverna di Ferdinando (Greenhill) - Alice Jones -

Rating:

I can honestly say that this is possibly the worst restaurant in Sheffield.

The service was appalling, the staff were rude and we waited over an hour for our starters to arrive. When we complained about our wait the staff actually argued with us and told us it was because everything was cooked fresh.

When the main course arrived at the table they had forgotten one of our party's and they simply brushed it off as if it was OK... telling us it would be here soon. We complained that we didn't want to eat separately and because of this we decided not to eat the mains and leave.

The staff then got extremely aggressive - in fact the manager actually grabbed myself (a young girl) and pushed my dad, as we refused to pay for the mains that had finally arrived at the table, which we had not touched.

My advice would be to avoid this restaurant at all costs unless you like to be abused, have your food served to you cold and fancy a rubbish evening.

Fantastic Sheffield curry. You will find no better place on Ecclesall Road. Great staff, great service and great food. We love it that much we go every week. You won't be disappointed.

Meadow Farm (Ecclesfield) - Kath -

Rating:

Just returned from Meadow Farm after making the mistake of not looking at the carvery before ordering. It was awful. The vegetables were kept in bain maries and were a pile of mush. The mashed potato looked and had the texture of wallpaper paste. The stuffing balls were so salty they were inedible. And the gravy had no taste whatsoever.

I find it hard to comprehend how an eating establishment can manage to serve up food that doesn't taste of anything and not know how bad it is or doesn't care. I didn't go there expecting 5-star food but I didn't expect to be served up a plate of inedible, bland crap that even a dog would turn its nose up at.

I would suggest all the staff sit down and eat this stuff themselves and see how they like it!

Swan (Ridgeway) - Chris Taylor -

Rating:

After recently visiting the Swan I had to give it a 5-star review.

My wife had chicken and leak pie and I had minced beef and onion, and may I say the comment below is ridiculous. My wife said it was just the right balance of leak and chicken. Mine was to die for - full of flavour. And may I also say that the staff were incredible, with a smile on their face constantly and quick service.

Very well done and I shall be visiting again soon.
