Nonna's (Sharrow Vale) - Neil Monyard -

Rating:

I stopped there for lunch. The food was excellent, well presented and not overpriced. They were very busy and the service, although not uncaring, was rather disjointed and lackadaisical.

Definitely book and do not be in a rush. A pity the service does not quite match the food.

Everest (Heeley) - Abhishek -

Rating:

Arriving late in the evening after a long day at work, I was looking forward to a quick meal near my house. This is quite an upscale restaurant for a quick bite but the staff made sure I was well looked after, serving my meal very promptly and not making it a long-drawn affair one typically gets at a fine dining restaurant. The amuse-bouche was a delicious mini-papadum platter with a medley of different sauces.

My main was the chicken biryani, which was somewhat different from what I had expected (usually laden with a heavy portion of gravy) but Everest's was lighter but still very moist stewed chicken pieces and steaming basmati rice with a healthy side of raita. No wonder they received the awards they won!

Service was great. The wait staff, without any prompting came to help. They impressed me with how attentive they were and quality of service. If you need help with the menu, listen to the captain or head-waiter for recommendations.

Going next week again with family! Highly Recommended! - Abhishek!

Zara's (Crookes) - Mike Satur -

Rating:

Linda and I have been visiting Zara's for around 4 years after stumbling upon it by accident.

It has been an eye opener, with some of the tastiest chutneys and dishes that are available anywhere in South Yorkshire. The dishes are cooked with a excellent blend of spices without any one overpowering the palette. We particularly enjoy the side dishes and often order several of these and just one main dish, perfect for our tastes.

We are always made welcome by Shahbaz and his staff even when we haven't booked. If you haven't tried it yet then make it your next Indian as a priority... although I don't want it to become too popular, as I may not get in!

Swan (Ridgeway) - Teresa -

Rating:

We have been there several times in the past few years and never had a bad meal - the pies are especially good.

It's great that there is a section to take your well-behaved dogs! Loads of 2 for £10 meals all day everyday. It's a good half-way / end stop if you are doing any of the lovely country walks in the area. Sally and her team there are always very welcoming!

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Kelly -

Rating:

February 2013 - This was my first time at this restaurant and it was great from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and attentive.

The food was absolutely gorgeous, we had a starter and a main and the chicken melted in your mouth, it was beautiful and perfectly cooked.

At the end of the night we were all fat and happy (and a little bit tipsy), and we all agreed that it had been a fab night.

I would definitely go there again, it's the best restaurant I've eaten at for a while. Very impressed.

Mohul (Totley) - Mike Connelly -

Rating:

We had a large takeaway order from Mohul on New Year's Eve and I can honestly say it was some of the worst Indian food we've ever had.

I ordered butterfly prawns. At £4.95 for a starter, it was not the cheapest. However, I got a flattened lump of breadcrumb and batter, where it was a real struggle to find anything that resembled a prawn. Had I been in the restaurant it would have been sent back. As it was it ended up in the in bin. My lamb tikka madras was a slight improvement, but not a patch on Indian food I've eaten recently at Ambar and House of Spice restaurants on Ecclesall Road.

The rest of the people in my party were equally disappointed and we all agreed it was one of the worst Indian meals we had ever eaten.

Not recommended.

Akhtars (Killamarsh) - Chris Cooper -

Rating:

This really is a review of 2 halves. We used to eat here at least once a week and often had takeaways as well. Food excellent, service very attentive and we were always looked after, hence it was a regular spot for us.

They started doing a Thursday night promotion, were Cobra was free and it fell in line nicely with a birthday party so I took a party of 12 for the night. The posters were prominently displayed both on the door going in and also on the front window of the restaurant - great offer so why not promote it!

We had a great night again yet when the bill came they'd charged us for the Cobras. I pointed out that this was free on a Thursday night and hence shouldn't be on the bill. I was told that, as we had not asked for free Cobras at the start of the night, they were chargeable. (Just to point out no mention of this on the posters.) I obviously argued this and after 15 minutes of to-ing and fro-ing and my threat that they either removed them from the bill or I wasn't paying any of it (I should point out that a certain amount of intimidation was also attempted by the staff as well) it was removed from the bill. However, for a known regular customer (actually for any customer) this was wholly inappropriate and unsatisfactory and managed to sour what should have been a great night of celebration.

The manager wasn't there on the night and I did think there was a certain amount of opportunism being shown by the under manager on the night so I went back on a subsequent occasion (not to eat) to point his out to the manager and give him an opportunity to rectify the matter. Unfortunately he simply wasn't interested and no apology was even forthcoming so we've never been back since.

I've relayed this story to a number of people now and have been surprised just how many others this has happened to.

A real shame but great benefit for another local-ish restaurant who now benefit from our custom.

Indus (Attercliffe) - Vicky Knight -

Rating:

First time to the restaurant. Tuesday buffet night. When we arrived a member of staff showed us to our table, then took us over to the food to show us what was on offer. Looked very nice and clean. Poppadoms and pickle tray we're fetched straight over and starters & salad you just helped yourself. (Onion bhaji, fish, samosa tandoori chicken.)

Mains (rice, lamb dish, 2 chicken dishes, 2 vegetarian dishes) all food nice and hot. We were asked if we wanted naan bread etc...

Staff very helpful and friendly.

Looking forward to our next visit.

Cutlers Spice (Gleadless) - Claire Heald -

Rating:

Eating out for me is some what stressful, I have coeliac disease and find the places I go have no coeliac meals to offer. Cutlers I found to be very helpful in supporting me with my choices, even though I had to take my own nann bread they warmed it through. The manager even came over to discuss my condition and where he could purchase the breads.

I found the food to be very good, the portion size was just right, the place was well lit and the service was OK for the size of our group.

I am eating there again on the 15th December with a party of 22 an cannot wait.

Mamma Mia Pepe (Hillsborough) - Anne Hobson -

Rating:

Small, authentic, family restaurant with feel of being on holiday. Superb food (especially the slow cooked lamb), friendly service, open kitchen so you can watch the fresh pizzas being made, nice house wine. Would certainly recommend this little place. The special midweek menu is particularly good value at £9.99.
