Balti King (Broomhill) - Barry Tyerman -

Rating:

No trip to Sheffield for me is complete without a trip to the Balti King - a fabulous curry house with great food at a price that won't hurt your wallet, very friendly staff who are genuinely pleased to see you and can't do enough for you. I would recommend a visit!

Everest (Heeley) - Helen Bird -

Rating:

A group of us thought we should try out the Monday special "2-for-1", there were around 12 of us.

It was a very busy evening therefore the food was a little late. However, the taste was to our perfection. I was a little worried. However, from my family and friends all I received were compliments towards the tasty food. We enjoyed the hospitality, and the starters were my absolute favourite.

The manager himself approached us and apologised for the late service and I can not wait to be back next Monday for the delicious mixed kebabs!

Old Red Lion (Grenoside) - Matt Adamson -

Rating:

My girlfriend and I have eaten here several times, always found the food to be good and reasonably priced. There can be a bit of a wait for food but this is usually because it's busy.

Frankie & Benny's (Meadowhall Shopping Centre) - Caroline Burden -

Rating:

Bad experience at the Meadowhall restaurant, which we visited August bank holiday Monday.

It was understaffed and we waited almost 45 minutes between starter and main. Reason being the mains had sat on the pass for 25 minutes. We could see our order, but due to the lack of serving staff, no one brought it to us.

When we received the food it had dried out completely, was cold in the middle, and my child's wraps were solid. We sent the food back and then waited again for fresh, which was just OK.

Apology from the manager but nothing from the waiter serving us.

Won't be visiting again!

Marco's (Woodseats) - Sarah Bannister -

Rating:

Just had the most delicious meal ever. The sea bass was cooked just right and tasted as though it had been just caught. The tuna was superb. My partner had the Baileys Sundae and he spent the rest of the night still talking about it.

We will be back. The best Italian in Sheffield. It leaves Kito's standing by miles.

Mamma Mia Pepe (Hillsborough) - John Bothamley -

Rating:

Went to Mamma Mia Pepe last Wednesday. Kitchen staff were very friendly as usual, but sorry to say the very friendly waiter has still not returned. We were told he has gone to work in Penistone.

Now down to my complaint. The waitress was sweating cobs as she took your order. She was dripping over us. Her hair looked like she arrived on a Harley. We also found her abrupt.

Nice place spoilt by someone who comes to work unkempt. We won't be back.

Castle Inn (Bradway) - Victoria Hurst -

Rating:

The Castle Inn at Bradway, Sheffield, is under new management and has an extensive menu.

Fantastic value for money, they are offering a £6, £8, and £10 menus for two courses, home-cooked food with very generous portions. They are also offering a bottle of house wine for £9.

I will be making many return journeys!

Florentine (Ranmoor) - Pauline Brown -

Rating:

We had been to this place when it was the Fulwood Inn on many occasions (as it is in walking distance from where we live), including two large parties. It was usually very good, except on one occasion.

We went to Florentine in the first month of it opening for lunch (two battered cod and chips, one pizza) and it was truly bad. We didn't complain, thinking that it was maybe a problem with the newness of the restaurant. We found the staff to be very nice and helpful, though.

We went back last week (20th August 2015), and although we were a bit scared of making the same order, what we did order (sea bass) was very good, and although the seafood pasta was fine, it wasn't special. For afters we had deep-fried ice-cream, and that was fine, although I've tasted better: the ice cream was a bit lacking in vanilla taste and too cold and the breadcrumbs were slightly overdone, but really not a problem - we enjoyed it.

We thought that it was a really nice lunch and we are going again this week - may take courage and order the battered fish and chips and pizza!

Balti King (Broomhill) - Nitanshu Garg -

Rating:

Me and my friends go there every weekend. It's really very nice and serves Indian food with authentic Indian taste. I'll strongly recommend to try Paneer curries there. Moreover, if you are vegetarian, it's the right place for you, as you'll get so many vegetarian options.

Service and behaviour of staff is good. Quite cheap and affordable.

Peacock Inn (Owler Bar) - Ennis Keight -

Rating:

Called in around 5PM after a day in Derbyshire, didn't think it would be necessary to book at that time of day. We were told upon arrival that we could have a table but would need to vacate in 1hr 30mins. We said that was fine, as we were on our way home anyway. Drinks arrived - they were fine. For starters my husband ordered Bubble & Squeak with a poached egg on top. I ordered the Avocado Salad.

After about 30 minutes they arrived - the poached egg on my husband's dish was hard and my Avocado Salad comprised of a plate of leaves with some trace of avocado and mozzarella! My husband complained - the dishes were taken away by the manageress, who explained that she had a trainee chef on. The replacement starters arrived - the egg on my husband's Bubble & Squeak was on the un-cooked side but he didn't complain again. My Avocado Salad comprised of a very squashed piece of avocado, which was inedible, some leaves and olives.

Our main courses were Steak & Ale Pie and Gourmet Burger. The pie filling was gristly and tasteless, the burger roll was dry and looked pretty unappetising.

We weren't charged for our starters, but needless to say we will not be returning!

Koh-I-Noor (Handsworth) - Catherine White -

Rating:

Cannot fault food or service. Have always found that they will make every effort to please us. Won't go anywhere else, they even recognise my voice now when ordering take-away.

Forum (City Centre) - Barnaby Knowles -

Rating:

Having eaten here a few times before and enjoyed a couple of different burgers, I gave the pastrami sourdough toastie a try.

Priced at £7.75 I was expecting something special, as this is almost as costly as a burger and fries. Sadly this was not the case. It was tiny and the pastrami was full of fat. I'd paid an extra £1.25 for a side order of fries, otherwise I would have been left feeling hungry as well as ripped-off.

Decent selection of drinks, though.

Gigi's Cucina (Nether Green) - Heather -

Rating:

Place very stuffy, pizza rather tasteless, and middle-aged waiter wouldn't leave us alone, which was most off-putting! Not sure we want to go back - not recommended! And over-priced, especially wine.

Viva Tequila (Gleadless) - Julie Sedgwick -

Rating:

Went on a Saturday evening for my 63rd birthday, just four of us. As soon as we entered the atmosphere was great, food was great, music was great. We really enjoyed it. It was our first visit but won't be our last. A good mix of ages so I didn't feel out of it.

Thanks Viva Tequila a birthday to remember.

Fairways Inn (Birley Wood) - Pam Gray -

Rating:

Went for a carvery with my family and friends for my 50th and my granddaughter's birthday. Had a lovely meal, which was made even more special when our cake was fetched by Donna and Lewis, all lit up. It was lovely, they even gave us the plates and a knife.

Would just like to say thank you for being so lovely. Lewis served us at the bar with a smile and Donna ran about after us, it was a brilliant evening.

Mirpuri Dhera (Darnall) - Abby -

Rating:

Excellent service. Can get a little smoky inside when the barbecue is cooking away. But after trying other Indian buffets, I find myself going back due to their outstanding quality dishes that are very tasty.

Only gave 4 stars due to it being a bit smoky and some dishes occasionally running low and not being filled up soon enough. But that's not going to stop me going tonight. Yummy yum here I come...
