Mamma Mia Pepe (Hillsborough) - Kirsty B -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Very small, family run restaurant. The food is exceptional. I have visited a few times now and enjoyed it every time. Choice of food is excellent and price is reasonable, would highly recommend.

Mama's & Leonie's (City Centre) - Kelly -

I was not impressed. My burger was so-so. My husband had calzone & wasn't happy with it. If you want good Italian visit E'Lupo in Rotherham.

Vito's (Walkley) - Allessandro -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

We have been to Vito's Italian Restaurant in July 2006 in Walkley. The food is excellent by me being Italian and fussy, finally I have found a restaurant that is really authentic Italian.

Also I found an excellent and prestige wine list which start from £17 to over £500 a bottle and I was very, very impressed to have found a lot of excellent wines from Italy. We settled for a super bottle of Ornellia for £220 and it was worth every penny. If you want to go for cheap wine, go for the house red or white for £11.90 a litre.

And also I found out that he is in partnership with his sister at another restaurant on Ecclesall Road called Maranello's Italian Restaurant and we have also been there and the menu and wine list is exactly the same so I recommend both these authentic Italian restaurants if you enjoy real Italian food.

I would like to congratulate Vito and Lucia for their hard work and passion for cooking. When it comes to food and wine Vito knows what he's talking about and I hope the other Italians follow in his step.

Dam House (Crookesmoor) - Carol -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Initially hard to find as it's along a cobbled, one-way side street and only signposted once you are there.

There was no atmosphere, possibly due to lack of customers, but the staff were nice. The food was expensive, i.e. just over £9 for a steak sandwich, side salad and J2O juice. I ordered a very well done steak, which came rare and got returned. What I found in my side salad (!!!!) sent me returning the salad back faster than the speed of light and cancelling the sandwich altogether!!! I got a refund and the offer of a free drink for my friend and me.

My friend paid £5.50 for a small wrap that was only 1/2 filled with cream cheese, salmon and mackerel.

There is some parking, but I doubt that there would be enough for the evening clientele. There is a patio and view over the boating lake.

Butlers Balti House (City Centre) - Julie -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I have never tasted such fresh food before. Not probably, but definitely the best place in Sheffield. Well modernised and air conditioned as well.

Shapla (City Centre) - Claire -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I can honestly say that I have eaten some of the best Indian food at Shapla, the service is impeccable and the food, everything you could expect and more. I visit the restaurant frequently and will continue to do so!

The extensive menu is impressive and should you not find what you are looking for - the chef will be more than happy to make it for you.

The atmosphere is fantastic - the music, lighting and setting all make for the finest dining experience.

Well done to the staff and no doubt I will be seeing them all again in the near future.

Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - Ian Whincup -

Rating:

Having heard / read only good things about this place, myself and the future wife decided to give it a go. We both love dining out, trying out new places, and so we booked a table for two on Saturday night at 7PM.

From the moment we got there, the staff were very polite and attentive, and even at this early hour, the place filled up pretty quick. We got a nice table by the door and so ordered a drink and nibbled on the olives, which were so tasty. They were prepared with orange and lemon zest and garlic. Mmmmm.

And so to the meal... After discussing the menu with the waiter, who was very knowledgeable about all the dishes we asked, I decided on a starter of scallops with turbot for mains. My partner went for monkfish kebabs to start and the halibut for main. Well, the kebabs were good, very good in fact, but the scallops were absolutely sensational. They were cooked to perfection and were so sweet and juicy, they literally disintegrated in my mouth. They were served with a crisp salad and balsamic dressing. So good.

For the mains, my partner went for halibut. Once again, very good indeed. However for the second time that night my course blew hers out of the water.

You MUST MUST MUST try the turbot. It was an absolute taste sensation. A meaty white fillet of the tastiest fish, served on mashed potatoes with the most amazing creamy saffron sauce. (My mouth is watering as I type this.)

This was washed down with a very reasonable bottle of house red.

TEN OUT OF TEN. In summary, do your taste buds a favour and book a table ASAP.

ASK Italian (City Centre) - S Gould -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

On the 2nd night of our stay we plumped for Ask Pizza & Pasta. We had eaten at La Gondola the night before which was quite good.

In short, service was slow, but the food was OK. What topped it off was when we left a tip within the cheque we used to pay for the meal. The Waitress came and told us that if we were going to dine there again, do not put the tip on the cheque, make it out for the amount on the bill.

So, guess what? We will not be eating there again and in truth it spoilt the night!

El Paso (City Centre) - Katie Dunn -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

After reading the good reviews on this page I booked my hen night for 30 of us. I can say that I had a brilliant time and that the food and service were exceptional. We continued the party in the upstairs function room and danced salsa. They even put some Abba on for us. Service was very friendly and always with a smile.

Cubana (City Centre) - Gavin -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I went here for a friend's birthday, the initial welcome is OK but a little rushed (in fact I felt loomed over the whole time I was eating).

The food, well I won't spend long describing this. Too much garlic to disguise the fact it was bland and over expensive. The wrong things were delivered to our table. The bill was wrong and the waitresses were rude. There was absolutely no table service for dinks once you are eating, and the food took forever to come.

The worst eating experience of my life.

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Julie -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

The worst Italian we have ever had. The pizzas were far too thick, the volcano pizza contained ordinary green peppers, where was the fire? The only person who would have been impressed with the calzone would be Popeye, as it had so much spinach in the filling. The spare rib starter was fatty and covered in far too much sauce. The most tasteless experience I have ever encountered. We live locally but will venture afar in future to avoid it.

Noodle Inn (Highfield) - Shirley Chapman -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Excellent and fast service. Tasty and freshly prepared Chinese food. Usually full of Chinese eaters - always a good sign! Large portions... Definitely worth a visit if you're in need of fast sustenance!

Rowsha (Walkley) - Simon -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I visited Rowsha in Walkley this week and was very impressed.

The food is outstanding. I had a lamb dish, which was delicious, and my girlfriend, a vegetarian, raved about her stuffed pepper.

The service is good and the staff are very friendly. It is a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit... Highly recommended.

Hui Wei (City Centre) - Elizabeth Clark -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Hui Wei has a lovely atmosphere with mood-lighting and gentle jazz music, and attentive service. The food was amazing - the chicken pieces melted in my mouth - and it's quite reasonably priced if you go for the set menus. Everything tasted fresh and authentic, a far cry from fatty, oily, takeaway Chinese food and all-you-can-eat buffets.

Las Iguanas (City Centre) - Peter -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Great decor and ambiance, the food is good if not great - definitely try the steak, it is wonderful! The cocktails are a bit expensive as well, as are drinks in general (to make it cheaper, try the 2 courses for £7 lunch/early evening). Nonetheless a cool place to have a drink or a bite to eat.

Vito's (Walkley) - Lauren Taylor -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I first visited Vito's Italian Restaurant with my partner to celebrate Valentines day. To be honest, I had never even noticed it before although I drive past nearly every day! We decided to go as friends had recommended it to us!

The food was absolutely delicious. For my main I had lamb, which simply fell off the bone. It was served with a selection of vegetables and potatoes. My partner had Seabass, which he said was fantastic! Vito's is also very well-know for its gorgeous selection of wines from all over the world! We settled for a lovely bottle of Rioja, which went down fantastically with my lamb!

The whole visit was wonderful. The staff and atmosphere made it a very romantic evening and one that we both would not forget.

Since our first visit, we have been back three times and every time the food has been great! I would certainly recommend Vito's.

Chiquito (Attercliffe) - Leann -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Great food and atmosphere. All the staff are really friendly, and because we went for a leaving party they put balloons all around the table for us. The drinks were cheap, too, and the food portions were large and I would say value for money.

If you were wanting a taste of Mexico I'd say don't book a flight, go to Chiquito!

Kurdistan (Burngreave) - Nima -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

There's a nice setting and a friendly staff serving Persian/Iranian and Kurdish food. The quality of food can be better, or at least I have tried better Persian/Iranian food before but still quite good for those who're not familiar with Persian cuisines. Try to test the vegetarian menu as well.

Zing Vaa (City Centre) - David Redden -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Location is a bit hidden but once you get down there, you will be amazed how spacious the restaurant is. Very good for private functions. The food is excellent, and you MUST TRY Dim Sum on Sundays. Dim Sum is like Tapas but in a Chinese version. Absolutely packed with Chinese people on Sunday lunchtime so you may have to reserve a table if you wish to try out the famous Dim Sum.

Mangla (Burngreave) - Glyn Barker -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Top Indian, one of the best I've been to, and believe me I've been to quite a few. Mangla restaurant & takeaway is very friendly and gives A1 service.
