Summer House (Dore) - Peter Proctor -

Rating:

We had my wife's 60th birthday for 8 of us I don't think I could have found a better restaurant for a small family gathering. The food was very good. The service could not have been better. The cocktails were brilliant. I recommend the espresso Martini - coffee at its finest.

Fairways Inn (Birley Wood) - Kathleen Nuttall -

Rating:

We go for a carvery every week. But on the last visit, Tuesday 19/01/2016, admittedly we were early, arrived at 4:15PM and all the food was covered as if no one had been since lunchtime. And the food was lukewarm. All the veg wasn't hot. I'm thinking if I was a food inspector they would have problems, but fortunately I'mm not one to complain, although I did tell the bar staff.

Cavendish (City Centre) - Eleanor Childs -

Rating:

Went for tea tonight and the food was amazing, lovely to see a place outside of Middlesbrough doing a parmo!

Unfortunately the only reason I gave the place 4/5 stars rather than 5/5 is to point out that the website are wrong and the 2 for £6.50 offer and beer and a burger offer have not been available for around 5 years according to the bar staff.

However, I would still eat here any day because of how lovely the staff are, the good quality of the food and the cheap drinks!

Massive fan.

Bilals (Eckington) - Julie Marshall -

Rating:

Visited Bill's on Saturday 2nd January. Was a nice place. Staff lovely, too. The food is good, too. Though a bit mean with the chips (fries).

The shock was the 10% service charge added to the bill. For this reason alone I will not be visiting again. I always leave a tip for good service but after paying an extra 10% not this time.

Lokanta (Broomhill) - Jessica Zeun -

Rating:

Fantastic, upmarket Turkish food. Best way to do it is choose lots of options from the meze and share with friends.

As a vegetarian I really love this restaurant, as it offers just as many veggie options as meat ones, such a nice change from the usual two or three token offerings to pick from.

Lovely fresh food, nice atmosphere, and Turkish wine, too.

Walkley Cottage Inn (Walkley) - Kim Sears -

Rating:

This afternoon I visited the Walkley Cottage Inn on Bole Hill Road. I went to the bar and the man behind it saw and ignored me. I waved and smiled until he came over, and asked for water. He replied by saying 'What?' this happened 3 times until he finally went and came back demanding a pound. I told him it was illegal to charge for tap water and he reluctantly gave it to me.

I went outside and realised it was out of order, so went back and complained to another member of staff. The man came over so I explained how disappointed I was with his antisocial behaviour and managed to get an apology.

I went out again and he followed me and said I wasn't welcome at the pub and tried to take my drink. It turned out he was the boss.

I went in again and complained to someone else, not willing to be bullied, but I received no help. I mentioned she shouldn't put up with this from her boss but she just looked scared. I left.

I suggest if you want to support good, local establishments, you do not go to this pub.

Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - John Dunkley -

Rating:

Just had a really excellent meal. The service was very good, and only the starter less than exciting.

My turbot was beautifully cooked - delicate flavour and lovely texture, with a sauce that complimented it perfectly.

My sweet, baklava with Greek yoghurt and honey, was an inspired combination. The slight tartness of the yoghurt offsetting the sweetness of the baklava and honey. The baklava seemed very heavy, but tasted delicious, with lots of nutty flavour.

I had very good reports from all the other 4 diners, with the poached pears coming in for special mention.

All in all, not cheap, but excellent value for money. While we did not have to wait very long, or so it seemed, to be served, it was a delightfully unhurried dining experience and we were the last to leave.

Prince of Wales (Banner Cross) - Rachel Stainrod -

Rating:

Sorry to say but totally disappointed with the Christmas lunch I had this afternoon.

Firstly the pre-booked table was set for the wrong number and we had to wait for another table to be set. There was nothing whatsoever to suggest it was a Christmas lunch, not even a cracker to pull. It could have been a meal held on any day of the year!

One order was late, the portions for the starters and mains were poor. Not much nosh for a lot of dosh! The food was pleasant but not value for money.

The bill came with the deposit already paid included on the receipt and there was a service charge on there for about ten percent of the bill. We had to point this out and ask if the service charge was optional. Some people would probably not have noticed these and paid the price on the receipt! A little sneaky, that! The service wasn't bad but there was no real hospitality.

Such as shame, the decor out-does the dining!

Akhtars (Killamarsh) - David Jenkins -

Rating:

Just visited Akhtars with some friends of mine for a Christmas meetup, for what should have been a good night to remember.

Anyway let me start by saying me and my friends where trying to find a Indian to go and visit for a meal and drinks and decided on going to Akhtars due to the advertised Thursday night promotion titled "free cobra on Thursdays all night".

So anyway we arrived and from the outside it looked a nice restaurant and seemed nice and clean. Once we walked in me and my friend got asked if we would like a Cobra right away, which we both said "yes please" to, and got handed a big bottle of Cobra each, which we both were impressed with how quick they were to see to our needs.

We then met the rest of our friends, then sat down at a table. We then decided what we was going to eat, being sat less than 5 minutes a waiter came across and asked if we would like some more Cobras, which everyone at the table said yes.

Not long later we all ordered our meals. A little later the starters came out (I personally did not have one) but everyone who did have a starter said they were decent. About 30-40 minutes later after 2-3 more Cobras for most people at the table, the mains then came out. I had a chicken madras/pilau rice/chips and a garlic naan, which I thought all tasted really nice and was cooked to a very good standard. The madras was a little hot but that was expected, of course.

Upon finishing the meal we had a few more Cobras and sat and chatted for a while amongst ourselves. Anyhow a while later the bill came for the food, as expected, followed by a drinks bill... Yes a drinks bill on "free cobra Thursdays", which was extortionate to say the least.

We then called the waiter over to explain the error, to which he responded by telling us we did not qualify for "free cobra Thursdays", as we were all drinking big bottles of Cobra, not the small ones and we all didn't order a starter and a main. I was stunned. We had all been lured in, had Cobras chucked at us, which we were all under the assumption they were free, since they had advertisements everywhere saying it was "free Cobra Thursday".

After all talking we just decided to pay, as we didn't want it to ruin our night, which I must add we all had a good night.

Hope this stops anyone else from getting conned!

Koh-I-Noor (Handsworth) - Chris Evans -

Rating:

What an Indian. I travel to India quite frequently and love curries.

I have to say the food here is excellent and I've got to say it's probably one of the best meals I've had in Sheffield.

The delivery service was spot on and what a polite driver. So keep it up guys and hope to see the same driver with the Audi A4 again.

Zeenat (Attercliffe) - Aathira Majnu -

Rating:

Pathetic attitude, long waiting time, half orders missed and does not even have the courtesy to apologise. Will never order ever again.

Marco's (Woodseats) - Michelle Bromley -

Rating:

I would just like to say I have visited Marco's quite regularly and I've never, ever been disappointed with anything that I have eaten there. The staff are friendly and you can have a really good laugh with all of them.

Proove (Broomhill) - Edward Nauen -

Rating:

Superb. Definitely the best pizza I have ever eaten - high quality ingredients (they even use San Marzano tomatoes), great technique, and a real wood-fired oven all adds up to perfection.

Reasonably priced and child-friendly too - I also appreciated the way the child menu didn't baby the kids, giving them rocket with their starter, for example.

The antipasti was also special, with beautiful fennel-scented salami and an incredibly creamy mozzarella being the highlights for me.

Finally, the gelato was incredible. There was a spiced pumpkin gelato on as a special, which was an absolute delight, unusual and delicious.

Five stars without a doubt. A very welcome new addition to the local scene.

Cow And Calf (Grenoside) - Gilly -

Rating:

The only redeeming factor about this pub is that the beer is cheap, as it is a Sam Smith's pub.

The staff are not pleasant at all, especially towards children, who are supposedly welcome until 7:00 in the evening. I personally saw a small family ostracised. Two small boys dropped some crisps on the floor, and their mother was down on her knees with the dustpan and brush cleaning up. They spilt a small lemonade, and their mother cleaned up.

Then an old patron friend of mine gave them some tissue and said if they cleaned the windows the landlord would give them something nice. What did they get? The landlady reprimanded them and said she would have to clean them now! The landlord then approached the family and publicly said that "this is not a creche" and that the children were out of control!

Nobody around me had complained, in fact we thought the children were just acting like children, not particularly naughty, just being kids. The landlord proceeded to approach the family a further two times to tell them how bad their kids were, until they left. I would be surprised if they ever returned after being treated so unfairly.
