Zagato Does Live Jazz


Diners at one of South Yorkshire's leading hotels have been singing the praises of a number of jazz musicians who have been providing musical accompaniment to their dining experience.

The Zagato restaurant, part of the Aston Rooms at Aston Hall Hotel and Restaurant, introduced a selection of jazz performers that made Friday nights go with a swing three months ago and the jazz night is now been made a weekly event.

The performers, who between them serve up their jazz with lashings of critical acclaim, infuse their Friday night soundtrack from the bar area while diners enjoy the delights of the menu in the adjoining restaurant.

Jez Matthews, who is co-ordinating the Friday night performers and also half of double-act JezandFry, said: "It's a wonderfully elegant scene. We are very fortunate to have critically acclaimed and highly sought-after acts performing on Friday nights and it creates a beautiful atmosphere, terrifically ambient to compliment the venue."

Stephen White, General Manager at Aston Hall, added: "Friday nights at the Zagato Restaurant has been a great success since we introduced the musicians a couple of months ago.

"We wanted to provide our guests with a musical entree that lasts the whole night and is very much part of their overall dining experience and that seems to have worked really well."

The latest line-up includes Seth Bennett Trio (6th April) Rosie Brown Duo (13th April, 4th May), Sally Doherty Duo (20th April) Wendy Kirkland (27th April, 22nd June) Jez & Fry (11th May, 15th June) Lounge Lizards (18th May, 1st June) Martin O'Kane Duo (25th May) Nicola Farnon (8th June).

The restaurant is open for lunch Monday to Friday 12-2PM and for Sunday lunch 12-5PM and for evening meals Monday to Saturday 7PM - 9:30PM.

A Taste of New Zealand at Aston Hall

One of the region's leading hotels is set to host an exclusive dining experience with a flavour of the antipodes.

Aston Hall Hotel and Restaurant is tempting diners' taste buds with an evening celebrating the culinary delights of New Zealand.

The 'Taste of New Zealand Dinner' is taking place at the Hotel on Thursday 22nd March at 7pm and costs £45 per person. New Zealand is a country rich in culture and steeped in history and is renowned for its culinary delights.

Aston's award winning team of chefs have created a gourmet four-course menu, which will be accompanied course by course with a selection of New Zealand finest wines, selected by House of Townsend.

The menu includes: smoked duck salad partnered with a Waipara Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2006, tuna carpaccio accompanied by Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2006, slow braised shoulder of lamb complemented with Hawkes Bay Merlot 2004 and for dessert manuka honey roasted pineapple with Waipara Hills Gewurztraminer 2006.

The evening will be set in the relaxing surroundings of Zagato, Aston Hall's restaurant with Chef James Farrow and wine experts on hand to talk through the dishes and wines.
