Sheffield Restaurants News - November 2009

Walnut Club Can Open Later

After being twice denied permission to extend its opening hours, Walnut Club Champagne Bar & Grill on Ecclesall Road, Hunters Bar has been allowed to open later by Sheffield City Council.

The restaurant and bar can now open until 12:30AM on a 6-month trial basis, despite planning officers recommending that the application be denied. Owner Richard Mills claimed that the recession may force him to close the venue if the additional opening hours were not approved.

Balti King Has Licence Reviewed

Sheffield City Council is to review the licence of Balti King restaurant and takeaway, on Fulwood Road, Broomhill, after Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board raised concerns about the establishment.

The board claims that management failed to prevent underage drinking at the premises and display the "expected level of competence" to protect children.

The application will be discussed by the licensing board on 26th November.
