Hospitality Awards Ahow Sheffield’s Brightest

Two of Sheffield's brightest stars in hospitality have been shortlisted for industry awards.

The Copthorne Hotel Sheffield's restaurant and bar manager Anne Adolph is in the running for the "Shooting Star" award in the Hospitality Sheffield Awards, and night porter Stephen Markham is up for the "Our Unsung Hero" award.

New Zealand born Anne, 26, who now lives in Heeley, joined the Millennium Copthorne Hotel Group on a graduate scheme in six years ago. She helped to launch Sheffield's 18Fifty5 restaurant in January 2009. The restaurant was awarded its first AA Rosette within months of opening and Anne has led the eatery to win the Eat Sheffield's Best Modern European Restaurant of the Year award in September 2009 and the Westside Best Newcomer Restaurant of the Year award in June 2010.

Stephen, 51, from Crookes, joined the hotel in 2008 after leaving the Armed Forces bringing a much required discipline to the workplace. The Copthorne nominated him for constantly going above and beyond the call of duty.

Orla Watt, general manager at the Copthorne Hotel, Sheffield, said: "I'm thrilled the work of two of our staff has been recognised from outside the organisation. The whole team works extremely hard to maintain high standards and I'm incredibly proud of them.

"Under Anne's guidance the restaurant and bar have achieved outstanding recognition for customer service and brings repeat trade from local and corporate customers.

"Stephen works quietly and confidently as part of an unseen team, hard at work while the rest of the hotel sleeps, positively managing issues including security which is paramount for both guests and staff alike."

The Hospitality Sheffield Award winners will be announced on Thursday September 30.

Orla Makes Forward Ladies Shortlist

The woman behind the success of one of Sheffield's top hotels has been shortlisted for a Business Woman of the Year award.

Orla Watt, general manager of The Copthorne Hotel, Sheffield is in the running for next month's Forward Ladies Corporate Business Woman award, which celebrates the successes of women across the north in business.

Orla moved from The Copthorne Hotel, Cardiff to set up the boutique style hotel and since opening in 2009 it has been ranked number one for customer satisfaction in the Millennium and Copthorne group throughout Europe and also number one on Trip Advisor out of the 56 hotels that it lists for Sheffield.

Last year the hotel achieved an AA merit of 79 per cent and one AA rosette for its 18Fifty5 restaurant. The hotel has been placed joint first with the Millennium and Copthorne Group's flagship hotel for the whole of Europe.

Orla said: "I'm delighted that my hard work for The Copthorne has been recognised in Yorkshire. I believe our hotels are some of the best in Europe, while still trading at reasonable prices. This means we are popular with business and leisure customers both locally and for visitors to Sheffield. I have kept this tradition with the Copthorne's award-winning 18Fifty5 restaurant and now we have a loyal following who are able to taste delicious, innovative food made with local, seasonal produce.

"I very much enjoy working in Sheffield and have made some great friends through the different industry organisations I am part of."

Orla is currently on the executive board of hospitality Sheffield, a member of the Forward Ladies, Business Network Sheffield and also participates in the City Centre Management Group. In addition she has secured partnerships with Yorkshire South, Sheffield International Venues and Deliciously Yorkshire.

The awards ceremony will take place on September 24 at The Met Hotel, Leeds.

Forward Ladies started in 2000 as a small networking group of professionals. Since the organisation has grown to have a database of 12,000 women in business across the north of England from Hull to Liverpool.
