New Look Waggon & Horses Set to Open on 8th April

The new owners of a Sheffield public house think they've cooked up the
perfect recipe to tempt customers back into the building.

Abbeydale Road South's Waggon & Horses spent much of the past year in darkness as falling trade caused widespread speculation over its future. Now Manchester-based Pesto Restaurants are set to reopen the venue as an Italian restaurant whilst retaining it as functioning pub with bar.

The new-look Waggon & Horses is set to reopen on Monday, 8th April.

The joint £350,000 investment has transformed the building, which was suffering from years of under-investment and created 30 new jobs.

Many traditional public houses have suffered the double-whammy of recession coupled with increased competition from supermarkets selling cheap alcohol; Pesto believe their mix of family-friendly, affordable dining in a pub setting will be a hit with the Sheffield market.

They are also set to introduce the city to a brand new Italian dining concept - 'piattini' - which simply translates to "small plate".

Pesto Director Sara Edwards said: "We've been opening restaurants throughout the recession and business is thriving.

"We believe Pesto has what it takes to turn the Waggon & Horses into a viable business and make it a popular cornerstone of the Millhouses community."

The Waggon & Horses will be the ninth Pesto restaurant to open in the country; the first was unveiled in Manchester in 2006.

April Update From La Mama Restaurant

April update from La Mama restaurant on Abbeydale Road:

Every Monday evening throughout April we are offering 2 for 1 on selective drinks including beer, house wines and soft drinks. Also you can buy 1 cocktail and get the second half price - perfect opportunity to try our speciality cocktail Pisco Sour.

Musiquita en Vivo, our regular live music night returns Saturday 13th April. This evening we are pleased to welcome another new performer to La Mama. Chris Goodwin - double bassist - has been a regular on the Sheffield jazz scene for a number of years playing alongside pianist Ralph Salt. Having played mostly instrumental music from bebop to bossa nova, Chris recently decided to start a new musical project with guest vocals, using material from the great American song book. Rob Coyne tonight's guest vocalist draws inspiration from the iconic Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack.

Expect to hear driving improvisation during the up tempo numbers and lush harmony to accompany the band's slower ballads - modern jazz interpretations of great compositions by the likes of Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Music from 7PM, please phone ahead to reserve a table.

Regular offers include "Tapas Happy Hour" - 4 Tapas for £12 Monday all night and Tuesday to Thursday 6PM - 7:30PM. Children eat for free every Saturday between 3PM and 7PM. Conditions apply.

Pizza Hut Restaurant Added

We have added a complete listing for Pizza Hut on High Street in Sheffield city centre.
