Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - Lauren Barker -

Rating:

I went to the Mediterranean twice in December and on both occasions the food was excellent and the atmosphere great.

I used to go to this restaurant a lot but over the years it became a little 'tired'. However, it has had a fantastic makeover, new staff and a new lease of life. The food, without doubt, is better, both in terms of taste, simplicity and presentation. And it was so good to see the return of old customers as well as new.

A great place to 'dine' if you want something a little up market - but not at all stuffy.

Will be back soon!

Ruddy Duck at Wortley Hall (Wortley) - Ivy -

Rating:

Extremely good value for money... food was not only very well presented but cooked to perfection. Staff very helpful and appeared to be well informed of the menu/wines.

Small restaurant but I always believe that to be better, then you know your food is not mass produced. If you haven't been give it a try you might just love it. I'm booked on a walk and dine this year and looking forward to it!

Sette Colli (Hillsborough) - Sallie Boulby -

Rating:

Both my husband and I have been going here for years. The staff are welcoming, and the atmosphere friendly and relaxed.

Great menu, my husband says their mussels are to die for and he loves spicy food. I on the other hand prefer my food quite tame so tend to opt for penne pollo or crespelle de casa... yum. Not had it myself but the calzone looks huge. Our kids are welcomed too and love it.

We have also tried their other restaurant, Paulo's, in Dinnington. Same menu same great night.

Bay of Bengal (Gleadless) - Audrey Foster -

Rating:

Looking forward to our special New Years Eve meal at Bay of Bengal.

Been 3 times now, this will be our 4th. Always friendly staff, never overbearing. Food always top class, plentiful dishes, full of flavour no matter what we eat (and we have a lot of Indian meals).

Happy 2012 Bay of Bengal!

A birthday party I went to today. The food was beautiful but the workers were rude, they kept walking in while girls were dancing when we clearly told them we didn't want them to. They were drunk & were shouting! Three men waiters thought it would be funny to bang on the windows and run. This whole thing ended up in a fight & it was all just too much.

In my opinion I hated the place, the disrespectful, drunk, lying waiters.

I also suggest you eat at another Indian restaurant, this one is not worth anything at all, I am absolutely disgusted in their behaviour!

Ye Olde Mustard Pot (Midhopestones) - Steve W -

Rating:

Went in November 2011. It had changed hands again in October 2011. We have been here before and had very pleasant experiences. We had invited another four people as our guests on the strength of it. Oh dear... service.

While the waitress was very pleasant, she was struggling a little. When the person, who I guess is the owner, came out to help it turned Fawlty-esque.

We were kept waiting around 30 minutes between courses and asked if we'd had our sweet yet, while still waiting for the main course! When the food did come it was generally well cooked, although having ordered game pie (advertised as coming with vegetables) it came only with a few "chunky chips". When I asked where the veg was I was told "The chef says the pie has veg in it". When I pointed out their own blackboard I was grudgingly given some peas.

There were other little annoyances including having to get up and go to the bar for our drinks (we were in the restaurant not the bar).

I hope these are just teething troubles, I'll give it another month or two before giving them a last chance.

Not really good enough.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Paul, Joanne & Emma -

Rating:

I visit this restaurant on a fortnightly basis with family, as it is the most abundant Chinese I have been to. Its situation in the Fulwood area is a great first impression and it is set in its own grounds, which makes you feel grand and superior! It really has an oriental feel to it, inside and out!

As you enter your host will more than likely be Tazmin the owner, who provides a great rapport with you and treats you like an old friend, he is great. The food... well, the beautiful smells, the sizzling sounds and the exciting colourful dishes that are served on your table is fantastic! They can adjust dishes to suit your dietary needs.

I can promise that you will want to return and never want to visit another Chinese restaurant again apart from this one!

Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - Christina Harrison -

Rating:

We visited the Mediterranean this Friday just gone and I have to say we were all very impressed.

The service was excellent and the food was to die for. I'd heard good reviews and walked past often enough so we decided to try it - I'm very glad we did.

I'll definitely be returning as will my guests. I highly recommend trying out this restaurant if you are in need of a good (and not stupidly expensive) meal out.

Harley Hotel (City Centre) - Becky Balushi -

Rating:

The burgers are really lovely, loads of toppings and so many good combinations! Best burger I've had in Sheffield!

I've only given them 4 stars because the 3 times I've eaten there its been pretty dead, and atmosphere is important.

Rating:

The food here is absolutely delicious - the best Chinese I've eaten in the country! Definitely a cut above the London Road scene and not over-priced in my mind.

The welcome is friendly and the atmosphere made special by a generous, amusing host.

The restaurant building is very impressive and the grounds lovely.

Highly recommended for a special occasion or just a fantastic meal. Enjoy!

Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - George Dun -

Rating:

I visited the restaurant on Saturday evening with a table of 4. I was very disappointed, the starters were very poor. My guest had sea bass, which was still raw, my wife had zarzuela, which was too watery. The vegetables were also very cold and mashed, which seemed like left overs from previous customers.

I have visiting the restaurant for many years and it doesn't feel like it used to be after it has changed hands. I don't recommend it. Very poor - 1/5.

Rowsha (Walkley) - Richard Stone -

Rating:

Went on 10/12/2011 in party of 15, pre-booked for 7:30PM.

The first few starters arrived at around 9PM, mains around 9:30PM - 9:45PM. Had to send some food back, as it was cold and it appeared to be being delivered from the kebab shop down the road. Later sighting of the man behind the counter in said shop confirmed this!

We finally left at around 10:45PM, having to wait again for deserts. The restaurant was freezing cold only possessing an oil-fired radiator on wheels, which wasn't switched on.

All in all a dreadfully overpriced rip-off. Have been before and it was OK, so avoid party bookings at all costs, they can't handle it.

7 Spices Balti (City Centre) - Amanda -

Rating:

Came for a birthday. Waited an hour for table, which wasn't really a problem because we all wanted to sit together. We had poppadoms for starters followed by a mixed starter.

Then when an hour later we were waiting for mains they all came slap dash. Curry arrived then we waited 10 minutes for rice. By that time the curry was cold! My boyfriend was still waiting for his - they'd forgot the tandoori chicken - then when it arrived 15 minutes later it was raw!

This is the worst place I have been. The staff were so unhelpful and couldn't be bothered at all. Never again and I will be telling all I know how bad the food and service is.

Shame on you all.

Casanova Pizzeria Ristorante (Crookes) - Roland Steel -

Rating:

Having visited this restaurant in person to book a meal for 14 people I have had simply the worst experience with an owner/manager that I have ever had.

Initially he stated he would only take a booking for 5PM on a Saturday for that number, then he said we would need to sit at 4 different tables, as he wouldn't sort a larger table and we would need to be out by 7PM. Then when he realised that I wasn't happy with his "I don't want your business" offer, he stated that he would ensure we were at different corners of his restaurant.

Quite frankly the rudest and most arrogant restaurateur I have ever met. I would not book at this restaurant on principle now, regardless of the quality of his food.

Silversmiths (City Centre) - Lyndsey Stokes -

Rating:

They wouldn't let us eat our celebration cake that we took down, as we presumed it wouldn't be a problem and was promptly told (before we had even sat down) they don't allow cakes, as they want you to buy a pudding from them.

Then when we had several conversations with the assistant manager, manager and then owner who was summoned down (I think he was at home) a little drastic. He proceeded to tell us it was because his insurance didn't cover us to eat brought in cake and if we ate it and got food poisoning we could sue him, which I have to say is very, very extreme.

They also need to make sure all the staff know the same reasons as the different excuses just made us even more suspicious of them. We suggested they put this on their website.

Didn't spoil the evening but our party of 10 definitely won't go again.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Steven -

Rating:

Looked good from outside, very professional. Then we walked inside... it looked like an ordinary pub with China paintings on the wall, very poor effort.

The food was the worst and the most over priced I have had in Sheffield. I had spring rolls costing £4 and I got two small pieces. The filling was supposed to be mixed vegetables, it only had in it mung beans.

I had chicken satay costing £9 and there were 3 pieces of chicken tossed with onions, peppers and drenched in oil. No sign of peanut sauce.

We also had egg fried rice and chicken and sweet corn soup. All were tasteless.

If you want bland, over priced food then come to this place.

Balti King (Broomhill) - John Brown -

Rating:

I had my first Balti King meal this Saturday and must say it was the most sublime Indian, if not overall restaurant experience I have had in a very long time.

We had not booked and were rather worried by how busy the restaurant appeared when we entered. Nonetheless we were warmly greeted by several sharply-dressed waiters who, despite being clearly run off their feet, took the time to usher us to a well set and comfortable table within seconds of entering.

Our drinks order was taken promptly, menus were distributed and a plate of poppadoms and delicious sauces were laid on the table for us to snack on. The extensive menu, catering to literally any taste, took us a few moments to ponder over before we decided upon a madras for myself and a milder balti for my wife.

No doubt the restaurant was very busy, and it is by no means a large building, however both downstairs and upstairs are so eloquently decorated, the ambiance so relaxing and the staff so friendly and inviting we felt as though the whole night was catered around us.

The food was served in very reasonable time and I could, if I wanted, think of endless positive superlatives with which to describe it. The curry was a perfect balance of spice and flavour, taste and texture. It was clear that everything had been made fresh to order, the nan bread in particular I have no doubt had come straight out of the oven and onto the plate.

All in all Balti King ticked all the boxes for a brilliant night out, comprising first rate food, service, atmosphere and value. We will certainly be back again and I urge anyone else out there to give it a try!

Prince of Wales (Banner Cross) - Gerry Kersh -

Rating:

Our crowd (around 10 people) have been going to this pub fairly regularly for drinks on Saturdays. We will definitely not be re-visiting, as we found that a small bottle of slimline tonic is £2.40. I know prices have gone up but this taking the mickey, especially as the service is not particularly quick.
