Visited for lunch last December with my parents after hearing good reviews, but was bitterly disappointed with the standard of food.

My starter and main were OK but on the bland side, as was my mother's meal. My father always enjoys a good steak, and being a retired butcher, knows his cuts. He was not at all impressed to be served an unrecognisable and tough cut of beef, masquerading as best sirloin, with a price tag of around £20 for the dish.

After complaining to the waiter we were astonished that we did not get a replacement dish, nor did the manager or chef come to apologise or offer any explanation. My father, not wanting to cause a fuss as it wasn't the young waiter's fault, paid the bill.

We will not be going again, and feel very cheated.

I thoroughly enjoyed last Wednesday evening, my meal being salmon, it was delicious. I will definitely come again and bring the family.

Thank you very much.

We've been to the Cricket Inn and other Richard Smith places around Sheffield loads of times but feel that it has now become very repetitive, corners are being cut and something that was once really good now feels like the sort of chain that would be better avoided.

The food wasn't bad, just OK. Choice was not as good as it used to be and the printed menu looked like something from a Beefeater-type place. Sad because it used to be far better than all the other pubs offering food.

I think we'll be looking elsewhere in future.

Read good reviews but a very disappointing experience.

Pub split in two parts, one part with large central table and smaller perimeter table - great if you like noisy, badly behaved kids as part of your dining experience. The other side full of cramped tables and fast paced waiters.

Sheffield fish cake starter served on a big square plate, which is fine if the tables are sized to accommodate them. For a lesson in fish cakes try my local chippy, it's not hard to deep fry 2 potato slices in batter with a fish filling and get the fish moist but cooked and the potato fluffy and cooked.

Steak and kidney pie served on a chopping board with a pot of mushy peas and 3 very crispy roast potatoes. Steak was a fatty, kidney absent and crust overdone. Gravy very nice.

Towards the end of the meal the pub and adjacent tables were overrun with guys who had been out running on the moor. I don't like sharing elbow personal space with loud, sweaty types in tracksuits and shorts.

If you like the idea of average pub grub at premium prices in a room full of ill behaved brats and noisy sweaty "athletes" then this is the place for you.
