Almas Indian Brasserie (Dore) - Nick Beal -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I've just spent £30 on a tasteless 'curry' from Almas Indian Brassiere in Dore. The Coke was flat, as was the service and the atmosphere. To top it off I was sat directly under the air conditioning, which made the overall experience much more enjoyable!

If you're thinking of going don't bother. Just get yourself off to Mangla on Spital Hill.

It was a family birthday celebration (60th) so I wanted to book somewhere special. My Aunt is a big fan of Indian food so I booked a table at Zeenat, as it was recommended by my food fanatic friend.

She was right! The restaurant had a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and stylish decor. The waiting staff were pleasant and took time to explain the dishes, and the food was served promptly.

My lamb cutlet curry was out of this world, tender, spicy with plenty of kick. Family members were equally pleased with their dishes.

We will definitely use Zeenat again, and are planning another visit very soon!

I would highly recommend Zeenat for anyone looking for a good curry!

I've been ordering from Zeenat for the past few years and I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. The young man who normally delivers is always friendly and always left waiting patiently as I can never find my purse.

Recently me and my partner have been going to the buffet nights on Monday, which are such good value for money and even get a lift home which saves on the taxi fare!

Keep up the good work!

Best Chinese I've had in a long time. I went for a works leaving party and enjoyed every part of what is a truely authentic Chinese meal.

Yama Sushi Noodle Bar (City Centre) - Jason Leigh -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Food and service was brilliant! For such a small place, it really has a Japanese Tapas bar feel, and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

Top-notch sushi and they seem to have special offers every week

One of the best atmospheres in Sheffield, the people are really down to earth, know how to make you feel like you have been to a top restaurant.

But the best thing about it all is that the price is really cheap. So you get all the good things but for less.

I'm a little biased because I know the owner, but then again if you are from Sheffield and you don't know Mojo then you have missed out. I suggest you check it out if you are not already a regular.

P.S. My regards to the chef on his chicken masala - it's awesome.

Fabulous restaurant! A most enjoyable experience.

I have visited this restaurant many times and each time I have thought the food absolutely delicious. The most striking thing about the food is its freshness and the flavours really come out owing to the attention to detail of the chef.

Finally the ambiance of the restaurant is such that you feel relaxed and comfortable. The proprietor is one of the most welcoming as are the rest of the staff.

I will continue to return again and again as this is far the best Indian restaurant we have in Sheffield.

Top marks Zeenat!

Love this place, been quite a few times and the food gets better and better each time we go. I especially like the chicken chatt starter (something I order each time we go).

The service has been excellent each time we've been, and now if you phone them, they'll pick you up from wherever you are, home or pub etc... and drop you back off after your meal free of charge. I've used this service a couple of times now and never been let down, even when we were in a big group. Last time they ran 2 trips to get us all there.

Big thumbs up to Zeenat.

El Paso (City Centre) - Jenny -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

My boyfriend and I went on a Wednesday evening, we were the first to arrive at approximately 7:30PM. 2 tables arrived shortly after us. The place isn't very big with its 28 places, but that makes it feel very cosy.

The music was authentic and uplifting, the service very personable and friendly. I asked the server (who I believe is the owner) to choose for me, as everything on the menu looked great. He chose the chicken chimichangua, which happens to be his favourite. Great choice. My boyfriend chose the trout. It was fantastic. The veggies and fish were cooked to perfection. The food was hot and very tasty. He recommended the homemade tiramisu for dessert. Fabulously finished the meal.

I'm a professional chef of 12 years and I was very impressed. We will be returning soon and often. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

P.S. the prices are very good as well. Loved it.

Excellent service and even better food! Try the vegetable garlic chilli karahi... gorgeous!

My new favourite eatery!

Parthenonas (Highfield) - Charlotte -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Food was good, waiter was attentive-ish, surroundings more like a cafe than a restaurant. With the prices not being what I would say are cafe prices, it's not expensive but it's definitely not cheap, either.

The interior is a let down. It was almost empty in the 2 hours we were there, which could account for the attentivness of the waiter!

We were not offered coffee or a dessert, and the main menu was a little sparse with maybe 15 dishes including starters. But the food was authentic and tasty.

Ego (City Centre) - Mark Fitzpatrick -

Beautiful restaurant, good ambience, menu looks appetising.

However food and service average. Especially avoid Bouillabaise, insipid sauce. Despite complaint only thing that arrived promptly was the bill.

El Paso (City Centre) - Marian Duggan -

I chose this place directly as a result of reading such great things about it on this website, and it certainly didn't disappoint!

The place itself is lovely; so cosy and with plenty to look at. Whilst it was empty when we sat down, even the arrival of a couple of large parties and more customers could not disrupt the feeling of privacy we felt at our table.

The food was delicious, plentiful and piping hot. The sangria was yummy and to top it all off, we got complimentary shots of Sambuca to finish up with (or to finish us off?!).

The staff were very friendly and accommodated my vegan requirements without making me feel like a social pariah. The bathrooms were also very clean and well stocked.

All in all, a great place and one I'll definitely be returning to soon.

Strines Inn (Bradfield) - Claire Kay -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I'm not a review writer but having just experienced the worst and the best of Sheffield's eateries I thought I'd add to this site. (See my "worst restaurant " review of Canton Orchard.)

This ancient pub set in the most beautiful rolling and wild Peak District landscape (yet so close to the centre up the A57) just served up one of the best roast dinners I've ever had outside of my mum's kitchen!

Hot plate, real gravy, homemade Yorkshire pud, homemade sauces (mustard, apple sauce) colourful fresh boiled veggies and at a very reasonable price. Friendly staff, log fires... can't recommend it highly enough.

This is the first review of Strines Inn.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Claire Kay -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

I was looking for a quality restaurant with good food and after reading a review here that gave this place A+, I called up and booked a table for me and my dad.

We got lost and ended up arriving not a second after 10 minutes late. A man (I assume the manager) walked briskly up to meet us and as we said "Hi we're really sorry but…" he cut us short and very rudely said "No you're late you can't come in'.

Completely taken aback we pointed out we were only 10 minutes late. He butted in before we could finish and said "I told you to come at 7:15PM, you didn't so you can't come in" and started to herd us out.

The young girl / waitress standing next to him (who could have been his daughter) rolled her eyes in apparent embarrassment and turned away in a manner that suggested she'd seen it all before.

Needless to say we left but it put a real dampener on the night. I would strongly recommend against going to this place. No customer service skills at all, and I can't begin to imagine how his poor staff survive working under him.

George & Dragon (Wentworth) - Chris Hanson -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Best Sunday lunch in the area!

Great tasting, properly hand-carved meat, real gravy, great roasts, Yorkshire puds and vegetables and even my wife's veggie option looked really tasty and appealing.

We went earlier this year with about 8 friends and were served in less than 20 minutes, on a busy Sunday lunch time.

Also they have a good range of ales, never a bad thing.

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Kate -

There were four of us dining on 31st October. The atmosphere and food were excellent, I would recommend Cerrone's and will be visiting again in the near future.

El Paso (City Centre) - Frank Collins -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

We visited El Paso restaurant this evening to celebrate my wife's birthday.

We have been to both Italy and Mexico so can compare the quality of the food with the real thing. It was our first visit to El Paso and we really were pleasantly
surprised!

We found the prices to be very reasonable and the wines were definitely not overpriced.

Although most tables in the restaurant were full by 8:30PM, the service was impeccable, the food (especially the fajitas), was out of this world.

The timing of the service was ideal, leaving a pleasant break between courses.

We were treated to complimentary sambucas by the manager in honour of the birthday visit.

It was our first visit to El Paso but it will certainly not be our last!

Papa Ciccio's (Crosspool) - Michael and Jacqui Potts -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

Visited this restaurant last Saturday night. Although the place is small the atmosphere is cosy and the waiters are very welcoming and courteous. The menu is extensive and there are extra specials on a chalk board. Don't know how the chef gets all the meals to perfection out on time given the many choices available.

The fillet steak and fish are to die for and excellent value. A plus with this restaurant is that customers can take their own wine with a small charge for corkage so giving an excellent evening out without breaking the bank. Well done guys.

Would recommend that you book and one final thing, only cash and cheques accepted when settling the bill.

Silversmiths (City Centre) - K Wragg -

Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)

We called Saturday morning to book a table for that evening and left a message. We were politely called back to say that unfortunately they were full, but would keep our number in case of a cancellation (great customer service).

We arrived in Sheffield and, as the restaurant is close to the train station, we called in on the off chance. They accommodated us very well, as we said that we wouldn't stay long as we were going on to a concert.

The food very nice, the ambience spot on, hosts great, food prices reasonable. All in all a very enjoyable experience
