Patoo (Hunters Bar) - Paul -

Rating:

It was very exciting to see the menu, as we have had Thai in many places and most offer simple curry with chicken, pork or beef and stir-fried, which we usually order.

We had their seafood signature dishes i.e. lobster in green curry sauce and New Zealand mussel hot lips. They are absolutely beautiful meals, which is very hard to find the good place for fresh seafood. Whole lobster (1lb) costs only £18. Mussels served as our starter were very tasty and of course with Singha beer.

We will be back again!

British Oak (Mosborough) - Mark Walker -

Rating:

The Oak is a lovely warm pub with very attentive landlord and landlady. The hours of opening are different to any in the your information, as it only opens for tea Tuesday through Friday at 4PM, 2:30PM Saturday and 12PM Sunday, for the best Sunday lunch I've had. It's all fresh veggies and real mash spuds with a choice of meats. Value for money at £7 for large and £4.50 for small.

The beer and lager are always good with a choice of Smiths, Fosters, Kronenbourg, Amstel served in ice cold glasses, Theakston, Guinness, cider. I suggest a visit. Keep an eye on their notice board for live bands as well.

Blue Moon Cafe (City Centre) - Janet Morris -

Rating:

First visited at lunchtime a couple of weeks ago and was impressed, so visited for a hot meal after shopping in Sheffield on 11/12/10 about 4:30PM.

There was not much to choose from, no rice or jacket potatoes available and we were still charged full price. Food was also only luke warm.

Overall a disappointing meal and we wished we had gone somewhere else.

Mama's & Leonie's (City Centre) - Elyse Seaton -

Rating:

After reading the other reviews I felt compelled to disagree!

We walked in one Saturday lunchtime in April/May 2010 (can't remember exact date but snooker was on). We being couple and 3 children. We were seated quickly and very luckily, as the place was heaving. Myself and the children love Italian, my husband is not really bothered! He loved his meal and I have just looked this restaurant up to come solely to Sheffield for!

We all loved the food and we do eat out a lot! My only issue was downstairs is very small.

Mama's & Leonie's (City Centre) - Ann Briggs -

Rating:

Five of us went on Friday evening. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, but that is all the good we can say about it.

The pork ribs when served were so burnt we all stared at then in astonishment. The waitress knew they were inedible because as soon as she put them down she asked if my friend would like some more. So why bring them in the first place then!

When they were brought out again the food was that hot it was still spitting and bubbling, resulting in a blistered finger. Good job it didn't spit in her eye. It was ridiculous to bring to the table a dish that was so hot it was spitting and bubbling.

We had calzones and they were disgusting, very dried up and the tomatoes on top was just a red crisp, the cheese was all dried up and very rubbery, very hard to eat.

We would never eat there again!

Silversmiths (City Centre) - Nick Lilley -

Rating:

Visited with a party of ten from Louth, Lincolnshire, on Saturday 27th November 2010.

Lovely ambience, welcoming and attentive staff, nothing too much trouble. Several large parties in & place full (good sign). Could see empty plates being cleared whilst we had a drink at the bar (another good sign).

Food and service 1st class; menu made up with local Yorkshire produce, all 3 courses very tasty & moreish. Better than many so called "top-end" & starred UK establishments.

Excellent value, highly recommended, already looking forward to next visit.

Ye Olde Mustard Pot (Midhopestones) - Andrew Spiers -

Rating:

We have eaten here several times before and always enjoyed the whole experience. However, we ate there last night and it was appalling, it has obviously changed hands again, as it was not a patch on its former self.

The menu was full of seasonal salads. In November? (It was minus 5 degrees outside, definitely not salad weather.)

We started with goat cheese salad with walnuts (no walnuts, and far too much raw onion, totally over powered the subtle flavour of the goats cheese) and pate with a large salad garnish and only one slice of toast, which was sufficient for one of the two slices of pate given.

Tomato and tarragon soup was nice.

Followed by the mains of fish cake with selection of vegetables, this fish cake was deep fried and was inedible, carrots over cooked, swede cubes and new potatoes, and off the specials board brandy braised steak. This was described on the board as 'To Die For'. It was dry, over-cooked, had no flavour and had no brandy in the sauce whatsoever, set on a bed of mash.

We did however have a great bottle of red which we enjoyed.

When we mentioned this to the waitress (who was efficient) we were told it was the chef's first day. Should be his last as well.

It was such a disappointment, we have loved the food and atmosphere here so many times before, but on a Saturday night to only have 14 people in the whole place speaks volumes, or maybe it was REM coming out of the sound system that was putting people off. Definitely not the right background music for 'fine dining', as much as I like REM.

Avoid this place like the plague, until they get there act together.

Shapla (City Centre) - Becky -

Rating:

I visited the restaurant yesterday for my mum's 50th birthday, so there were 20 people. The place was unorganised, even though we booked 10 days in advance.

The waiters were extremely rude and sleazy, and the food tasted like cardboard curry.

I do not recommend this restaurant; it is not even worth 1 star.

Ye Olde Mustard Pot (Midhopestones) - Elizabeth Ward -

Rating:

Excellent restaurant/pub/B&B

My husband and I have tried many pubs and restaurants in the Yorkshire area, and in our opinion, this beats them all. The Sunday carvery is second-to-none, with a wide variety of roasts and vegetables all expertly cooked to perfection. There is a homely atmosphere to the pub, which makes you feel at home. There is a wide choice of starters and sweets if you can manage one after the carvery.

The decor is olde worlde, with great Christmas decorations in December. They have a large beer garden, which is decorated with very large colourful hanging baskets in the summer.

If you are worried about parking, then it is not a problem. They have a very large car park.

The owner is always on site and along with his staff is always pleasant, cheerful and helpful.

York (Broomhill) - Paula Townsend -

Rating:

We were looking forward to a great lunch on a cold Monday. But we spent £20 and it was mostly inedible.

My partner's battered fish was slimy and greasy, the 'twice cooked' chips were hard inside (some were raw), even the peas were undercooked. My burger was raw in the middle and the extra cheese (at £1.50) barely discernible. The tartare sauce, cucumber relish and chipotle sauce were bland.

As we struggled we heard the chef, loud and swearing (not the wussy kind of swearing, either) on his mobile, saying he was unable to make it to help with a 'cook off' on Saturday. Some people may be relieved to hear that.

After 20mins, when the waitress finally became unglued from her own mobile and noticed us, we were offered a free coffee. We just wanted to leave.

Nice barman, lovely pint and good wine, and they've scrubbed the place up OK. Shame about the food and food service. We will not go there to eat again.

Tin Tin (City Centre) - Ellen -

Rating:

Maybe we hit this restaurant at the wrong time, apparently Chinese graduation, so it was busy!

The food was good, the staff were very hard working, BUT... it just seemed very badly managed.

My starter came out at least 10 minutes before my partner's starter, and when my partner's starter finally arrived they brought out all the rest of the main courses as well! Again the food was good and I couldn't fault the staff for trying, but it just seemed very poorly organised.

The lighting and decor wasn't up to much, either. It seemed too bright and a bit worn out (mold was spotted in the corner of one of the windows).

Unfortunately, even though our food was good, after our experience here we will not be returning or recommending this restaurant.

Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Simon Yorke -

Rating:

The restaurant is warm and welcoming, and being able to see the chef in the kitchen is an added bonus, especially when a pan flames into life when the food is being flambeed.

We went on a Friday night, the dining room was busy but the staff were attentive so we received a drink in quick time.

I had the calamari, which tasted fresh and melted in the mouth, the dressing on the salad was excellent. My wife had Insalata Cerrones, which is chicken, potatoes and crispy bacon in a salad that was also beautifully seasoned and delicious.

For mains we had chicken and spinach pancake that bubbled in the dish. This was packed full of tender chicken and the spinach was again well seasoned. I had a seafood pancake stuffed full of prawns, calamari and salmon in a fantastic tangy fish sauce.

Overall the evening was a delight and we will definitely be returning to work our way through the menu.

Piccolos (City Centre) - Lauren Walsh -

Rating:

I visited Piccolos at the weekend with my boyfriend. We love Italian food and had been meaning to try it for a few months.

The restaurant looks quaint from the outside, a little old fashioned even, and so we were expecting authentic Italian food and (hopefully) lower than average prices.

The menu was varied enough and there were plenty of delicious-sounding dishes to choose from. We shared a starter of calamari, which was not bad but nothing special and you might expect to get it from a pub meal.

My boyfriend had BBQ chicken for his main course, which was grilled pieces of marinated chicken breast. The chicken itself was faultless (although there could have been more of it), but it was served with what looked and tasted like oven chips and microwave-in-the-bag vegetables. That certainly wasn't the authentic Italian experience that we were hoping for.

For my main I had a chicken pasta dish that was sadly lacking in chicken and tasted quite bland, with the overall flavour being of tinned tomatoes.

We shared a dessert, which was very nice and did appear to be homemade, although at £4.50 the portion could have been more generous.

With a bottle of house wine the total cost of the meal was around £45 for the two of us. The food was nothing special and although the staff were very friendly and courteous we didn't think that we got value for money and sadly we won't be returning.

Paulos (Dinnington) - Kay Stevens -

Rating:

Visited Paulos on the recommendation of work colleagues. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our seats.

There was plenty to choose from on the menu and a specials board. I had the king prawns wrapped in bacon to start and hubby had a funghi starter.

For main I had the steak in Acapulco sauce (highly recommended). Steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce was amazing. My hubby has a liking for calzone so that was his choice. We have never seen anything like it! It was jaw-droppingly wonderful, it was enormous and deliciously tasty.

Our friends chose a pasta dish and a steak Roma and both were highly delighted with the quality of the food and everything was piping hot. The boys had several Peroni beers and we had a couple of bottles of a very nice Pinot Blush which was on offer at £9.99 per bottle.

Overall opinion: the place is small and has a warm and friendly atmosphere, staff are polite and attentive, food is excellent and very good value for money. Shall be returning for my birthday in December!

Silversmiths (City Centre) - John Daniels -

Rating:

This place is great. The quality of food and the price that it is for is excellent. Attention to detail is looked at on every aspect.

Booking was a little strange as they don't open until after 5PM, so I would recommend either booking well in advance or calling them when open to speak to someone.

I think that the reason they are busy is due to the quality of service and the food provided.

Will absolutely be visiting this restaurant to sample the other choices on the menu, and soon!

Blue Moon Cafe (City Centre) - Sam -

Rating:

Amazing food, a little pricy but worth every penny for a plate full of yummy food. I go there every opportunity I get. I love my food, Blue Mood Cafe is simply the best in Sheffield. The staff are polite and very friendly.

Sakushi (City Centre) - Tom Guy -

Rating:

Just to let you know there are a variety of sushi and hot starters and mains, including noodle bowls, donburi (rice with toppings), stir fries and salads. They have a set meal in the style of a bento box (kind of a Japanese lunch box). There is a lunch menu of 5 plates of sushi for £7.95.

Overall, the food is great. The sushi is top notch, much better attention to detail than I've seen in other sushi places in Sheffield (WasabiSabi, YO Sushi). It is also affordable for what you get, as true sashimi-quality and fresh fish is hard to come by in Sheffield.

Timings are also good and I've never had to wait long for food, the waiting service is top notch. However I've never seen it at max capacity so have no idea what they can do under high pressure.

Noodle Inn (Highfield) - Jodie -

Rating:

The best Chinese food I have eaten. Always hot, fresh and unbelievably tasty and very good value for money. And the portion sizes are very generous.

The staff are friendly and very helpful. There is sometimes a little wait when busy but is definitely worth it.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant and it is my restaurant of choice for any occasion.
