Loch Fyne (City Centre) - Rebecca Norton - 14th July 2011
Rating:

We made our first visit to Loch Fyne on Tuesday and were very impressed. Tasteful, modern decor and a nice atmosphere. Our waitress was lovely, really smiley and attentive and the food was very good (especially the sea bass) I would definitely recommend a visit.

Chutney (Gleadless) - Pete M - 13th July 2011
Rating:

The best tasting curries I've ever had, coriander and garlic naan is to die for! Great surroundings and next to the Red Lion pub with very cheap beer.

I can't speak highly enough of this place. Been about 30 times and never a bad meal or experience.

Chutney (Gleadless) - Jane Barnes - 11th July 2011
Rating:

Very friendly, extremely good service and the most excellent food. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Thank you for some lovely evenings.

Dilshad Tandoori Restaurant (Woodseats) - Kirstie Roberts - 9th July 2011
Rating:

A friend and I visited this restaurant recently. We had been there about a month earlier and really enjoyed the food and service. Sadly the second time we visited wasn't as good.

We arrived at midnight and asked if they were still open. They were very welcoming and seated us. However, throughout the meal one of the waiters was pacing up and down, making us feel quite uncomfortable.

Halfway through the meal another waiter interrupted us to ask if we would be using the ladies... taken aback we both said no. A couple of minutes later there was an overpowering smell of bleach, which rather put us off our meal. The final straw came when another waiter started hoovering the lower level of the restaurant.

On a positive note the food was excellent, but the service atrocious!

Bella Roma (Hillsborough) - Michael Wall - 9th July 2011
Rating:

If the previous people who have reviewed Bella Roma, giving it 5 stars, are in no way connected to the owners of this place, then they deserve to be sectioned. Because, only insanity or dishonesty can explain their reviews.

I have never written a review of a restaurant before, but having had possibly the worst meal I have ever had last night, I feel obligated to correct the very misleading impression given by other (almost certainly biased) reviewers on this site.

We phoned and asked if they had a table. After going off for a moment or two to check if there was room for us, the lady told us it was fine to come down. So we headed to Bella Roma to be greeted by a restaurant with not a single other patron. Really we should have just turned around, but regrettably we entered, and from that point on we were inexorably committed to our hideous mistake. We definitely should have turned around when the waitress said, "don't sit there, there is a leak above that table". A leak which my wife later pointed out comes down through some electrical wiring.

I asked for two glasses of tap water and said "We'll get some other drinks in a moment". We received two glasses of tepid water. At no point after this we were asked whether we wanted another drink or given a drinks menu. I stood up to see what drinks they had in their fridge. To be fair at this point the chef was very friendly and gave me a sample of their house red which he assured me was "excellent". In reality it tasted like off vinegar. I brought this sample back to my wife who decided she did not want a drink at all. I waited another 5 minutes before deciding that I would need to walk over to the staff again if I was going to get a drink. Despite there being no one else there, they had still not taken any drinks order from us. They had two "authentic" Italian beer options, one of which was San Miguel. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you will find that is Spanish.

Then the food. Lord help us. The calamari looked more like onion rings, and was filled with what I can only assume was processed squid. Kind of like what you might expect to get from Iceland or Asda's freezer range. In fact exactly what you might expect to get from Iceland or Asda's freezer range. Due to its very odd look and consistency, my wife and I would not risk eating the mayonnaise that came with the white bait; which, come to think of it, I have never seen on any other Italian menu. Nor have I ever seen barbecued ribs on an Italian menu. I suppose this could be forgiven if the food was actually good, but the best I can say for it is that most of it was edible.

To the reviewer who said go here for a "true taste of Italy". You have clearly never been to Italy, or indeed a half decent Italian restaurant. I have had more authentic Italian experiences at Baan Thai.

Don't get me wrong: the people who run it appeared friendly enough. But it is quite clear that they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. And as hinted at above, I strongly suspect that they or people associated with them are in fact behind the positive reviews on this site. Please do not be fooled by the positive reviews here. Seriously, avoid this place at all costs.

Dhanistha (Sharrow) - Ian Gilroy - 8th July 2011
Rating:

Interesting. The first time I have had South Indian cuisine and I really appreciated the different choices available on the menu.

I had a seafood dosa (good selection of these) and a mutton curry, which were both tasty, although I wished I had tried the crab curry or one of the prawn dishes, which were quite reasonably priced. Also tried a chicken ginger dish, which was very tender and excellent.

Our friend had a vegetarian green banana dish, which also found favour. Not with me however, hate them myself. My mango lassi was something I would like to drink every day.

Service was friendly and informal, the food was quick to arrive (we ate around 6PM on Wednesday, downstairs was about half full) and I enjoyed myself.

The building was a little rough around the edges but I found the food very authentic, reasonable and the staff friendly.

I look forward to going again and feel badly for the lady who had two bad experiences here.

Bella Roma (Hillsborough) - Jayne Froggatt - 6th July 2011
Rating:

Bella Roma, what can I say other than wonderful? Food fantastic, service second-to-none, lovely friendly atmosphere.

Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a true taste of Italy.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Michelle - 4th July 2011
Rating:

I visited Canton Orchard this Saturday evening and would not go ever again.

The staff, with the exception of the manager, were rude and unhelpful. They were snappy and made me feel like I was asking for the world.

As with other reviews you could not read the bill and was offered a pen and calculator.

In conclusion you stick to the carpet and don't drink the tap water!

I can not rate this as they don't do minus stars.

Piccolino (City Centre) - Peter Suthons - 4th July 2011
Rating:

We went to Piccolino 1/7/11 and I am sorry to say the food was very poor.

Our steaks were very overcooked and dry. The manager, when he did come over, tried to get away with "sorry". In the end we paid for 1 steak.

We will not be going back!

Barrett's Bistro (Beauchief) - Trudi Gehring - 2nd July 2011
Rating:

My fiance took me here last night and we had an outstanding meal. The chef, whom we are assured used to be head chef at Fischer's, particularly wowed me with hearty venison, light seafood risotto and punchy home made black pudding served with a creamy poached duck egg.

It only has a bring your own licence so a) we got wine we knew we would like and b) we ate 4 courses of Michelin-quality for under £80.

Cafe Guru (City Centre) - Keef Wright - 2nd July 2011
Rating:

Booked a table for 5 for fathers day. Turned up just before 7PM. Advertised to open at 6PM but the place was shut.

Reading some of the other reviews I'm glad it was. We went to Nirmals. Glad we did, and so should you.

Marco's Restaurant (Woodseats) - Sue Bacon - 30th June 2011
Rating:

We have been going to Marco's for 6 years now and we have always been served with a smile from the very happy staff.

The food is home cooked and gives me a night off from cooking at home and I leave with no dishes to wash up and at a price that is affordable in these times.

When my family visit from all over the world they always want us to take them back to Marco's, as they have never been disappointed and there is such a varied menu, something for everyone from steak and chips, pasta, pizza and so much more including starters and plenty of desserts to choose from.

There is usually fresh fish on the specials board also. Another bonus is taking your own wine, which really bumps up the price in normal restaurants. We will always go back to Marco's, it is an institution for us.

An extremely happy customer for the last 6 years and for the future.

Amigos Mexican Kitchen (Highfield) - Mona Claringbold - 29th June 2011
Rating:

Went in a group of 6. Got deal on Groupon. Misunderstanding occurred and the manager said they could not accommodate 6 at last minute. Thought they were trying to get out of honouring the deal but he finally accepted our booking.

Got to the restaurant and realised he was not lying. The restaurant really was tiny! It was like the size of a small front room. But that cosiness along with the decor, music, great great service and absolutely delicious authentic and reasonably priced food made the experience great! They even sell authentic Mexican products for you to try and replicate some of the dishes at home. Like the cactus and avocado salad or the chicken mole (chicken in chocolate sauce).

We are hoping to go back soon with a whole group of us! Would recommend it to anyone who is sick and tired of boring franchise restaurants and wants an authentic taste of Mexico! (We have been to Mexico.)

Jailhouse Restaurant at the Garrison Hotel (Hillsborough) - Craig Mitchell - 28th June 2011
Rating:

Called here for Sunday lunch with my partner and was pleasantly surprised.

We had prawn cocktail for starters, which was excellent, followed by a roast beef dinner. The portions were generous, the beef was tender and the Yorkshire pudding and veg was good. The only thing that spoiled it was that the gravy was definitely out of a packet and ruined what would have been a good Sunday dinner.

However, there was a good ambience about the place and we shall return, as it was good value for money.

Chutney (Gleadless) - Lisa Caley - 27th June 2011
Rating:

Visited Chutney for the first time on Saturday.

Wow - a lovely restaurant, excellent service, but most of all the food is out of this world. Best I've ever had.

Lovers of Indian food must definitely eat here. Awesome!

Mama's & Leonie's (City Centre) - Alan - 26th June 2011
Rating:

I have been going to this place for years and simply love it. The food, value and atmosphere are excellent. It is well situated in the theatre quarter and you will not be disappointed. I personally love sitting at the counter downstairs - great fun.

East & West (Sharrow) - Nathan - 26th June 2011
Rating:

Very good authentic South Indian food. Even though small and crammed, the meal more than makes up for the space.

Swan (Ridgeway) - Stuart Goodrum - 25th June 2011
Rating:

The Swan has a great atmosphere with great hospitality, also with the Cygnet gives you added choice of venue.

The Swan has great entertainment with bands and a quiz night. And for the added special is the great choice of homemade food.

Situated in a quiet village it's the perfect place to have a meal.

Highly recommended, as I love it.

Parthenonas (Highfield) - Helen Jennings - 24th June 2011
Rating:

Oh my goodness, what can I say? This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a long time, and I eat out pretty often.

When we arrived the head waiter completely ignored us and started seating people who came in after us. We were then left for an hour before our starter arrived - which was mediocre at best. It consisted of butter beans in tinned tomatoes, tinned vine leaves and very average hummous.

Our mains then took another hour to come and were also very ordinary.

The only redeeming feature was the wine per glass, which was surprising nice for the price.

My advice - go elsewhere!

Everest Restaurant (Heeley) - Carol Watson - 22nd June 2011
Rating:

Numerous Indian restaurants in the local area, but this is always the restaurant I take family and friends to. Food and service is excellent and makes a great night out.

The atmosphere is calm and every time we have been the food is of a high standards and always meets our expectations.

I would definetly recommend Everest.
