Just had our first visit to this really nice Greek restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a party of four we had a really chilled out evening, and as you would expect from the Greek staff, we were not rushed at all during the two and half hours that we were there. It was a little quiet for a Saturday night but the atmosphere was still warm and welcoming. All the individual dishes that we had were commented on as being excellent. These varied from traditional Mousaka and Stifado to a House Special Steak. Were a little surprised that payment could only be made with cash or guaranteed cheque so please be aware of this if you intend paying with plastic. We would once again like to thank Maria and the rest of the small team of staff for a really nice evening and will be seeing them again in February with a few more of our friends. YAMMASS!
I have eaten here a few times and have always been extremely happy with the food and service - BUT I ate here with a friend on 21/12/2006 from the limited Christmas menu and was dreadfully disappointed. My friend had ham hock terrine which was really, really salty with (in contrast) very good black pudding. I had 'hand dived scallops' which if they were hand dived they must have used a magnifying glass to find them. Four for £12 with bits of langoustine deep fried tempura style. I felt cheated. Main course we both had roast fillet beef with rosti. The fillet was nice enough except the rosti was so salty it was inedible and as the beef sat on top of it and then it was swamped with a 'jus' it was very soggy - yuk. £25 each! Pudding topped the dire meal. My friend had trio of sorbet with 'seasonal' fruit, which turned out to be banana and kiwi. Seasonal if you're in the tropics, but not in Sheffield! The sorbets were lime - very sharp, mango - tasteless, and passion fruit - which seemed to curdle as it melted??!! I had banana and passion fruit pavlova (had they got a job lot of bananas and passion fruit cheap?). This was a rock hard white meringue. No softness in the middle- and no cream, creme fraiche, creme anglais, nothing! Just a rock hard ball of meringue half a banana and a scoop of passion fruit seeds. And £6 a time. They had a cheek. They were returned to the kitchen uneaten but nobody asked why. So. We complained. They couldn't care less. Desserts eventually knocked off the bill. £94.50 for 2 for 2 courses. I don't know what has gone wrong at Artisan, but I won't ever go back.
An excellent place to chill out - relaxing atmosphere, and tasteful decor. The food is generally organic, GM free and local if possible, and extremely tasty, with the menu changing regularly. Service is good and friendly. No licence, but you can take your own wine, with no corkage charge. Open early for breakfast and 'till 10PM for a relaxed, drawn out evening meal!
Bosworth's at Bramall Lane (Highfield) - Annette Hird 18/12/2006
Our family met yesterday for our Christmas day. What a FANTASTIC place why has no one reviewed this restaurant continually? We were met warmly and were attended to through out our visit, BUT our meals were absolutely brilliant. We have visited top restaurants all over the world. Sorry, none as tasty as this meal. Each of us agreed we could not have experienced a better meal. So our family have had a brilliant Christmas already. Thanks Bosworth's the effort was worth it to us.
Noodle Inn (Highfield) - Ruth Chua 8/12/2006
Highly recommended!!! If you happen to drop by Sheffield, and you like Chinese food, don't forget to order any food, (every food is marvellous!) especially its Three Roasted (duck, pork & chicken) Rice, WanTan Noodle, Fried Rice. Oh, remember their chilli oil, I love it! Muaks!
Sheiks (City Centre) - Tom and Lorraine O'Donnell 5/12/2006
On a very wet and windy Monday night 3 other couples in the restaurant, all could be heard to comment that they had enjoyed their food. I had the lamb starter and my partner had the cheese starter, both were very tasty and good portions. I had the half-boned chicken and my partner had the lemon chicken, both were good portions and tasty. Service was good, atmosphere cosy. We would go back again. El Paso (City Centre) - Andrea Riszko 22/11/2006
I booked a party at El Paso after reading a review on this website. The staff were very welcoming and courteous. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was terrific. El Paso also organised live entertainment for us. And the best part was when I got the bill, it was an amazing price. A true example of value for money. I thanked the staff individually after the meal. Oh one thing I forgot to mention is that there is also a car park behind. Viva Tequila (Gleadless) - Emma 16/11/2006
I go to Viva Tequila quite often, and the food is fantastic! Also, if you go on a Sunday or Monday night it's buy one get one free on all main courses! It's the best Italian food I have ever had. Plenty of vegetarian options available too, and friendly waiters! It's a great night out on a Friday - after all the meals they tidy away the chairs and have a little party! Very cheap!
Orient Express (Stocksbridge) - C Huxford 12/11/2006
This restaurant is outstanding - the food is always perfect, the salads are amazing - such a variety of flavours. Ingredients are always fresh and cooked to perfection. As a comparison we recently went to Baan Thai one night and Orient-Express the next night - there was no comparison. The food and service at both were very good, but the Orient-Express is outstanding. I would recommend it to all.
Noodle Inn (Highfield) - Gavin 2/11/2006
Fabulous food in very cozy & friendly atmosphere. I would recommend booking for the table, as it can be very busy in the evenings.
Antibo (City Centre) - Yvonne 30/10/2006
Brilliant! Me and 5 of the girlies went for a birthday meal! We were treated like VIPs by the sexy waiter! We will definitely be returning for my birthday. Can't wait!
Al Ameer Palace (Attercliffe) - Bryon Cowling 27/10/2006
We ordered two chicken curry takeaways, two chips, two Nann bread and one Chappati bread. The curries had no consistency whatsoever and were just a brown-ish runny liquid with a strong taste of onion powder and pepper. The chips were grey in colour and grease soaked. However, the breads were OK and the price for a takeaway was acceptable at £15. Unfortunately the meal was worth eatin Nonna's Restaurant (Ecclesall) - David Smith 27/10/2006
I have been to the best restaurants in the UK and all over the world, and I am happy to say, this is the best meal I have had anywhere. True to its Italian roots, great food - authentic fresh pasta, great service and a good vibe. Michael Vaughan was in and really enjoying himself - the best!
23 Bar and Restaurant (City Centre) - Jill Woollatt 23/10/2006
What a disappointment! The service was poor and our waitress was slow and quite rude when I complained that my starter hadn't arrived. I ordered goats cheese and pepper cannelloni for my main course with a tomato and onion side salad. The cannelloni looked like a cheap microwave meal and the portion was very small. The tomato salad came in something not much bigger that an egg cup! I ordered a desert of rhubarb crumble, absolutely disgusting, I couldn't eat it. All in all it's overpriced, the portions are too small and the staff are poor. I left hungry and I won't be going back. Vito's Italian Restaurant (Walkley) - Carol & Ken Baker 22/10/2006
We have been going to Vito's for at least 10 years and it just goes on getting better. The changes that Vito sometimes makes to the menu improve it even more because he regularly introduces more authentic Italian dishes. Vito is committed to providing ingredients of the highest standard, is willing to pay for quality food and this shows in the cooking. The last time we went we had fresh porcini mushrooms, which were wonderful. I had them cooked with tagliatelle in a light sauce; a friend had them as a starter cooked with garlic. We have eaten at Vito's once a week for 10 years and feel that going elsewhere for Italian food is a waste of time. Vito and his staff are excellent hosts who always make you feel welcome. We have never had food there that is anything but excellent.
Absolutely the best Indian food I've ever eaten. After speaking to some of the wait staff they informed me that they're in the top 100 restaurants for Indian food out of 9,000 or something. Quite rightly so, fresh tasting food full stop. Never eaten anything quite like it!
Parthenonas (Highfield) - Lynn Pemberton 13/10/2006
This restaurant is FANTASTIC, the food and service are second to none. If you like Greek food you won't be disappointed.
Sheiks (City Centre) - Omar Rathore-Rayi 6/10/2006
The food is okay, but if you're drunk it's a treat. Those who are well acquainted with Lebanese food will realise that the food is rather bland. There is not much choice in the menu, as it all seems the same with small changes made but given different names. It was also expensive for what it was.
FANTASTIC, there's nothing like it. I've been to nearly every Indian, Kashmiri and Bangladeshi restaurant in Sheffield, but Jumeirah is the one for us. It's only been open 2 months. My wife, Linda, and I tried it out in August. It was busy on a Friday night and when we went back the following Friday we were refused. We tried to book a table for 6 the following Friday but they told us that they were fully booked. We eventually booked for Saturday night instead. It was superb, all the food was cooked from fresh in front of us in the open-plan kitchen that they have. You can take your own drinks and they don't even charge a corkage fee. Fantastic decor, fantastic food, excellent service. Try it and trust me you will not go anywhere else. Angel Inn (Holmesfield) - Jillian Simpson 4/10/2006
For my birthday my husband and I went to this pub restaurant for a meal. Although the food was well cooked, the presentation was not good and we were kept waiting although they were not busy. Although the menu said that all meals were served with vegetables and potatoes I had to go to the bar to ask for them after we had had our main dish a while. Also, if I were them I would not keep people waiting for long, as it gives you time to look around. We were in the conservatory and the green drapes above our heads were dirty and covered in dead flies and the plants on the windowsill were dead and the windowsill could have done with a wash. I am sorry to say we did not wait to have a second course but came home very disappointed. We will not be going back. More reviews:
