El Paso (City Centre) - Neil & Lisa Pywell - 3rd February 2008

It was our first visit to El Paso, and we were very impressed.

When we visit restaurants we play a game where we rate out of ten several parts of the "experience".

A. Service:- this has to be 10 out of 10 the staff were very helpful and attentive without being overpowering. We were even offered a free tequila at the end of the meal.

B. Quality:- this has to be 9.5 out of ten. Lisa had the cheesy garlic bread starter and I the hotshots, both were excellent and very generous portions.

The mains were sirlion naturale for the wife and beef burritos for me. These were both superb and cannot be faulted in any way. The portion size is unbelievable and left us both completely stuffed with no room for even a sniff of a dessert.

C. Value:- again 10 out of 10 with a total bill of £35 including drinks, this left us both gob smacked.

We left the restaurant discussing when to return and that is always a good sign.

We can honestly say we have only one criticism, the cutlery could be of a better shape! They kept spinning around in our hands while using them. We will definitely be returning and recommending El Paso to our friends. A fantastic dining experience not to be missed!

From arriving I was a bit unsure about the decor, however I was greeted warmly and the place had a great atmosphere and an impressive drinks list.

Food was exceptional, presentation was immaculate, however the service was a little slow and not very attentive.

Overall would recommend it to anyone who is interested in proper food. Great local restaurant!

I went to the Walnut Club on Saturday for my birthday with my boyfriend. We had heard really good things about it and were not disappointed.

The food was fresh and well cooked and not too badly priced. There was a live jazz band on and although we didn't catch all of it - it created a brilliant ambience. The service was fabulous, the staff were friendly, helpful and professional but not stuffy.

I can't say anything bad about the experience and am already planning the next visit. I will book with plenty of warning next time - it gets busy and booked up early. It has a definite recommendation from us. Thanks.

I would highly recommend anyone who likes proper authentic Desi food, beautifully spiced and cooked appropriately. I loved lamb rogan josh and chicken tikka masala. Also starters were very good and service was good. It was not very crowded but I would definitely go there next time.

I have not found this mentioned anywhere else on this site, probably because it is quite a new restaurant, but I thoroughly recommend it.

The decor is very fresh and contemporary, with white walls and paintings (from a local artist) exhibited on the walls, which complement the overall scheme. It was a pleasant place to spend a lunchtime, and I was told by the waitress that the restaurant has wi-fi connection (I was carrying a laptop bag, but declined to use it as I had company!).

We got there quite early (11.30?), and although it was empty when we arrived, quite a few people came in while we were eating. We both had a panini and a salad, both of which were nicely presented and very tasty (and the chef didn't seem to mind me going slightly off-menu with my panini filling).

I know a couple of people who have been for dinner, and they have reported an excellent meal, and a good atmosphere. This is definitely an improvement on Viva Latino!

I went with my girlfriend to Seasons for her birthday and can only describe the experience as disappointing.

The atmosphere is contemporary but homely and relaxed. The menu has some classic dishes interspersed with interesting gastronomic offerings.

My starter of scallops, prawns, black pudding and Chorizo was certainly not unpleasant, but a touch over complex. However my girlfriend's duck starter was beautifully cooked and very tasty.

We were both excited to be able to ordered Beef Wellington for our main course, as it's not the sort of thing we would cook at home, our enthusiasm was crushed by a £15 pie of stewing steak, tasty, but never the less a £15 pie and not Beef Wellington.

Similarly, pudding was more miss than hit, I suspect my tasty chocolate pudding was not made from first principles. The passion fruit cheesecake had no tartness or discernable flavour and was essentially seeds and Philadelphia with a couple of sticks of rock hard shortbread that could have been used to jimmy a fire door.

We didn't give them a chance to screw up the coffee, paid our £70 and left.

Where do you begin? I had this place recommended by a friend who lives in Sheffield so I thought I would give it a go. As a self-confessed foodie I always look at the food, and the service etc... comes second. Unfortunately the food was amateurish and the service etc was even worse.

I had a pumpkin tortellini to start, which was a whopping £6.95 for three pieces of pasta that had quite obviously been left over from the pasta making day the previous Monday. I had a weird looking fish dish for main, I know never order fish on a Sunday as it's never fresh, but this thing may well have come from the middle ages, you could smell it being walked over by the incompetent staff.

What ever you do don't sit near the front door as it's freezing. The staff need training desperately our waitress did not know how to pour wine and blundered her way through the entire meal. I believe this place has illusions of Michelin grandeur, to be honest the food my ten year old could cook, the service I might as well have served myself but the only saving grace was the wine, a good range, overpriced, but by the end I didn't care, as I needed a few bottles to calm my mind for the bill.

As a critic myself for a national magazine I will not be mentioning this place in any of my articles and I don't believe I ever will. Could do better, significantly!

We booked our Christmas party at El Paso. The place was full. We were sat upstairs in the function room, which turned into the disco after we finished our meal.

Other parties joined us in the disco and we had a great night. The music was a mix of Spanish and English, which suited us all. The food was beautiful and everyone said it was one of the best meals that they had eaten. We will definitely be back there.

This is a wonderful place to enjoy Chinese food. The roast duck is to die for, as are the prawns, chicken etc...

The staff are so friendly and make you very welcome. The restaurant is very busy but well worth the wait. We eat out regularly and feel that this is now the best Chinese food in Sheffield.

You can also take your own wine and ice cream desert is free. To be honest we would go whatever the price for the fabulous food and wonderful staff make a great night out. But sometimes we cannot believe how little the bill is.

P.S. Ladies check out the fantastic new toilet.

Baan Thai (City Centre) - Ian Bulcock - 8th January 2008

I visit this restaurant regularly and it never fails to impress. The service and setting is excellent, the menu choice is massive with lots of vegetarian options and it is reasonably priced.

It is advisable to book at weekends though as its popularity seems to have caught on!

We've eaten here a few times now and although the food is generally quite good, the service and atmosphere can only be described as atrocious. On our most recent visit, we had booked a 3-course Sunday lunch, which the website told us was accompanied by piano music. Instead we were treated to a performance on the stage of about 10 to 15 rowdy children running up and down, shouting and climbing on furniture. In the absence of any music, the noise drowned our conversation.

The service throughout was polite but minimal to the extreme. We had finished our wine during the 40-minute wait between the starter and main course and had given up trying to alert the absent staff to order more drinks.

The dessert arrived, complete with a 6-inch long black hair baked into my pastry. There was none of the usual "is everything ok with your meals" so I went up to the bar to raise my complaints to the man who seemed to be in charge. He offered to refund the price of my dessert - how generous!

The main door was propped open during our dessert, seemingly to hurry us up. After waiting for some time to have the bill taken from the table, I gave up waiting and went to the bar to pay. We were then left waiting around in the freezing restaurant for a further 5 minutes wondering where our coats were so I took it upon myself to go and look for our coats myself, which I soon found in a room at the back.

We visit many restaurants on a regular basis and I can honestly say I have never experienced service and atmosphere as bad as this place. I was embarrassed to have taken our friends there that afternoon. I was so annoyed with our experience, I wrote to the manager but received no reply. That just about sums this place up. Michelin star? More like Greenshield stamp!

Everest Restaurant (Heeley) - Khan Raja - 2nd January 2008

I have been to Everest recently to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had called the management and booked a table for 6 people

The food was really very delicious and the service by the staff was really impressive. The price is also reasonable, so enjoy!

I would like to ask everyone try it once and you will love it.

I have been to Everest recently to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had called the management and booked a table for 10 people and requested them to make a special arrangement like decorating with balloons, ribbons etc... I was not sure that they will do all these, but when we entered into the restaurant it was really amazing, and we felt really happy with their service it was completely decorated, even more than what we have asked them.

And well coming to food it was really very delicious food and the service by the staff was really impressed.

Finally we had a great time in Everest Restaurant.

The restaurant had a pleasant ambience, despite us being the only 2 people in there. The service at the start was excellent, however the experience in this restaurant soon deteriorated. Initially the drinks were brought to the table in small cartons that we had to pour for ourselves and the starters took 20 minutes to be served (this only consisted of a few vegetables and we were the only 2 people in the restaurant). When the starter arrived the sauce and vegetables were very nice and wetted the appetite for the main courses.

Unfortunately this was false hope. When the mains arrived, they were hot and reasonably well presented, however the quality of the food was extremely poor and was very tasteless. My partner had the jerk chicken, which was over-cooked and tasted of gravy (probably Bisto out of a packet). The other main was a lamb stew. The lamb tasted okay but within the lamb dish itself were sharp fragments of bone mixed in with a side order of gristle. In reporting this to the waiter he said that this is how we serve the dish. He then said we could leave without paying. His attitude was offensive and didn't provide us with an alternative solution.

We decided to leave and vowed never to return to such a poorly run restaurant and low quality food. In visiting many restaurants around the world (including kebab houses) this has to be the worst experience by far and a place to miss.

Butlers Balti House (City Centre) - Priya - 19th December 2007

A good restaurant with delicious food, friendly service & a relaxing atmosphere. Try Aloo sagg in vegetables, it is very delicious and was one of the suggestions from the staff. The price is also reasonable, so enjoy!

Every time I fancy an Italian meal I always find myself here because I know I will get a decent meal. The bruschetta is the best I've had and I've had the pizzas and a few pasta dishes and have never had a bad meal yet.

The only thing that lets it down are the desserts. They seem to sell out really quickly and some of them taste like cheap frozen ones from the supermarket. Luckily I'm usually too full from the starter/main to mind too much.

Its usually quite busy so the tables seem to be getting more and more squashed together but the quality of food has never let me down. The waiters are polite but aren't the over friendly, pestering type, which is fine by me. The door man is a good touch too although I do feel sorry for him.

Nirmals Restaurant (City Centre) - Zena - 13th December 2007

We decided to visit the famous Nirmals Restaurant after hearing such good reviews. However, my experience was not so pleasant and ruined what was a great evening.

To start, we were seated to a dirty table, then given a filthy look when requested to have our table cleaned and set up. 40 minutes later the table was never set despite asking the waiter to do so several times. I would understand if the restaurant was busy, but it wasn't. The waiter was ignorant and rude! Never again!

Piccolino (City Centre) - Jane - 13th December 2007

Really enjoyed my meal, the food was delightful, the made-in-house desserts were a beautiful ending to an enjoyable meal.

The male waiter who served us was attentive, friendly and dare I say very handsome. Despite being pricey it was well worth it. I shall be visiting again soon.

Do not allow them to seat you to the left of the reception desk on the two 'afterthought' tables in front of the screens. I ended up with an icy blast onto my back every time the entrance door was opened and this spoilt my evening. The manager's answer to my complaint was preposterous and I quote "if you had come on a different night sir you may have got a different table."

It took three attempts to get a wine that they had in stock, then they brought the wrong wine to the table initially. The food was good, but the service was unacceptable. We had to ask where our dessert course was after a wait of 20 minutes after ordering.

So overall, not the dining experience that Michelin advocate. They were obviously not sat at the same tables that we ended up at when they did their review.

We recently booked a table for 8 people for my birthday. The reservation was made 3 weeks prior, so plenty of notice was given. The table was booked for 9PM but on arrival we were told it wasn't ready, so we waited 20 minutes.

Once seated we found the waiter to be very rude and unwelcoming. After ordering drinks we were told to calm down. Hence, we were only talking between ourselves. After being spoken to so rudely we quickly vacated the restaurant.

Cannot comment on the standard of food only the hospitality, which left a lot to be desired! So if you like eating in silence this may be the place for you.
