Butlers Balti House (City Centre) - David Bell - 28th October 2012

Rating:

Another great night at Butlers. Good food, good service at reasonable prices. Will be back again!

Tom Scott's (Crookes) - Amanda Lomax - 27th October 2012

Rating:

This place is brilliant!

I've now been twice and on both occasions the food was brilliant. Great presentation and better than that very tasty food with a good variety of dishes.

The reasonable prices made me go back, and I will again, as the staff are friendly and there's a good amount of space so you don't feel crammed in.

The wine list could do with expanding but other than that good work Tom Scott's team.

Hong Kong Wok (Heeley) - Lorna Kinsey - 21st October 2012

Rating:

Excellent food with a variety of choice, value for money. Great customer service and very family friendly, would definitely recommend the Hong Kong Wok. There is no car park but plenty of street parking in the area.

Ayesha's (Dronfield) - Callum Westwood - 18th October 2012

Rating:

These guys have definitely made an impact on my taste buds. I can eat spicier food now because of the flavour.

Try it you won't be let down. Ask for Mizan or Habib, they will tell you what you would really enjoy, no lie.

Barrett's Bistro (Beauchief) - Emily Kirkby - 15th October 2012

Rating:

I had a private party for my birthday for 24 people and I have to say the food and service was excellent. Great value for money and will definitely be returning.

Rajput (Walkley) - Denise Ford - 13th October 2012

Rating:

We ate at this restaurant early Friday evening. The food was absolutely spot on, but unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the service. The welcome was tepid to say the least. I'm not sure what the staff thought they were employed to do, but it certainly wasn't to make their customers feel welcome.

The food was served promptly, but once we had finished we were glared at I can only think because they wanted us to leave. One of the waiters then began to tap his pen on his hand behind one of our party as he stood and stared. I have never been to a restaurant where the staff appear to hate their customers!

This is the first and last time we will be eating here. Such a shame as the food was the best I've tasted in a while.

Maharaj (Walkley) - Jannik Buhr - 12th October 2012

Please note: this restaurant is no longer trading.

Rating:

Very friendly staff, service was quick, food was delicious and exactly the right level of spiciness, portions were generous.

Fairways Inn (Birley Wood) - Helen Walker - 11th October 2012

Rating:

Just want to warn that I know we have come to not expect a lot from carvery chain pubs! But expect even less from this place since the previous manager left ( cleaned it up and sorted it out). Now it is beyond poor standard again. Young staff whom are inexperienced, bar staff whom would suffer pain to smile. Cold food and inadequate portions (obviously trying to stretch the food prepped).

Its only plus was a young waitress whose name I think was Helena or Eleanor, through every request and complaint this young lady smiled and was pleasant. Her total effort all evening embarrassed the rest of the staff, she was very embarrassed when I asked for her name but in the society of today praise where praise is due. Pull your socks up!

La Luna (Ecclesall) - Harry Nixon - 3rd October 2012

Rating:

Went to La Luna for the first time on Wednesday. It was me and my partner's 3-year anniversary.

Food: Excellent

We had 3 courses, digestif and coffee. The homemade desserts were to die for. Tiramisu and white chocolate and fig tart. The sauces for the starters and mains tasted homemade as well. The mixed fish dishes were great. Nice big shrimps.

Service: Better than excellent.

The one guy who served us was attentive without being invasive. He was friendly and knowledgeable about specials and the food generally.

Value for money: less than £50 for 3 courses and after dinner drinks for two. Bargain.

Well worth a visit.

Roast (City Centre) - Anthea - 2nd October 2012

Rating:

Attended a 60th birthday ceilidh on Saturday. Roast had supplied the buffet - fabulous! Best ever, thank you.

Thelma's (Hunters Bar) - Adam Whitworth - 2nd October 2012

Rating:

One of the best cafes in Sheffield! The food is absolutely fab, home cooked with real thought and care about details of the tastes. Lovely venue & staff. A great addition to Sharrow Vale.

Dhanistha (Sharrow) - Jayne Bates - 1st October 2012

Rating:

Very friendly welcome from the owner and his wife. The restaurant is small, light and airy. The menu is full of very different dishes from other Indian restaurants, due to the fact that 99% of them are from southern India and Sri Lanka. Lots of fish and vegetarian choices. Very reasonable prices.

Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - M Fisher - 28th September 2012

Rating:

Absolutely horrendous! The restaurant itself is in a very poor state of repair and decor. However, the main issue we had was the restaurant manager himself.

Having finished our starter, main course and a relatively expensive bottle of red wine - we noticed that our carafe of water and glasses were full of black sediment. We brought this to the manager's attention and his response was a barrage of abuse and a level of protest that led my partner and I to believe he had something to hide. His aggression escalated to such an extent that we had to call the police, who suggested we contact trading standards. We have done so and will not be paying a return visit.

Give it a miss.

Angelo Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Beverley Saxelby - 22nd September 2012

Rating:

Went to this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday night. It was very busy and all the tables were full. Luckily we had made a reservation.

Staff were very pleasant. Food was excellent, both the starter and main course. Neither of us could manage a dessert. Staff were a little slow to clear away dirty plates. All food was cooked to order and piping hot when it arrived at our table.

It is very smoky in the restaurant due to cooking been done in the restaurant without any suitable extraction, which is a shame, it does make your eyes run after a while.

All in all a very pleasant meal with good food. Will definitely give it another go.

Flaming Dragon (Attercliffe) - Philip Meares - 18th September 2012

Rating:

One star is too good for this poor restaurant. I've just taken my 18-year-old son out for his birthday with his girlfriend and brother. The meal was so poor it must have been a mixture of left overs from the past week. Nothing tasted fresh, if that was not bad enough after dropping every one home I got a severe pain in my tummy and had to put my foot down before I made a serious mess.

After a night of regular visits to the loo and a lack of sleep I phoned my son only to find that 3 out of 4 of us has had the same pains. I then phoned the restaurant with my complaint only to be told that I had to get a letter from my doctor!

Artisan (Crosspool) - D Teal - 16th September 2012

Rating:

A poor experience. We were told the soup was butternut squash and were served tomato. A waitress offered to uncork our wine. We were charged £2 per bottle corkage. No indication on the menu or notices about this. We were told it was on the door. Did we come in through the wrong one? No charges last time we came.

Main course was expensive for a piece of pork with onions hidden under it plus a part of mash with a single slim leaf stuck in. Decorative but not good value. OK for a businessperson if someone else is paying.

Finally, we worked out it was £3.50 for a coffee, a small cup with a little jug of milk to share with a friend who had tea. It didn't go far.

Ambar Tandoori Restaurant (Ecclesall) - Angela Lidster - 14th September 2012

Rating:

I go to this restaurant regularly and have never been disappointed. Freshly-cooked, authentic Indian food. Staff are pleasant and efficient and Mr Kumar looks after his regulars like they are royalty. Lamb Bangalore is my favourite but I've never made a bad choice, as the menu is excellent. Booth seating is a bit snug for the tall or wide, so request a table for more elbow room. Enjoy.

La Taverna di Ferdinando (Greenhill) - Alice Jones - 9th September 2012

Rating:

I can honestly say that this is possibly the worst restaurant in Sheffield.

The service was appalling, the staff were rude and we waited over an hour for our starters to arrive. When we complained about our wait the staff actually argued with us and told us it was because everything was cooked fresh.

When the main course arrived at the table they had forgotten one of our party's and they simply brushed it off as if it was OK... telling us it would be here soon. We complained that we didn't want to eat separately and because of this we decided not to eat the mains and leave.

The staff then got extremely aggressive - in fact the manager actually grabbed myself (a young girl) and pushed my dad, as we refused to pay for the mains that had finally arrived at the table, which we had not touched.

My advice would be to avoid this restaurant at all costs unless you like to be abused, have your food served to you cold and fancy a rubbish evening.

Ashoka (Ecclesall) - Andrew Colton - 7th September 2012

Rating:

Fantastic Sheffield curry. You will find no better place on Ecclesall Road. Great staff, great service and great food. We love it that much we go every week. You won't be disappointed.

La Gondola (City Centre) - Leona Oetting - 1st September 2012

Rating:

Welcoming warm atmosphere, with a great focus on quality. My mother, daughter and I had a fantastic meal and left thinking about our next visit!
