Saffron Club (City Centre) - Phil - 5th September 2010
Please note: this restaurant is no longer trading.
Rating:
The Saffron Club was highly recommended and certainly didn't disappoint.
To start with, the ambience was just right in our eyes with great Indian 'chilled out' music, nice decor and a classy feel. The two staff who served us were friendly and attentive and offered good advice when choosing our meals - both the starters and main course were delicious.
Having been to a number of Indian restaurants in Sheffield and being disappointed in the past, the Saffron Club beats them all hands down.
We will definitely be returning.
Chutney (Gleadless) - Bruno Locatelli - 5th September 2010
Rating:
I normally use Rubeez but thought I would try Chutney instead. I find them both equally as good as each other so I just have one the first week the other the second week. Get the best of both worlds!
Bella Roma (Hillsborough) - Ann Reynolds - 5th September 2010
Please note: this restaurant is no longer trading.
Rating:
My husband and I were disappointed when Dinos on London Road in Sheffield closed over two years go, it was the best Italian restaurant in south Yorkshire.
We must have tried every Italian restaurant in Sheffield since then trying to match Dino's, at last we have found it - Bella Roma in Hillsborough.
The waitresses are very polite, friendly and efficient - nothing is too much trouble. The chef is to die for, the food is excellent, very tasty, hot and very consistent.
Take my advice before this restaurant is by booking-only, give it a try you will not be disappointed

East & West (Sharrow) - Sarah Murphy - 3rd September 2010
Rating:
Fantastic food. Haven't tasted anything as authentically South Indian outside of London. Would highly recommend.
Lovely man who appeared to be doing both the cooking and serving.
Could do with being a bit bigger, as I think it's going to get really popular!
Bella Roma (Hillsborough) - Brenda Callaghan - 2nd September 2010

Four of us decided to visit Bella Roma last night, 1st September.
We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was just great. Although to be fair, we were so full with starter and main course, we just had no room to pop in a desert, much to my dismay. The house red was pretty good as well.
As we were "scouting" for future use by lots of us, we are very happy to report back to our various parties, that we shall be frequenting Bella Roma.
The price we paid was just over £53 for the four of us. And I had only 2 red wines, I was being good! We will be happy to return for lots of reasons, because mainly it was a good night out. Quite a lot of people in, and this on a Wednesday. But no doubt once we spread the word around our leisure centre, we will have lots of happy diners.

Ma Potters (Meadowhall Shopping Centre) - Charlotte Henderson - 31st August 2010

A very long wait for an average meal.
I visited this restaurant on Sunday 29th August with my 12-year-old daughter. We waited for ten minutes at the door, and then were shown to a table. We then waited another fifteen minutes until our drinks arrived.
After we ordered (after being told there was no baked potatoes, no cheese, no children's chicken and no mushrooms!), we had to wait forty minutes for our lunch. It was nothing complicated - I ordered the scampi, my daughter ordered sausage and mash.
We got told once that orders were being stacked up in the kitchen, but other diners who had ordered after us were being served before us, so I assume they had forgotten us.
When our lunch arrived, it was overcooked.
The restaurant and the staff were very busy but that does not justify the length of time we waited.
Chez Lahlou (Steel Bank) - Vivienne - 29th August 2010
Rating:
This restaurant is anything but French. Chicken wings & crudites? Nice gesture, but not necessary.
Portions astronomical, but with a price to match. If one orders the mussels one does not require the loganberry, melon, tomatoes, and salad as well. Less is more! Reduce the amount of food, reduce the price. More goes in the bin than is eaten! Emphasis is on quantity rather than quality.
Not sure what is trying to be created here. It is a mish-mash of so many things.
Wine list average, decor dire, music excellent. The strangest restaurant I have ever visited.
Would I return? No, which is a shame, because I think it could have potential, but as it is, not my cup of tea. Too 'in your face', and no class. 3/10
Zizzi (City Centre) - Barnaby Knowles - 23rd August 2010
Rating:
I went to Zizzi on a Saturday evening for a birthday celebration in a party of 5. Having been told that they didn't accept bookings on Saturday nights, we turned up at 7:30PM hoping that they'd have a table free.
We were in luck, although the restaurant appeared full a party was leaving and we were told to take a seat on their sofas and that the table would be ready in 10 minutes.
At this point the norm would be to go to the bar and order drinks. However, when we tried to do this we were initially told that we could not order drinks if we did not have a table. After explaining that we were waiting for a table to be prepared the bar staff relented and the drinks were brought to our table shortly afterwards.
The menu was varied and interesting but didn't contain the dishes that you might expect to find at an Italian restaurant. For example, it only contained one steak and one chicken dish (plus the specials board).
The ambience was very pleasant, as the restaurant was busy and has an open kitchen that makes for a point of interest. Others in my party found the service a little slow, or rather waiting staff seemed a bit scarce, so ordering extra drinks and getting the bill took longer than we hoped.
The quality of the food was good, and my main complaint is the potion size. I chose "Pollo al Limone con Spinachi" from the specials menu and was disappointed to find that this consisted of only a chicken breast in a lemon dressing with a few spinach leaves and some pine nuts, garnished with iceberg lettuce. I guess that's what the menu describes but for £11.95 I was expecting something a little more imaginative! Oh, and the "hot pot of sliced potatoes oven-baked with red onion and sunblush tomatoes" was tiny and had a jagged broken handle.
The red wine that we ordered was lovely but a lot warmer than room temperature. We guessed that it had perhaps been stored cooler and then warmed up a little too much, immediately prior to being served.
Overall it was a pleasant experience and although the food was nice nobody felt that Zizzi offered value for money or an extra special experience to justify its prices.
Hong Kong Wok (Heeley) - Kerry Thomas - 13th August 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
Hong Kong Wok had a nice atmosphere, very casual. The food was great, served in a good amount of time.
I had a seafood linguine, and was amazed at the size of the seafood itself. We were a very large group, and the staff were efficient enough to realise the table we were on would be a little uncomfortable for us all the sit on, so made up a table along the middle of the room.
We had a great night and will be going again.
Marco at Milano (Millhouses) - Emma - 9th August 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I just wanted to make it clear to everyone reading this that Marco @ Milano is indeed a lovely place to eat, despite one haughty reviewer's comments on this site. I read the comments of other diners on this website before I went, and I wholly agree with the positive reviews.
The service was excellent: my wine glass was refilled discreetly for me, food arrived promptly, and a chap who I took to be the owner even came out to check that we were enjoying ourselves. We were!
I would highly recommend the salmon and asparagus pasta for starter - just lovely. I had a gorgeous chocolate pudding for dessert. We all really enjoyed our food.
I tend not to notice the interior of most restaurants (I'm usually too focused on my plate!), but this place felt special. The entrance is very spacious and looks through to the terrace - a great welcome which made me feel like I was walking into a taverna abroad.
Highly recommended. Hope to go back for another special occasion.
Hong Kong Wok (Heeley) - Laura - 9th August 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
We booked a table in advance as there were 10 of us and everybody enjoyed their night!
The food is delicious and affordable. The waitresses were very helpful and the atmosphere is vibrant and friendly.
I would recommend the crispy duck, it's beautiful mmm... my mouth is watering now.
Silversmiths Restaurant & Bar (City Centre) - J Sherwin - 5th August 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
It has been some time since I last visited Silversmiths but the food is every bit as good as on previous occasions
I had loin of venison as a main course, which was possibly the best I have ever had. It was so tender you could have fed it to a baby. My wife had the sea bass linguine - a first for her- but equally enjoyable.
The service and ambiance helped to make it a very special evening.
Chilango Mexican Kitchen (Meadowhall Shopping Centre) - Liam Talbot - 26th July 2010

My girlfriend and I ate here last week just before going to watch a film.
I was slightly confused when I first entered, as I have never been before. After a few seconds I realised it was a subway type system, you select your desired taco, burrito, wrap, just like you would your bread at subway. Moving along you select your meat, cheese, sauces etc...
I decided to go with steak and cheese tacos, although they were more like wraps than tacos, and about the size of a packet of Rolos. Bearing in mind I had 3 of these, on an empty stomach it was hardly enough to fill me up, for £6 I expected to at least receive a few fries or nachos.
The steak within the taco (wrap) itself wasn't too bad, but the wrap lacked any sort of substance and seemed to have a strange odour that stayed on my fingers for a while after.
I left a comment card with a negative review. It's just like any other fast food place, the quality of the food is nothing special, McDonald's or KFC downstairs will give you more value for money. Meals at KFC are roughly a fiver, maybe less, include a drink, fries and a decent main. Main meal alone at Chilango is £6.
I left a negative review on a comment card whilst leaving and I will never be visiting again.
Lokanta (Broomhill) - Sinan Yilmaz - 21st July 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
What a fantastic surprise finding Lokanta in Sheffield. I totally enjoyed every minute of the Lokanta experience. Great Turkish hospitality, fabulous presentation, combined with magnificently delicious Turkish food.
Growing up with the taste of Turkish food, I am very pleased to say that Lokanta is doing a great job with their representation of Turkish cuisine.
I wish them all the success and very happy to recommend Lokanta to everyone who would like to taste the real Turkish food.
Aagrah (City Centre) - Ashutosh Kale - 20th July 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was ordinary and overpriced. But worst of all, the attitude of the staff there was unpalatable.
I had reserved a table but was made to wait in the waiting area. When I enquired about it, instead of apologising I was rudely told by a staff member "Don't show us attitude. We are busy and people here reserve tables weeks in advance". Such arrogance!
Everest Restaurant (Heeley) - Gemma Bedford - 8th July 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I have been coming to Everest Restaurant for more than 4 years now and I have to say the food, the waiters and the service is brilliant.
I always recommend Everest Restaurant to family and friends when they feel like having an Indian. I've been to many Indian restaurants around Sheffield but Everest has done it for me.
Mediterranean (Hunters Bar) - Neil Flint - 4th July 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
Have visited this restaurant twice and both times been impressed with the service and quality of the food.
On the first occasion my partner and I had a few drinks before coming across the restaurant unexpectedly. On the second visit we took my brother and sister-in-law, who were equally impressed.
The moules marnierre starter and red snapper were lovely, but everything was cooked well and to order... will be going back shortly!
Rushour (Heeley) - Shelley Seemley - 27th June 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
Had a meal at the Rushhour last night, absolutely great and such value for money.
Service is excellent and food very fresh - can see it all being prepared. Such a shame that it was quite empty for a Saturday night.
If you enjoy good fresh food then give it a try.
Everest Restaurant (Heeley) - Steve Dowds - 25th June 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
We've been eating in Everest probably twice per month for at least 10 years. It is not just the best Indian restaurant in Sheffield, it is one of the best in the country.
The food is fantastic. The staff are efficient and friendly and the service is excellent. They anticipate every need and remember regular customers' preferences, to the point where all I have to do is walk in and they serve the beer I want without me even having to ask for it! Perfect.
One weekend we couldn't come in as I was unwell. When the staff at Everest heard we couldn't come in, they delivered our favourite meal to our house, even though we live some miles away outside their regular delivery area. I can't commend them highly enough.
The food is absolutely excellent. Go for the Chicken Tikka Karai to start and then have a Chicken Handy - I think these are the best dishes on the menu. But if you want to experiment and try something not on the menu, they'll do that, too.
It is unrivalled value for money - I've eaten in places in London & Manchester where the food wasn't half as good as in Everest but they charged 4 times what Everest do.
Go there. You won't be disappointed, it's the best. (Just don't go at 9PM on a Friday - I want to get my regular table!)
Portofino (Heeley) - Liz and Graeme Ralph - 15th June 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
The food at Portofino is consistently good, it is imaginatively cooked and there is a good range from pizza and pasta to gorgeous fish and meat dishes with an Italian flair. The green apple sorbet is to die for. There is a new set menu during the week - worth investigating.
