Zeenat (Attercliffe) - Joanna Hayes - 15th January 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
Fabulous restaurant! A most enjoyable experience.
I have visited this restaurant many times and each time I have thought the food absolutely delicious. The most striking thing about the food is its freshness and the flavours really come out owing to the attention to detail of the chef.
Finally the ambiance of the restaurant is such that you feel relaxed and comfortable. The proprietor is one of the most welcoming as are the rest of the staff.
I will continue to return again and again as this is far the best Indian restaurant we have in Sheffield.
Top marks Zeenat!

Love this place, been quite a few times and the food gets better and better each time we go. I especially like the chicken chatt starter (something I order each time we go).
The service has been excellent each time we've been, and now if you phone them, they'll pick you up from wherever you are, home or pub etc... and drop you back off after your meal free of charge. I've used this service a couple of times now and never been let down, even when we were in a big group. Last time they ran 2 trips to get us all there.
Big thumbs up to Zeenat.

My boyfriend and I went on a Wednesday evening, we were the first to arrive at approximately 7:30PM. 2 tables arrived shortly after us. The place isn't very big with its 28 places, but that makes it feel very cosy.
The music was authentic and uplifting, the service very personable and friendly. I asked the server (who I believe is the owner) to choose for me, as everything on the menu looked great. He chose the chicken chimichangua, which happens to be his favourite. Great choice. My boyfriend chose the trout. It was fantastic. The veggies and fish were cooked to perfection. The food was hot and very tasty. He recommended the homemade tiramisu for dessert. Fabulously finished the meal.
I'm a professional chef of 12 years and I was very impressed. We will be returning soon and often. I highly recommend this place to anyone.
P.S. the prices are very good as well. Loved it.

Had a brilliant night out at the new look Zeenat.
Excellent service and even better food! Try the vegetable garlic chilli karahi... gorgeous!
My new favourite eatery!
Parthenonas (Highfield) - Charlotte - 3rd January 2010

Food was good, waiter was attentive-ish, surroundings more like a cafe than a restaurant. With the prices not being what I would say are cafe prices, it's not expensive but it's definitely not cheap, either.
The interior is a let down. It was almost empty in the 2 hours we were there, which could account for the attentivness of the waiter!
We were not offered coffee or a dessert, and the main menu was a little sparse with maybe 15 dishes including starters. But the food was authentic and tasty.

Visited here on the day after Boxing Day. Saw a good review in Sheffield Star.
First impressions OK. Lighting very bright. Glanced around at the floor and saw it had obviously not been swept for quite a while as crumbs and bits of food everywhere.
Waiters were friendly - ordered some poppadoms to start. Presented with 4 side plates and the bottom one was filthy - covered in old food. My husband put it on one side but I would have told them as I think they should know this is not a good start.
My first impressions of the menu were that it is not 'cafe' prices. I know it is owned by the infamous Richard Smith though so thought things would be worth paying extra for!
We ordered some beers but had to chase them up, as the order not reached the bar. The waiter did offer us more poppadoms though, but we were full. Was a bit put out by the massive bolt the waitress had through her tongue that kept shining at me whilst she was talking.
Our main courses were pretty average. I had the spicy fish & chips and found the batter heavy and tasteless. The spicy take on mushy peas was the tastiest thing but there was not enough of it. Chips with skin still on were miles away from the delicious chucky chips I have been used to at Richard ' s other restaurants. My husband had the lamb, which he said was tasty enough. We had overpriced but nice ice cream at £2 a scoop with a dirty spoon - need to sack the dishwasher!
Afraid we won't be rushing back. Felt like it was £70 wasted, should have stayed at home and had turkey leftovers.
Milestone (Shalesmoor) - Karen - 17th December 2009

Went to this restaurant last night, we knew it was going to be expensive, £26.95 for 2 courses but we thought it would be worth it.
How wrong we were, starter of smoked salmon with orange, well, it was a couple of slices of smoked salmon with what looked liked some purple stuff painted on the side, so thin you couldn't even use it as a dip, then a tiny piece of monk fish wrapped in a piece of bacon, with a carrot and a potato. There were side dishes of peas and curly kale they also gave us some bread.
Although nicely presented, not at all worth £26.95.
We went as a group of 12 for Christmas, we were upstairs, there were no Christmas decorations, no crackers, nothing at all to suggest it was a Christmas meal.
The staff were pleasant.
On top of the bill there was a £47 tip (this was optional).
Good place to go if on a diet and have more money than sense.

After having seafood risotto for lunch; about 2PM, on Friday 11th December. By Friday night I was violently sick, the vomiting stopped. I then spent the night laid on the bathroom floor waiting for the next bout.
I then spent the day in bed suffering terrible stomach cramps, rather than with the kids at a Santa's Grotto.
I telephoned the restaurant Saturday evening only to be told I need to visit a doctor (mine or the walk in centre) on the Sunday, on the Sunday! And leave 'the relevant samples' after which the directors of the restaurant would address the issue once the tests results where returned to me.
As if...
I should add here that; although all I had eaten that day was Shredded Wheat and banana and had to drink was water, two coffees and one glass of coke all day - I may NOT have become ill from the food eaten at Felicini.
Needless to say I will not be visiting my doctor or the walk in centre, as I thought that food poisoning is out of your system within 24 hours.
What do you think?
Nino's L'Incontro (Sharrow) - Bart - 10th December 2009

We had been there before, and compared to some of the Italian places, it's a delight to go to Abbeydale Road and have a proper Italian meal.
The staff are very polite and friendly. The atmosphere is simple and casual. And the food is absolutely lovely.
Good pasta (although I doubt whether they make it themselves), gorgeous sauces (try the meatballs and compare them with those of Nonna's - so much more flavour). It's a real treat.
Too bad it's a bit tucked away on Abbeydale Road (just after London Road).
Ego (City Centre) - Mark Fitzpatrick - 8th December 2009

Beautiful restaurant, good ambience, menu looks appetising.
However food and service average. Especially avoid Bouillabaise, insipid sauce. Despite complaint only thing that arrived promptly was the bill.
El Paso (City Centre) - Marian Duggan - 3rd December 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I chose this place directly as a result of reading such great things about it on this website, and it certainly didn't disappoint!
The place itself is lovely; so cosy and with plenty to look at. Whilst it was empty when we sat down, even the arrival of a couple of large parties and more customers could not disrupt the feeling of privacy we felt at our table.
The food was delicious, plentiful and piping hot. The sangria was yummy and to top it all off, we got complimentary shots of Sambuca to finish up with (or to finish us off?!).
The staff were very friendly and accommodated my vegan requirements without making me feel like a social pariah. The bathrooms were also very clean and well stocked.
All in all, a great place and one I'll definitely be returning to soon.
Nirmals Restaurant (City Centre) - Robin MacNeill - 28th November 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
Nirmals is simply one of the, if not the, finest Indian restaurant in Sheffield.
Where to start? Their homemade pickles (especially the carrot one) with popadums could be a meal in themselves. They make the best prawn puri I've ever eaten, a delicate freshly cooked puri sat on prawns in a lightly spiced cream sauce with a good bit of coconut. Their chicken wings are great too, with a tasty chickpea curry.
To be fair all the starters I've tried have been delicious. The mains are just a step above you're average curry, tastier, fresher everything about them says quality. And I'd try the parsnip side dish.
Rarely have space for puddings but like the kulfi very much when I can fit it in. Again it's homemade and puts what you've tried before into the shade. I've been many times so I may be biased but I think you'd be mad not to give it a go.
Dosanj (City Centre) - Sven-E Reitan - 18th November 2009
Please note: this restaurant is no longer trading.
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
My wife and I went out for a meal 15/11/2009, and because we had some vouchers for Dosanj we decided to go for a curry.
When we got in we were met by a very bright and clinical light in front of the room. However we were seated closer to the kitchen, so this didn't bother us while waiting for our food.
Now, we don't mind waiting, but having to wait more than an hour to get our food is a joke, especially when the restaurant is only 3/4 full. During our wait we noticed that a few tables sent their food back, for what reason I don't know. We also noticed that there were lightbulbs missing in more than half of the ceiling, wires were visible all over and there were a general lack of attention for details and finish.
When the food finally arrived it was a tiny portion but enough rice and a small naan. It tasted good, but not amazing as you would expect when they have the nerve to charge £15 for a curry! (I've had better take away meals form Everest and Shaah.) At the end of the night I noticed two things that really shocked me:
1. While waiting for the bill I saw the guy who did the dishes recycle vegetables (carrot flowers) from dishes brought in from tables to dishes going out to new table.
2. A certificate from Eat Sheffield, saying Dosanj is the best newcomer in 2009. If this is true, I will dread visit the other competitors in this category for 2009.
Popolo Bar Lounge & Kitchen (City Centre) - Julie Papp - 16th November 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I was very disappointed when I recently visited Popolo with three friends.
For a starter I ordered the garlic mushrooms served on toasted home made bread - what I actually got was garlic mushroom with what can only be described as a large crouton served on the side. One of my friends ordered large flat mushrooms with a cream and dill sauce - what she received was large mushrooms topped with mozzarella cheese and spinach on toasted bread!
Two of our party, including myself, ordered the beef stroganoff for mains but had to send them back because the food was cold. When the plates returned the portion size had dramatically shrunk and the stroganoff has no sauce whatsoever. At this point one of my friends had tried her dish, chicken breast rolled in mozzarella and bacon to find it was packed with sage leaves and because of the overpowering taste of this strong herb was unable to eat it.
The manager did allow us to choose again from the menu which meant that one person was eating their main while three were waiting for their meal to be cooked again.
I was disappointed that having spent just under £93 for lunch nothing was knocked off the bill and no complimentary drink was offered. However I must say that the waiting staff were very friendly, efficient and could not apologise enough!
Strines Inn (Bradfield) - Claire Kay - 15th November 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I'm not a review writer but having just experienced the worst and the best of Sheffield's eateries I thought I'd add to this site. (See my "worst restaurant " review of Canton Orchard.)
This ancient pub set in the most beautiful rolling and wild Peak District landscape (yet so close to the centre up the A57) just served up one of the best roast dinners I've ever had outside of my mum's kitchen!
Hot plate, real gravy, homemade Yorkshire pud, homemade sauces (mustard, apple sauce) colourful fresh boiled veggies and at a very reasonable price. Friendly staff, log fires... can't recommend it highly enough.
Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Claire Kay - 15th November 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I was looking for a quality restaurant with good food and after reading a review here that gave this place A+, I called up and booked a table for me and my dad.
We got lost and ended up arriving not a second after 10 minutes late. A man (I assume the manager) walked briskly up to meet us and as we said "Hi we're really sorry but…" he cut us short and very rudely said "No you're late you can't come in'.
Completely taken aback we pointed out we were only 10 minutes late. He butted in before we could finish and said "I told you to come at 7:15PM, you didn't so you can't come in" and started to herd us out.
The young girl / waitress standing next to him (who could have been his daughter) rolled her eyes in apparent embarrassment and turned away in a manner that suggested she'd seen it all before.
Needless to say we left but it put a real dampener on the night. I would strongly recommend against going to this place. No customer service skills at all, and I can't begin to imagine how his poor staff survive working under him.
Dosanj (City Centre) - Suzanne - 15th November 2009
Please note: this restaurant is no longer trading.
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I don't particularly like submitting negative feedback but sometimes it's the only way a place can improve.
Dosanj has the potential to be something special, it's in a great location and a modern designed building, but really that's where it ends...
We went on a Saturday night at 8:30PM. As you enter the lighting is quite bright and uncosy. We took a seat by the open kitchen, which doesn't really do the restaurant any favours, as you can see lots of plastic containers and unsightly kitchen utensils with bright kitchen lights, more like a takeaway ambience!
The flustered waitress came to our table and said, sorry you've been waiting the kitchen's gone mad tonight! Mmmm reassuring... and it wasn't even that busy!
We ordered drinks and looked at the menu... expensive is all I can say, glad we had come with our 'Charity Unleashed' vouchers. I ordered chicken tikka masala and my husband chicken korma. The dishes cost £15 approx but came with rice and a naan as part of the dish. Bearing in mind I didn't really want a naan so its a strange kind of concept.
We waited and waited and 1 hour later out came the food, which fair enough looked pretty on the plate but not worthy of its price tag and not a patch on many of the other Indian restaurants in Sheffield. Quite off-putting watching one of the 'chefs' taking carrot flower decorations that had been left uneaten off one guests plate to use on another as well!
Anyway before leaving we went to the lavatories upstairs and the whole of the floor is not in use. There was a TV in a corner and 2 chairs. Not much attention to detail in this place and we feel they are trying to be something they quite clearly are not!
Gordon Ramsay would have a field day! We will not return.
La Tasca (Meadowhall Shopping Centre) - Claire Leach - 13th November 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
Fabulous restaurant! 5-star food, 5-star service. A most enjoyable experience. We will continue to return again and again.
All the staff are happy and make you feel welcome, children are always welcome, too, and activities are supplied. There is a good menu choice and drinks selection.
Something for everyone.
George & Dragon (Wentworth) - Chris Hanson - 5th November 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
Best Sunday lunch in the area!
Great tasting, properly hand-carved meat, real gravy, great roasts, Yorkshire puds and vegetables and even my wife's veggie option looked really tasty and appealing.
We went earlier this year with about 8 friends and were served in less than 20 minutes, on a busy Sunday lunch time.
Also they have a good range of ales, never a bad thing.
Angelo Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Kate - 1st November 2009
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
There were four of us dining on 31st October. The atmosphere and food were excellent, I would recommend Cerrone's and will be visiting again in the near future.
