Rating:
Well, we read the reviews and thought the restaurant sounded great - but what a disappointment. Main course was quite nice, but the desserts! I thought you cannot go wrong with a cheesecake - wrong. It came in a sundae dish and it was a sloppy mess. The biscuit base was hot they had obviously put it in the microwave to thaw and left it in too long (yuk) and then charged £4.00 for the privilege. How people have rated this restaurant 5 stars is beyond me - maybe they need to get out more!
Avais Jangir (manager) responded on 25th September 2010:
I'm the manager of Bella Roma I apologise for your disappointing experience while dining with us I would like to get to the bottom of this matter because our cheesecake is freshly made and should not be microwaved can you please confirm what date you visited the restaurant it would be greatly appreciated thank you very much. I would once again like to apologise for this and hope you will try us again. Peacock Inn (Owler Bar) - Anne Taylor - 21st September 2010

We booked a table for 5 for my daughter's birthday at 3PM on a Sunday afternoon. When we arrived we were told that there was a 45-minute wait for the main course - not sure why as the restaurant was not overly busy. Although some of our party had a long journey to make and time was short, we decided to stick it out and fortunately our wait was not quite as long as this. After about 15 minutes my husband went off to chase a waitress, as no one had taken a drinks order. He was told that someone would be sent over to us shortly, but no one arrived. Eventually we asked another waitress to take our order but when it came, my selection was not available, even though it was a simple fruit juice from the drinks menu. Two of us had starters which were OK, although mine was only just warm. The dish that I ordered for main course - a risotto - was not available so instead I chose a vegetable lasagne. I only managed to eat half of what was a small portion, because it was totally dry with hard sheets of lasagne on the top, and the presentation was awful. My mother requested roast beef form the Sunday roast menu, but there was none of that, either, so she settled for pork. We asked the waitress if it would come with gravy already on it and she said that it would, so we specifically asked for no gravy and she wrote this on her note pad. The vegetables arrived in a cold side dish with a jug of gravy, which although unwanted, indicated that the meat would be gravy-free, as requested. Unfortunately, this was not the case - the meat was smothered in gravy and so we sent it back. By the time a replacement arrived the luke-warm vegetables were cold. When we had finished, the waitress collected our plates and asked us if everything had been OK. I told her that I could not eat mine, as it was dried up, to which she commented "Sorry about that", but no further action was taken. We then waited to place an order for deserts, but no one came. After another long wait we abandoned any hope of getting any puddings and decided to call it a day. We left vowing not to return again. Vito's Italian Restaurant (Walkley) - Diane Adams - 19th September 2010
Rating:
We have been going to Vito's Italian Restaurant in Walkley for 20 years and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves fine dining and especially Italian food. The staff are very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable and are never pushy. The relaxed atmosphere is that of a traditional family-run Italian restaurant where the chef, Vito, takes pride in his work, and it shows! Over the years we have seen many changes to the vast and varied menu on offer and unlike most long standing restaurants who stick with the same menu, Vito is always reinventing his. We can't wait to visit in a couple of weeks when his new menu is launched. The food is always of very high standard and most importantly is AUTHENTIC Italian fayre. Every dish cooked to perfection, and the only place in Sheffield you'll get your steak exactly how you like it! Be sure to leave room for a dessert. Vito knows his wine and has one of the finest wine lists you'll ever come across. From delicious and reasonably priced house wine, to something a bit more special at £320, you will not be disappointed. Our particular favourites are the Pinot Grigio Collio Marco Felluga at a reasonable £25.50 a bottle, and the Chianti Classico Peppoli Antinori at £24.50 a bottle. Yes, there are lots of (cheaper) restaurants to choose from in Sheffield, but if you want top quality authentic Italian food and wine, there is only one place to head for and that's Vito's! You won't be disappointed. Everest Restaurant (Heeley) - Suzan and Sarah - 18th September 2010
Rating:
I have been to Everest recently to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had called the management and booked a table for 12 people. The food was really very nice and the service by the staff was really impressive. The price is also reasonable, so enjoy! I would like to ask everyone try it once and you will love it. Music is really nice. The longer we stayed in the restaurant the more memorable it got. I will be back again, I promise. Shapla Tandoori Restaurant (City Centre) - Kris - 15th September 2010
Rating:
Well as always one more Bangladeshi restaurant claiming to be Indian. But still we dared trying and ended up in utter disappointment. The food was dripping in oil, the tandoori was burnt and the mains were disgusting... all in all total waste. And worst is their service - absolutely arrogant and unfriendly. Except for good decor this restaurant is definitely a big no-no. Jumbo Buffet (City Centre) - Leila Lindsay - 12th September 2010
Rating:
Jumbo is cheap and efficient. The food is great. Every time my daughter and I have been everything's been above board. It's a clean restaurant and I would tell people about this buffet. Arena Square (Attercliffe) - Dolah Brown - 12th September 2010
Rating:
Went in for Sunday lunch 4th September 2010 and it was a very poor Sunday roast. Would not go back in there and it cost £7.99. Not worth it. Bella Roma (Hillsborough) - Leila - 11th September 2010
Rating:
My partner and I enjoyed our meal at Bella Roma, the food was excellent. There was a long wait but it was worth the wait. It cost us £36 for two mains, starter and a dessert with 2 glasses of coke, which I thought was pretty fair. The waitresses were pleasant but kept coming to the table asking if everything was alright. By the end I was thinking just let me eat! Saffron Club (City Centre) - Phil - 5th September 2010
Rating:
The Saffron Club was highly recommended and certainly didn't disappoint. To start with, the ambience was just right in our eyes with great Indian 'chilled out' music, nice decor and a classy feel. The two staff who served us were friendly and attentive and offered good advice when choosing our meals - both the starters and main course were delicious. Having been to a number of Indian restaurants in Sheffield and being disappointed in the past, the Saffron Club beats them all hands down. We will definitely be returning.

I normally use Rubeez but thought I would try Chutney instead. I find them both equally as good as each other so I just have one the first week the other the second week. Get the best of both worlds! Bella Roma (Hillsborough) - Ann Reynolds - 5th September 2010
Rating:
My husband and I were disappointed when Dinos on London Road in Sheffield closed over two years go, it was the best Italian restaurant in south Yorkshire. We must have tried every Italian restaurant in Sheffield since then trying to match Dino's, at last we have found it - Bella Roma in Hillsborough. The waitresses are very polite, friendly and efficient - nothing is too much trouble. The chef is to die for, the food is excellent, very tasty, hot and very consistent. Take my advice before this restaurant is by booking-only, give it a try you will not be disappointed Ann & Robert East & West (Sharrow) - Sarah Murphy - 3rd September 2010
Rating:
Fantastic food. Haven't tasted anything as authentically South Indian outside of London. Would highly recommend. Lovely man who appeared to be doing both the cooking and serving. Could do with being a bit bigger, as I think it's going to get really popular! Bella Roma (Hillsborough) - Brenda Callaghan - 2nd September 2010
Rating:
Four of us decided to visit Bella Roma last night, 1st September. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was just great. Although to be fair, we were so full with starter and main course, we just had no room to pop in a desert, much to my dismay. The house red was pretty good as well. As we were "scouting" for future use by lots of us, we are very happy to report back to our various parties, that we shall be frequenting Bella Roma. The price we paid was just over £53 for the four of us. And I had only 2 red wines, I was being good! We will be happy to return for lots of reasons, because mainly it was a good night out. Quite a lot of people in, and this on a Wednesday. But no doubt once we spread the word around our leisure centre, we will have lots of happy diners. Brenda C Ma Potters (Meadowhall Shopping Centre) - Charlotte Henderson - 31st August 2010
Please note: this restaurant is no longer trading.
Rating: A very long wait for an average meal. I visited this restaurant on Sunday 29th August with my 12-year-old daughter. We waited for ten minutes at the door, and then were shown to a table. We then waited another fifteen minutes until our drinks arrived. After we ordered (after being told there was no baked potatoes, no cheese, no children's chicken and no mushrooms!), we had to wait forty minutes for our lunch. It was nothing complicated - I ordered the scampi, my daughter ordered sausage and mash. We got told once that orders were being stacked up in the kitchen, but other diners who had ordered after us were being served before us, so I assume they had forgotten us. When our lunch arrived, it was overcooked. The restaurant and the staff were very busy but that does not justify the length of time we waited. Chez Lahlou (Steel Bank) - Vivienne - 29th August 2010
Rating:
This restaurant is anything but French. Chicken wings & crudites? Nice gesture, but not necessary. Portions astronomical, but with a price to match. If one orders the mussels one does not require the loganberry, melon, tomatoes, and salad as well. Less is more! Reduce the amount of food, reduce the price. More goes in the bin than is eaten! Emphasis is on quantity rather than quality. Not sure what is trying to be created here. It is a mish-mash of so many things. Wine list average, decor dire, music excellent. The strangest restaurant I have ever visited. Would I return? No, which is a shame, because I think it could have potential, but as it is, not my cup of tea. Too 'in your face', and no class. 3/10 Zizzi (City Centre) - Barnaby Knowles - 23rd August 2010
Rating:
I went to Zizzi on a Saturday evening for a birthday celebration in a party of 5. Having been told that they didn't accept bookings on Saturday nights, we turned up at 7:30PM hoping that they'd have a table free. We were in luck, although the restaurant appeared full a party was leaving and we were told to take a seat on their sofas and that the table would be ready in 10 minutes. At this point the norm would be to go to the bar and order drinks. However, when we tried to do this we were initially told that we could not order drinks if we did not have a table. After explaining that we were waiting for a table to be prepared the bar staff relented and the drinks were brought to our table shortly afterwards. The menu was varied and interesting but didn't contain the dishes that you might expect to find at an Italian restaurant. For example, it only contained one steak and one chicken dish (plus the specials board). The ambience was very pleasant, as the restaurant was busy and has an open kitchen that makes for a point of interest. Others in my party found the service a little slow, or rather waiting staff seemed a bit scarce, so ordering extra drinks and getting the bill took longer than we hoped. The quality of the food was good, and my main complaint is the potion size. I chose "Pollo al Limone con Spinachi" from the specials menu and was disappointed to find that this consisted of only a chicken breast in a lemon dressing with a few spinach leaves and some pine nuts, garnished with iceberg lettuce. I guess that's what the menu describes but for £11.95 I was expecting something a little more imaginative! Oh, and the "hot pot of sliced potatoes oven-baked with red onion and sunblush tomatoes" was tiny and had a jagged broken handle. The red wine that we ordered was lovely but a lot warmer than room temperature. We guessed that it had perhaps been stored cooler and then warmed up a little too much, immediately prior to being served. Overall it was a pleasant experience and although the food was nice nobody felt that Zizzi offered value for money or an extra special experience to justify its prices. Hong Kong Wok (Heeley) - Kerry Thomas - 13th August 2010

Hong Kong Wok had a nice atmosphere, very casual. The food was great, served in a good amount of time. I had a seafood linguine, and was amazed at the size of the seafood itself. We were a very large group, and the staff were efficient enough to realise the table we were on would be a little uncomfortable for us all the sit on, so made up a table along the middle of the room. We had a great night and will be going again. Marco at Milano (Millhouses) - Emma - 9th August 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
I just wanted to make it clear to everyone reading this that Marco @ Milano is indeed a lovely place to eat, despite one haughty reviewer's comments on this site. I read the comments of other diners on this website before I went, and I wholly agree with the positive reviews. The service was excellent: my wine glass was refilled discreetly for me, food arrived promptly, and a chap who I took to be the owner even came out to check that we were enjoying ourselves. We were! I would highly recommend the salmon and asparagus pasta for starter - just lovely. I had a gorgeous chocolate pudding for dessert. We all really enjoyed our food. I tend not to notice the interior of most restaurants (I'm usually too focused on my plate!), but this place felt special. The entrance is very spacious and looks through to the terrace - a great welcome which made me feel like I was walking into a taverna abroad. Highly recommended. Hope to go back for another special occasion. Hong Kong Wok (Heeley) - Laura - 9th August 2010

We booked a table in advance as there were 10 of us and everybody enjoyed their night! The food is delicious and affordable. The waitresses were very helpful and the atmosphere is vibrant and friendly. I would recommend the crispy duck, it's beautiful mmm... my mouth is watering now. Silversmiths Restaurant & Bar (City Centre) - J Sherwin - 5th August 2010
Rating: (Not rated - review added before star ratings introduced.)
It has been some time since I last visited Silversmiths but the food is every bit as good as on previous occasions I had loin of venison as a main course, which was possibly the best I have ever had. It was so tender you could have fed it to a baby. My wife had the sea bass linguine - a first for her- but equally enjoyable. The service and ambiance helped to make it a very special evening.
