What a disappointment! The service was poor and our waitress was slow and quite rude when I complained that my starter hadn't arrived.
I ordered goats cheese and pepper cannelloni for my main course with a tomato and onion side salad. The cannelloni looked like a cheap microwave meal and the portion was very small. The tomato salad came in something not much bigger that an egg cup!
I ordered a desert of rhubarb crumble, absolutely disgusting, I couldn't eat it.
All in all it's overpriced, the portions are too small and the staff are poor. I left hungry and I won't be going back.

We have been going to Vito's for at least 10 years and it just goes on getting better.
The changes that Vito sometimes makes to the menu improve it even more because he regularly introduces more authentic Italian dishes.
Vito is committed to providing ingredients of the highest standard, is willing to pay for quality food and this shows in the cooking.
The last time we went we had fresh porcini mushrooms, which were wonderful. I had them cooked with tagliatelle in a light sauce; a friend had them as a starter cooked with garlic.
We have eaten at Vito's once a week for 10 years and feel that going elsewhere for Italian food is a waste of time. Vito and his staff are excellent hosts who always make you feel welcome. We have never had food there that is anything but excellent.

Absolutely the best Indian food I've ever eaten. After speaking to some of the wait staff they informed me that they're in the top 100 restaurants for Indian food out of 9,000 or something. Quite rightly so, fresh tasting food full stop. Never eaten anything quite like it!

The food is okay, but if you're drunk it's a treat. Those who are well acquainted with Lebanese food will realise that the food is rather bland. There is not much choice in the menu, as it all seems the same with small changes made but given different names. It was also expensive for what it was.

FANTASTIC, there's nothing like it. I've been to nearly every Indian, Kashmiri and Bangladeshi restaurant in Sheffield, but Jumeirah is the one for us.
It's only been open 2 months. My wife, Linda, and I tried it out in August. It was busy on a Friday night and when we went back the following Friday we were refused. We tried to book a table for 6 the following Friday but they told us that they were fully booked. We eventually booked for Saturday night instead. It was superb, all the food was cooked from fresh in front of us in the open-plan kitchen that they have.
You can take your own drinks and they don't even charge a corkage fee. Fantastic decor, fantastic food, excellent service. Try it and trust me you will not go anywhere else.

For my birthday my husband and I went to this pub restaurant for a meal. Although the food was well cooked, the presentation was not good and we were kept waiting although they were not busy. Although the menu said that all meals were served with vegetables and potatoes I had to go to the bar to ask for them after we had had our main dish a while.
Also, if I were them I would not keep people waiting for long, as it gives you time to look around. We were in the conservatory and the green drapes above our heads were dirty and covered in dead flies and the plants on the windowsill were dead and the windowsill could have done with a wash.
I am sorry to say we did not wait to have a second course but came home very disappointed. We will not be going back.

This is our little 'bolt hole', with nicely cooked food at reasonable prices. There is a wonderful atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are always ready to make alterations to the dishes to suit individual tastes. For a combination of atmosphere, staff, food and prices this little gem takes some beating.

UK Mama African Restaurant (Broomhill) - Grant - 1st October 2006

I was part of a group of 11 celebrating a birthday in UK Mama in September 2006. The charismatic owner recommended a buffet, which was only £15 per head for starter, main, pudding and coffee. There was a varied mix of tasty dishes that included a lot of vegetarian options. There was plenty of it, and we washed it down with the cheapest house wine that I have ever seen £6.50! It tasted fine and at that price we ordered quite a few. The pudding was a massive plate of fresh fruit, cream and ice cream that we all helped ourselves to.
After the meal the owner gave each of us a musical instrument (drums, percussion, a Xylophone etc..) and taught us how to play a rhythmic tune. A few more bottles of house red and then the limbo dancing started. The last person left at 1.30AM (we started at 9PM) and he wanted us to stay longer. There is certainly no danger of being ushered out at 11PM
If you want to try some good value African food, drink cheap wine and end your evening with a really different sort of entertainment then you must try this. It was a great laugh.

Couldn't disagree more with the previous reviewer! Overpriced, average servings? The restaurant is ALWAYS full with so many different kinds of people! The food is always of good standard & very tasty. The waiters are helpful and polite but BUSY. I'm not saying Mangla is Nirmals Restaurant, but neither is the price! Don't let the previous reviewer put you off! Overall: good food reasonably priced.

We'd been told this restaurant was fantastic value for money, as well as being excellent food. My husband and I went with our four children early Saturday evening and were very disappointed.
The food was mediocre, the serving sizes average and the service appalling. It was also more expensive than our local Indian.
One of my children waited the whole meal to get a drink of orange juice, despite going to the counter several times. We took wine, but had to drink it out of tumblers. The waiters avoided eye contact in case you asked them for something.
I would however recommend the mango lassi, which we'd never come across before and was delicious.

If I had gone to this restaurant for my very first Italian meal I would have said I really don 't like Italian food, as it was the worst ever. However, as Italian is my favourite food, I just have to comment on this restaurant to make people aware of how bad it was...
I ordered mussels for starter and they came without the shell and it took about 5 minutes to chew your way through each one (over cooked). The sauce they came in was terrible. Then the main course sauce tasted like it came out of a packet mix, nothing fresh about it whatsoever. For the main course (veal) you could only have chips and salad, no veggies or potatoes, which I would normally have. The service was really poor too as it took us about half an hour before they even asked us what we would like to drink never mind another 20 minutes to order the food and a further 30 minutes for it to arrive at the table. I wouldn't have minded if there were lots of people in.
All in all this was a very poor restaurant - what a waste of money!

Crystal (City Centre) - Victoria - 7th September 2006

I used to really enjoy going to Crystal in the city centre. Sure, it was over-priced but the food was great and I generally felt pleasantly spoilt being there.
However, not the case this time. They have recently changed the menu beyond recognition so that there was hardly anything appealing (and only 1 vegetarian main course, may I add). I asked one of the dishes to be altered slightly for me, but the staff were very unhelpful, muttering something about things having already been prepared (I almost wondered whether they came pre-packaged). Moreover, when the main course did arrive it looked more like a starter, plus the chicken I had was absolutely bone dry! Of course to top it all off we paid a stonking amount of money for it and left so hungry that ended up with a second dinner down the pub! Not something I've ever had to do before.
A real shame, as it used to be one of my favourite places for a special dining experience.

The professionalism and superb hospitality that you all provided in the organising, planning and smooth running of our wedding luncheon was absolutely perfect.
The expertise and skills of such helpful and enthusiastic staff along with the genuine friendly hospitality that each of you provide is what makes Vito's so very special.
The very idea of a light Italian luncheon proved a success beyond all expectations for both ourselves as a newly married couple and our friends and families. Many later praised both the standard of food and service along with the general restaurant's warm friendly and cosy atmosphere.
Your helpful and enthusiastic approach was so very much appreciated and Vito's is a place that you should all feel proud to be part of. Nobody could have done it better.

Last night my jaded view of Italian cuisine was turned on its head, as I enjoyed probably the best Italian meal I have ever had, stylishly presented and served with skill and good humour.
No stereotypical pizza place, this, but a dazzling array of fine, fresh and sumptuous fare. Plenty of choice for all tastes, and several vegetarian dishes on the menu. My partner started with the seafood platter, while I went for smoked swordfish on a bed of rocket (both excellent). Main courses were escallopes of fillet steak, and a beautifully succulent calf's liver in a parsley, garlic and marsala sauce. Many a good main course is let down by the accompanying vegetables, but here they were perfectly prepared and presented.
The dessert menu is full of photographed delights, suggesting that Vito concentrates most of his considerable efforts on starters and main courses, but seek an you shall find the home-made tiramisu (lovely!) and syllabubs prepared to order.
Vito's is known for its extensive reserve wine list, but we stuck to the ordinary one this time (!). The house white went well as an aperitif and to accompany our starters, light, dry and smooth. To go with the main course, a 2000 Malbech - soft, rounded and lightly oaked, and a fair price at around £22.
It was nice to see Vito himself come out to talk to the diners after he'd finished in the kitchen; together with the other staff, he succeeded in making us feel welcome, comfortable and valued. An excellent evening; we'll be back again soon!

After reading great reviews from this web site we decided to try it out. What a good find - extremely polite and prompt service without being too pushy. Good choice of Italian, Spanish and Mexican food at a reasonable price. The food we ordered was excellent, will definitely go back and recommend to others. Great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming.

I would like to review the food but did not have a chance to taste it. After waiting over three quarters of an hour and 2 people coming in after me and being served I went to see where my food was, only to be told the order had not gone in. An apology was not offered or any type of remuneration and no one seemed to be bothered. So I asked for my money back and left never to return.

Very small, family run restaurant. The food is exceptional. I have visited a few times now and enjoyed it every time. Choice of food is excellent and price is reasonable, would highly recommend.

I read on their website before going that they are Michelin aspiring and been quoted as one of the top 50 restaurants in the UK by national food papers 'The Observer' and has a great review on their website by The Independent critic Caroline Stacey. How many other restaurants in the region get this type of professional review... So with great interest after reading the spiel on the website and being recommended by a close friend and local critic, in fact my mouth was watering at the fact. I went on a Tuesday evening mid August, it was full, and always a good sign... and they have live jazz on Tuesdays also which added to a wonderful atmosphere.
Starter
I had Buckwheat Bellini with smoked salmon at £8.25, what an amalgamation of flavours the sour cream and horse radish just set it off and balanced the dish. The salmon you could tell very fresh a lovely rich colour- great start!
Main course
I went for something that's not on the normal restaurant menu such as steak or something covered in more sauce than I would care for... so plumped for celebration of rabbit at £18.75, this was delightful, organic feed rabbit served with tastes and flavours other chefs couldn't even dream of, Madeira and truffle Jus with mushroom Polenta. Wow... Can't you just tell Nick Wilson has worked with the best and certainly has the French influence of Jean Christophe Novelli.
My partner only ever has a main dish as his appetite is not big; he went for the Sea Trout and absolutely loved it.

As strawberries are at prime at this moment, it had to be the strawberries at £6.95, honey basket and ice cream - even the ice cream tasted delightful and balanced my meal off perfectly!

The menu is organic has a great selection of dishes for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten sufferers and you get he table for the whole evening so wonderful value at just over £35 per head, including wine.
This will get a Michelin star, I doubt that it will be in their first year as they ambitiously aim for, but on my experiences definitely will if they keep this standard! For definite, the best restaurant in the region!
