Taste (Hunters Bar) - Frank Jones 25/8/2005
Wow! I have been to this place quite a lot; in fact you could call me a regular. Very fond of it. The bacon and sausages are always of the highest quality, as are the eggs. The proprietor Jamie Bosworth strives for perfection.

A 5 star brekkie caff, although the last time my eggs were just a little overdone and needed to be a little more over easy time please.

I must complain about this restaurant and warn people! The food is mediocre, but what bothered me was that they didn't give us any tap water when we asked them for it. The waitress told us that on the menu, it is clearly shown that they don't give free water... Thanks for reading my petty complaint but I had to say something...

KumQuat Mae (Nether Edge) - Liz McManus 10/8/2005
This veggie restaurant provided a tasty menu for both meat eaters and non-meaters alike. The menu is updated to keep regular customers interested. The atmosphere is a cosy, relaxed and easy going. The cost per head is good value for the amount of food you get.

Ask Pizza & Pasta (City Centre) - Lydia Thompson 8/7/2005
A group of us went to ASK Pizza & Pasta for my hen party, and we had a really great time. The food was excellent, no complaints from any of us fussy eaters! The lighting also made for a really nice atmosphere, and on top of all that it was very reasonably priced!

Cubana (City Centre) - Ben Foulds 14/6/2005
This restaurant came highly recommended to me from various people, and not wanting to miss out, I decided it was time to sample the taste of Spain at this ideally placed restaurant just on the edge of the city centre.

The initial welcome was warm and the layout inviting. The service was initially very good, however, once the food came it was down hill from there. We had a Tapas set menu as recommended which came in stages, which I can understand as it was lots of small portions. I was quite surprised that the rice accompaniment came just as we were finishing our meal though.

Once finished we waited just under half an hour for our table to be cleared, and even then she did it in two stages with a fifteen minute gap. It then took a further fifteen minutes to order some drinks which we eventually went up to the bar to order as our waitress seemed intent on spending the rest of the evening speaking to some regulars who were frequenting the area near the bar.

As our long awaited drinks finally arrived, to top the evening off, the tea had lipstick marks around the rim. These were quite clear despite the waitress deciding to hold it up to the light and look puzzled upon our request to take it away and not bother with a replacement.

Notice how the previous review did not mention the food, this is maybe because it was bland, uninteresting and in some cases just plain bad. I wish this was a better experience for us as it's nice to know restaurants that are just that bit different and exciting, but unfortunately this was far from an exciting evening. If you want good food and something a bit different, steer clear of here and get to WasabiSabi.

This is a small friendly Italian restaurant. My partner and I have eaten here quite a few times now and loved every meal. They do something to suite every palate: pasta, chicken, prawns you name it they do it.

We have never managed a pudding, as we are that full from the main meal. I would fully recommend this place to anyone who wants a nice quiet night out with friendly staff to wait on you.

Cunninghams (City Centre) - Alexander Harris 29/3/2005
Lovely, old fashioned hotel dining. The room is beautiful in a Victorian style, high ceilings and general design. The food was very good and the service attentive but not over bearing. The bill for two of us was just over £50 with wine and good value for money. There was plenty of parking, which is rare in town nowadays. Would recommend for a special occasion or romantic dinner.

Ma Potters (Meadowhall Shopping Centre) - Carolyn Horbury 16/3/2005
Whilst over in England visiting family we went to Meadowhall and had lunch at Ma Potters. We were greeted at the door and shown to a table. Our order was promptly taken even though the place was packed out. We waited 20 minutes for our order, which is well within the waiting time for main course. It was beautiful I could not fault the meal or the service at all. I cannot wait for my next visit to England and Ma Potters.

Mediterranean (Sharrow) - Howard Beattie 24/12/2004
I have, at long last, found a wonderful place to take my daughters to eat freshly prepared, wholesome food. The fish deserves a special mention. It has always been cooked to perfection and I recommend the Turbot or Brill without hesitation. The front of house welcome and service have always been of a high standard.

La Vida Loca (Hillsborough) - Suz 13/12/2004
Each time I visit La Vida Loca it gets better and better. The food is spot on and the service is excellent. It has a brilliant atmosphere. The food is presented in a really attractive way, and the plates and tableware are colourful and make the food even more attractive. 10/10 for this restaurant, it never fails to impress! You must try it.

Viva Tequila (Gleadless) - Claire 9/11/2004
What an excellent restaurant. We have been as a couple and as part of a party, and each time the atmosphere is great, staff wonderful and friendly, and the food is fantastic. We can't get enough of the place!

Chez La Lou (Steel Bank) - Nat 8/11/2004
This French restaurant is fab. It's only small but the food is out of this world. You don't need to order a starter because you get so many complimentary bits to try, from chicken wings in the most delicious of marinades to a mixture of French breads. The lobster is delicious too, and well worth a try. You also get dishes full of potatoes and vegetables served with your main course. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and they make your time there very pleasant. My husband and I can't wait to go again to try something else on the menu. Book early as this restaurant gets booked weeks in advance.

Baan Thai (City Centre) - Sarah Brisco 8/11/2004
We went there on Saturday evening for the very first time. As with anywhere good, booking is essential. There are 100 seats in a very beautifully decorated restaurant. The food and the service were fantastic. We were both spoilt for choice and it was very good value for money.

However there was one downfall: we booked for 9:30PM and when we were walking up to the restaurant we could see a large number of people outside. I assumed the fire alarm had gone off. It turned out that the 30 or so people outside were queuing to get in, as they too had booked for 9:30PM. It took 45 minutes for us to be seated. It was 11:45 when we left the restaurant and therefore we had to flag a taxi down to get home as the buses had stopped running. Made the night out unduly expensive. We will go again but try an earlier time.

La Scala (Millhouses) - Karen Vardey 25/10/2004
Appalling; wouldn't recommend anyone to ever eat there. The fresh tuna was tinned and the waiter didn't deny it, the veggie main course contained fish, but the waiter said it was a mushroom, since when have mushrooms ever tasted of fish? The mixed seafood risotto contained prawns, and the rice was hard.

We received no apology from the waiter or the manager, and thoroughly disappointed in the service and food.

Mediterranean (Sharrow) - Sallianne 14/9/2004
The Mediterranean is a gem of a restaurant that Sheffield has hidden. Booking advisable as very popular and you'll know why once you have visited. A taxi is advised, as parking can be a problem. Even though the restaurant was extremely busy the service did not falter one bit.

A small fronted restaurant, but do not let this put you off. An extremely un-stuffy atmosphere where smart-but-casual is adequate rather than a suit. A pre-drink seating area whilst looking over the extensive menu. A large blackboard adorns one wall where daily specials are listed in abundance. My husband and I then opted for the lobster, where the manager asked if we would like to pick our live lobster ourselves. Declining his invitation we said that his choice would be fine. What magnificent lobsters and presentation. I cannot fault this restaurant in the slightest and I have eaten in many as well as having owned restaurants.

After finishing our huge meal we called over the manager to notify him of our delight and to inform him that in fact we had only been married a week and this was a highlight. The manager suddenly disappeared and came out with two chilled glasses of champagne to toast our marriage. I could go on and on, if you are visiting Sheffield for whatever reason or passing through, do stop and sample the 5-star cuisine at this very under-stated restaurant. We intend to go to the away match later this year, not only to see Bristol City hopefully win but to stay overnight just to sample this cuisine and lovely atmosphere again. Do go.

Little India (Gleadless) - Sandra Malby 4/8/2004
Little India at Gleadless Townend is one of the best and authentic eateries outside of Bradford. Very small but pleasant, attentive staff, always willing to accommodate dishes not printed on the menu. Very good portion sizes (I always have to have a doggy bag and there's enough for the next day). The quality and flavours are exceptional. So nice not to have to go into town or out of town to find a very good curry!!

The delivery service is great, you are told a time and so far it has been delivered at that time, piping hot and at reasonable prices.

Try the chicken tikka saag (not on the menu).

Alfie and Bella Pizza (City Centre) - Eleanor Tate 24/7/2004
This is a lovely little place and I had the most tasty pizza I think I've ever had, with roast peppers, red onion, olives and rosemary. We also had the day's special, a pasta salad with goat's cheese, fresh basil and tomato, which was gorgeous. Now I've found it I will be returning and can strongly recommend it for lunch - really friendly staff, too.

Candytown Chinese Restaurant (Heeley) - Jim Jones 2/7/2004
Excellent Chinese food at a reasonable price. I go there regularly and the staff are always pleasant. Quite a big place, so if you go between 6-7PM you don't need to reserve a table and it's usually fairly quiet. Children are also welcome.

Las Iguanas (City Centre) - Harrier 20/5/2004
Very disappointing.

I was part of a party of 12 and I thought the food and drink were overpriced and the service poor. They obviously struggle to handle large parties (and it was only a week night), as there was a big delay between the starters and the main courses arriving. Many of the main courses had obviously been left under some kind of lamp-heater for a while and were lukewarm. The refried beans had developed a 'nice' skin, too!

My starter was meant to be garlic-bread covered in melted cheese and refried beans. I could have made the same dish at home for about 50p. Most the bread was soft, I couldn't taste the garlic and there was only a slither of cheese on the thing.

Main course portions were poor. My Pollo Burrito was very uninspiring and tasteless.

On a good note, the house white wine was nice.

It annoys me when so-called 'trendy restaurants' get away with serving poor food, and live off the fact they have a designer interior. 10% service charge was added because of our large party. Unfortunately, we paid it.

Alfie and Bella Pizza give an excellent service. Always up for friendly chat, and the food is excellent, especially the hot Paninis, which come with a great choice of fillings.
