An excellent pace to eat. We took our 3 children and the staff were brilliant with them, they even suggested bringing the children's main courses with our starters so that they didn't get restless. Great food, great atmosphere and great music. Also like the fact that you can either book or just turn up and their options for each. Will definitely go back. Jinnah (Ecclesfield) - Lauren Walsh - 10th May 2011

I visited Jinnah in Ecclesfield at the weekend in a party of 4. We had booked in advance so although the restaurant was reasonably full we were seated immediately. A drinks menu arrived promptly and although they had no draught beer (there was a problem with the pumps that night) there was still a reasonable choice of bottled beers and wine. We ordered drinks and were brought food menus soon afterwards. Jinnah has an extensive menu ranging from "delicate / mild" dishes to the more spicy alternatives. The menu provides chef's recommendations and explanations of each dish. The food arrived reasonably quickly and was all piping hot. Everyone enjoyed their meals and could find no fault with the quality nor quantity. The bill arrived shortly after we had finished eating, which is perhaps why we had been told by other people that they had felt a little rushed. This was not a problem for us, as we finished our drinks at our own pace before paying. The price for 4 people, each having a starter and a main, plus 4 bottles of lager and a bottle of wine came to just over £84.

When you go to Chutney the food is always great and the staff are always friendly. I have never had a bad meal and have had several functions there and have always found the staff very accommodating.

We went this week to Portofinos restaurant to celebrate a family member's 21st birthday... and we were not disappointed ! Beautiful, clean, modern restaurant with an ample bar and seating area as you step into the restaurant, with comfy settees and chairs. We were warmly greeted at the door and from that moment on were treated with a first-class service. The table was large and roomy (great as we had tall men in our party) and the background Italian music was lovely and gave it a great atmosphere. The waitress and the manager were exceptionally friendly and very polite, they let us decorate the table for the occasion, although the table was beautifully presented. The food was delicious. We ranged from salmon and tagliatelle to calzone/pizza. We all commented how tasty they were and we were not kept waiting too long. We could see the food being freshly cooked from the open kitchen, and the aromas were mouth watering. We all managed a sweet, even though the mains were a very large portion (they don't skimp in this restaurant). Bottle of wine and house lagers, the coffees after were lovely too. This just topped off a lovely evening. The prices are very good and I would recommend looking at the specials board. Altogether Portofino gave us a wonderful evening of celebrations and I would highly recommend to anyone. It has a lovely romantic feel to this place that would suit large parties or a romantic meal for two. Thank you so much we will be back.

Give this South Indian restaurant on London Road a big miss. I have unfortunately ventured there twice but have still not eaten a morsel there. The first time around we were shown to a table on the first floor with a really dirty table cloth and made to wait an hour-and-a-half with not even the starters in sight. The manager did not even have the decency to inform us or apologise. With a hungry and sleepy child in tow we had to leave without eating. After a lot of deliberation, I went to Dhanistha again for my wedding anniversary, as we wanted to sample South Indian food, and being curious to know if the service had improved at all, I booked a table for 3 people at 7PM. When we reached there, we were informed that our table was on the first floor. We asked for a table downstairs (going by our previous first floor experience) and they refused, even though there was a table for 4 free, and the restaurant was not particularly crowded. We even said that we would manage with a table for 2 with an extra chair. But they refused and we went upstairs to be seated next to a dirty window sill. We refused and asked to be sat downstairs (decent decor downstairs and there were actually people eating). The manager came and told us that we could sit downstairs but had to vacate within the hour, as they a reservation for a party of 4 at 8:30PM. We decided that enough was enough and left for the second time (with a crying, hungry child in tow). How can a party of 4 with a booking at 8:30PM take precedence over a party of 3 at 7PM? Also, how can a restaurant manager suggest that we vacate a table by a certain time. Again it could be excused if they were apologetic and a bit more professional. The restaurant business is about making money but it is also about customer service and Dhanistha couldn't care in the least if people came there or not. So do yourself a favour and find some place else to eat. Maranello's Italian Restaurant (Ecclesall) - Mr & Mrs Gascoigne - 7th May 2011

Excellent meal! Love, love, love! Date of review: 13th April 2011 Came here with my wife and two daughters - food was fresh, well presented and above all beautiful! The girls love pizzas and they don't get better than a Maranello's one! Staff were friendly and looked as if they enjoyed what they do. Overall very happy family day out! We will be returning soon. Canton Orchard (Ranmoor) - Sue - 4th May 2011
Rating:
I had a great experience at the Canton Orchard. The manager (what I can guess) that reviewers seem to have criticised I thought to be a very friendly, generous and charming man. The food arrived, and I thought it was delicious, I have been to many Chinese restaurants in Sheffield, as I love Chinese food. Yes the food here is more expensive than your usual ones in town, London Road, however I think it is worth it, as the quality of the food was second-to-none. It was truly delicious. I particularly loved the lobster, mmm could have it every day. The grounds that the Canton Orchard is set in are romantic and classy, great atmosphere. I recommend it to people, and think it is especially nice for occasions such as anniversary dinners, birthdays etc... maybe a special day if you can't afford to eat there every week, like me! Hehe! I came here on my birthday and they made a real effort to make it a truly wonderful day! Maybe these peeps caught the manager on a wrong day? Because the one I met did not seem to be anything like the one described! I really hope one/two of these reviews do not put people off coming to this restaurant, as it is me, my family and friends' favourite place and hope that people can enjoy it as much as we do! Cubana (City Centre) - Claire and David Simmonite - 3rd May 2011

We went on a Thursday, which was their Jazz and Swing night. Both the food and service were outstanding. We had a mixture of meat and veggie dishes - the 'recommended' selection is great value for money and a good way to try new things. They do a 'happy hour', which we used as an an excuse to sample several Latino beers and the extensive cocktail menu! All in all, a top night out. Mohul Tandoori Restaurant (Totley Brook) - Andrew Walters - 2nd May 2011
Rating:
Having been to all of the top rated Indian restaurants in Sheffield it had been quite some time since I last visited the Mohul. I can safely say that on this visit I would certainly put this in the top three. From start to finish I could not fault any of the dishes I chose. Everything tasted fresh, with just the right amount of spicing so as not to overpower the dish, which is a common fault in a lot of other restaurants. Highly recommended if you're in the south of Sheffield. Vito's Italian Restaurant (Walkley) - Hattie Hedgecock - 30th April 2011
Rating:
Really good food. Don't be put off by the massive menu, Vito can definitely pull it off. Really authentic food, great atmosphere, lovely staff. Wholeheartedly recommend Vito's for any occasion! 10/10! Browns (City Centre) - Lauren Walsh - 30th April 2011
Rating:
After hearing that Ha Ha Bar & Canteen had closed down and been replaced by Browns, we decided to try them for lunch. There is a menu on display outside and we could see that it was a little expensive but hoped that the food would justify the prices. The interior of Browns is minimalist and attractive. There were plenty of diners downstairs but we easily found a table upstairs, which was almost empty. Shortly after sitting down a waiter brought menus and gave us details of the dishes on the specials board. We both decided to go for the Browns burger, which at £9.95 has got to be at the top of the price range for a burger! The burger is advertised as coming with "celeriac coleslaw, pickle, red onion, tomato and crisp seasoned chips". The food arrived quickly and was hot. The portion sizes were average at best - you don't get a lot for your £9.95. They definitely didn't live up to our expectations. We both had hard chips, which left us asking whether they were frozen. The tomato was a single slice and the celeriac coleslaw was little more than a spoonful. The burger, although nice enough, was nothing special, either. The bill for 2 burgers and bottles of Leffe Blonde came to a little under £28. Although we couldn't fault the service and decor, the food was overpriced for what we got. We both thought that we could have had the same elsewhere for about half the price.

The food from here is always fantastic as long as you don't mind a 2-hour wait for a takeaway, after two phones calls to find out where my meal was, on one of these calls the phone was picked up and put straight down on me (very professional). If you visit the restaurant you can expect to wait 40 minutes plus between courses and witness staff running around like headless chickens. BUT your food will always be very nice. It is the worst-organised restaurant I have ever been to and feel that this will lose Chutney customers. I myself will not be returning and I know of several others that feel the same. Please get more staff and improve your organisation so that I can return. Cubana (City Centre) - Peter McDermott - 27th April 2011
Rating:
I have visited Cubana on a number of occasions in recent years and always enjoyed it, so I hired the venue for my 50th birthday party. 80+ people attended and we had an amazing night, the atmosphere, the food (deluxe buffet) and the music (50/50 split between salsa and commercial) were first-class. Free salsa lessons were thrown in by DJ Nicolai. Everyone (aged 16-60) danced until 1AM and commented it was the best party they had been to in years. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Would I recommend Cubana... YES 100%, a great venue for a party, whatever your age. Zeenat (Attercliffe) - Sharon and Matt - 25th April 2011
Rating:
We've tried a great number of Indian takeaways as our "once a week" treat. Nothing comes near this one. The standard is absolutely wonderful and the taste is authentic, not greasy and the particularly generous portions and excellent value for money. Many, many thanks Zeenat - we'll recommend you to ALL our friends. We'll be coming to try your infamous "buffet night" soon. Henry's (City Centre) - Lauren Walsh - 25th April 2011

My boyfriend and I ate at Henry's one Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago. From what we had heard they specialised in real ales and locally-sourced pub grub, so we were looking forward to a nice lunch. The place was fairly busy with a wide range of clientele from young couples and families to twentysomething lads watching the football. It took us a while to find a table upstairs, and there were few menus so my boyfriend had to go back down to the bar to ask for one. It was a warm day and our first impression (of the upstairs at least) was that they must have the heating on, as it was verging on the uncomfortably hot. Looking around we could tell that the current owners of Henry's have spent some money on doing the place up. However, whilst they've obviously spent money on fancy light fittings, the walls could still do with plastering and a lick of paint here and there! The choice on the menu was wide enough, and we both opted for burgers, which cost around £8.50 each. Prices seemed average for town, and a large Coca Cola cost £2.50. When my boyfriend ordered at the bar he was told that there would be a 30-minute wait for food, and that they had no eggs left. Lucky that our burgers didn't come with friend eggs, as with many of the other dishes! We weren't too bothered about the wait, but we did think that they couldd have had more staff on a Saturday lunchtime, as they should expect to be busy. Whilst we were waiting we noticed that they do serve quite a large range of real ales, with prices starting at £2.05 for Boddington's. The food arrived on time and was warm enough, though not what you could describe as hot. Portions were average again, with just enough but you probably wouldn't end up wasting any. Although we enjoyed our burgers they were nothing to write home about. We couldn't decide whether they were either very salty or whether the taste was some other seasoning. Credit where it's due though for using local beef. Overall the visit was OK. The food wasn't anything special and the prices were around the same as you'd pay at most places in town. You could get a similar burger, chips and a pint of real ale in a nearby Wetherspoon's for a lot less. We'd probably eat at Henry's again, but this time more out of interest in the range of real ales, with the food as an afterthought. One last thing that we noticed, rather tongue-in-cheek, was that although they use locally-sourced ingredients for their food, Henry's don't use cutlery from Sheffield! Aagrah (City Centre) - Adam Hodson - 24th April 2011
Rating:
Me and my fiancee recently visited Aagrah thinking (after reading reviews on here) that we were in for a horrible meal (we looked at the reviews after we had booked it!). However, it was fantastic! We were welcomed and taken to a table straight away and had our drinks and poppadoms ordered within 2 minutes of sitting down, even though it was obviously busy. There was an enormous range of food to choose from and we were spoilt for choice, which is rare for vegetarians! The food was delicious and had very generous portions. The waiters were always at hand to check if we wanted more drinks when we were empty and felt very looked after. Overall a very good Indian restaurant and would definitely go there again. Swanky Frank's (Woodseats) - Tonia Bagnoli - 19th April 2011
Rating:
Tried Swanky Franks a few times now and love it! Me and my friends have had some lovely nights out there! The burgers are unbelievable - so juicy and fresh! The menu has great variety and so far we have not been disappointed with anything we have ordered! I would definitely recommend the chicken wings to start with! Overall a lovely restaurant in Woodseats, great value and also very good if you have children! Cubana (City Centre) - Vincent Dalton - 19th April 2011
Rating:
Cubana is our favourite tapas restaurant! The food is delicious and the variety and value makes us go back week after week (especially the meatballs!). We also love the live music and often have a boogie, the atmosphere is lively but also very chilled. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for lovely food, very friendly staff and a great night out! BB's Italian Restaurant (City Centre) - Peter Wright - 17th April 2011
Rating:
Was advised to go to BB's by a friend but will never go again. Food was ordinary and service was terrible. If you want a nice evening don't go to BB's. Blue Moon Cafe (City Centre) - Elaine Burke - 15th April 2011
Rating:
Really lovely welcoming cafe. The food is something else, the fruit scones and homemade jams are amazing. Spoilt for choice at lunchtime. Highly recommended cafe. More reviews:
