Appalling! I found a worm in my Caesar salad and the manager refused to do anything about it. They did not even apologise! They did not offer me another dish, with the excuse that I had already consumed half. They blamed the salad worm on their suppliers. They did not even offer a refund! Avoid at all costs unless you like little green worms in your Caesar salad!
La Vida Loca (Hillsborough) - Craig Day 18/7/2006
PERFECT!!!! Excellent food at great prices, this is a lovely little intimate restaurant with very friendly staff. La Vida Loca is great for romantic nights out or group parties. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. ***** Exchange Bar & Grill (City Centre) - Suzanne Tinker 14/7/2006
My partner and I went to this restaurant mid-week and had the two meals for £7 each. We ordered quesadillas and stuffed potato skins and chicken and beef enchiladas. The food was dire and to be honest it tasted like it had just come out of Iceland's freezer section. The quacamole quesadillas had no fillings hardly and were dry and tasteless. The potato skins greasy bland and again tasted like they were frozen previously. The main course the chicken and beef enchiladas were the worst we have tasted... again dry, over microwaved and bland. A huge blob of sour cream to top it off and some pickled red cabbage which again was bland. It was a real shame, as the restaurant decor is lovely... we were hoping we had found a good eaterie but alas... another case of all show and no punch!! Ambience 8/10 Food 1/10 Bosworth's at Bramall Lane (Highfield) - Bill Green 29/6/2006
Bosworth's at Bramall Lane opened earlier this year and is based at Sheffield United Football Club. It has quickly become a new favourite and now competes strongly with other city establishments like 543 and Thyme Cafe for my spend. It does however have advantages over these. The restaurant, run by a small team including Jamie Bosworth, serves dinner and Sunday lunches but within a short time has also extended to weekday lunches. They also offer bespoke dining and superb canapes. Its location at Bramall Lane makes it convenient and easy to access and offers plenty of free parking right outside. I have taken friends, family, colleagues and clients there and we always leave feeling totally satisfied. The staff have worked hard on the atmosphere and ambience - since the first week it opened they have gradually transformed it into a sophisticated, elegant dining experience - and there's also a great bar to relax in before and after the meal. For those people thinking it's at a football club and that's not the place for fine dining - look beyond that notion. It really works as a first class restaurant but also as a suitable venue for a lunch date - business or pleasure. The restaurant focuses on providing high quality modern British cuisine using a seasonal menu with daily specials. The team often prepare specials. They also offer bespoke menus for private dining in the restaurant. Above all my experience has been they are never too busy to satisfy the customer's needs. The food is always superb. I've been a fan of Jamie for a while - his Taste restaurant in Hunters Bar takes a lot of beating for breakfasts. His food is classy and his combinations are unusual but so right. The menu changes on a regular basis and offers a good choice - in fact too good sometimes - you struggle to choose just which starter, main course or dessert to have. As a long-standing meat eater I am even swayed by his vegetarian options. He uses local products from local suppliers, a great touch and something more restaurants should focus on. The wine list is both extensive and reasonably priced. Jamie's desserts also have a city-wide reputation and his assiette of desserts and his legendary bread and butter pudding are both hot favourites. Prices for a three-course table d'hote meal range at around £23-28 during the week, with Sunday lunch at £18. Children's discounts are available on Sunday. What is also clear on a visit, is that Jamie has a strong team behind him - both in the kitchen and front of house. Manager Helen and assistant manager Kelly are both attentive and knowledgeable about food, wine and interaction with customers. The bar staff are courteous and polite. Both Jamie and Lee, the head chef, interact with customers about the food - I feel this adds to the experience. Bosworth's pride themselves on quality food and first class service. It is the perfect place for dinner or lunchtime dining. Dam House Bar and Restaurant (Crookesmoor) - Carol 29/6/2006
Initially hard to find as it's along a cobbled, one-way side street and only signposted once you are there. There was no atmosphere, possibly due to lack of customers, but the staff were nice. The food was expensive, i.e. just over £9 for a steak sandwich, side salad and J2O juice. I ordered a very well done steak, which came rare and got returned. What I found in my side salad (!!!!) sent me returning the salad back faster than the speed of light and cancelling the sandwich altogether!!! I got a refund and the offer of a free drink for my friend and me. My friend paid £5.50 for a small wrap that was only 1/2 filled with cream cheese, salmon and mackerel. There is some parking, but I doubt that there would be enough for the evening clientele. There is a patio and view over the boating lake. Walnut Club (Hathersage) - Chris and Helen 28/6/2006
Hadn't been here before but wanted to try it for ages as we'd heard such good things about it! We ordered mid-week lunch of watercress and spinach soup - absolutely the best I've ever tasted anywhere. Also vegetable gallette and salade nicoise with seared tuna. The portions were not over-generous at the price, but were definitely good quality in appearance. Some delicious organic vegetables were used but the taste of the tomatoes suggested that they may not have been. I've also never had salade nicoise without the key ingredient of anchovies, which was a little disappointing. The worst aspect was the service, which was indifferent at best. We expected better from what we'd heard. Verdict: I hope the Walnut Club won't rely on reputation alone and that our visit was not typical. If we find it is then we shan't return, as life is short, food is good and there are lots of other places to try instead! Butlers Balti House (City Centre) - Julie 27/6/2006
I have never tasted such fresh food before. Not probably, but definitely the best place in Sheffield. Well modernised and air conditioned as well.
Antibo (City Centre) - Maddy Arden-Armitage 23/6/2006
VERY poor. We had a huge wait for totally overdone starters (to the extent that mine was difficult to cut into and my husband's roll was burnt on the underside) and then during our wait for the main courses we were told that the last swordfish which I had been promised by the waiter had been given to someone else. We left after the starters... and will never return. Shapla Tandoori Restaurant (City Centre) - Claire 11/6/2006
I can honestly say that I have eaten some of the best Indian food at Shapla, the service is impeccable and the food, everything you could expect and more. I visit the restaurant frequently and will continue to do so! The extensive menu is impressive and should you not find what you are looking for - the chef will be more than happy to make it for you. The atmosphere is fantastic - the music, lighting and setting all make for the finest dining experience. Well done to the staff and no doubt I will be seeing them all again in the near future. Mediterranean (Sharrow) - Ian Whincup 9/6/2006
Having heard / read only good things about this place, myself and the future wife decided to give it a go. We both love dining out, trying out new places, and so we booked a table for two on Saturday night at 7PM. From the moment we got there, the staff were very polite and attentive, and even at this early hour, the place filled up pretty quick. We got a nice table by the door and so ordered a drink and nibbled on the olives, which were so tasty. They were prepared with orange and lemon zest and garlic. Mmmmm. And so to the meal... After discussing the menu with the waiter, who was very knowledgeable about all the dishes we asked, I decided on a starter of scallops with turbot for mains. My partner went for monkfish kebabs to start and the halibut for main. Well, the kebabs were good, very good in fact, but the scallops were absolutely sensational. They were cooked to perfection and were so sweet and juicy, they literally disintegrated in my mouth. They were served with a crisp salad and balsamic dressing. So good. For the mains, my partner went for halibut. Once again, very good indeed. However for the second time that night my course blew hers out of the water. You MUST MUST MUST try the turbot. It was an absolute taste sensation. A meaty white fillet of the tastiest fish, served on mashed potatoes with the most amazing creamy saffron sauce. (My mouth is watering as I type this.) This was washed down with a very reasonable bottle of house red. TEN OUT OF TEN. In summary, do your taste buds a favour and book a table ASAP. Bosworth's at Bramall Lane (Highfield) - Joanne Richardson 1/6/2006
Although it is in quite an unusual location, I can honestly say that my recent meal was the best food I have ever had in Sheffield. It was so fresh, there was a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and all the guests in my party had a great time. I cannot recommend this venue highly enough. Beautiful food.
Ask Pizza & Pasta (City Centre) - S Gould 30/5/2006
On the 2nd night of our stay we plumped for Ask Pizza & Pasta. We had eaten at La Gondola the night before which was quite good. In short, service was slow, but the food was OK. What topped it off was when we left a tip within the cheque we used to pay for the meal. The Waitress came and told us that if we were going to dine there again, do not put the tip on the cheque, make it out for the amount on the bill. So, guess what? We will not be eating there again and in truth it spoilt the night! La Gondola (City Centre) - S Gould 30/5/2006
Our first night in Sheffield was a Bank Holiday and the only place we could find close to our hotel was La Gondola. Don't be put off by the decor, the food is really good and an average place. Yes, it could do with a lick of paint and a new carpet, but the staff were friendly and the service was good, too. P.S. Go round the corner to Yates , as the same bottle of wine is £8.50 there instead of £13.50! El Paso (City Centre) - katie Dunn 30/5/2006
After reading the good reviews on this page I booked my hen night for 30 of us. I can say that I had a brilliant time and that the food and service were exceptional. We continued the party in the upstairs function room and danced salsa. They even put some Abba on for us. Service was very friendly and always with a smile.
Cubana (City Centre) - Gavin 16/5/2006
I went here for a friend's birthday, the initial welcome is OK but a little rushed (in fact I felt loomed over the whole time I was eating). The food, well I won't spend long describing this. Too much garlic to disguise the fact it was bland and over expensive. The wrong things were delivered to our table. The bill was wrong and the waitresses were rude. There was absolutely no table service for dinks once you are eating, and the food took forever to come. The worst eating experience of my life. Cerrone's (Ecclesfield) - Julie 14/5/2006
The worse Italian we have ever had. The pizzas were far too thick, the volcano pizza contained ordinary green peppers, where was the fire? The only person who would have been impressed with the calzone would be Popeye, as it had so much spinach in the filling. The spare rib starter was fatty and covered in far too much sauce. The most tasteless experience I have ever encountered. We live locally but will venture afar in future to avoid it.
La Gondola (City Centre) - Janette 14/5/2006
Definitely worth a visit! We booked a party of 14 on a Wednesday evening, arrived at the restaurant and were greeted by very friendly staff who promptly showed us to our table. All the food was excellent and served in a timely manner. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I would definitely book a meal here again in the near future!
Walnut Club (Hathersage) - Robert Todd 12/5/2006
Wonderful, sumptuous, outstanding, delicious, mouth-watering, such flavour, great service, beautiful surroundings, great choice! I thought it quicker to say all that than waffle on, I'm sure you get the gist!!! Needless to say I dine out a few times a week. Why had I not heard about this place before, Sheffield's best-kept secret...? The live music fitted the beautiful decor and isn't it just great when you can sit back and relax with your partner, glad I dressed up!!! I looked at my watch at 11PM and realized I had been there over 3hours... no way can I typically sit in a place that long. Great to see they only sell the table once a night, other restaurants should follow suit! You really wouldn't want to go anywhere else after this! Noodle Inn (Highfield) - Shirley Chapman 19/4/2006
Excellent and fast service. Tasty and freshly prepared Chinese food. Usually full of Chinese eaters - always a good sign! Large portions... Definitely worth a visit if you're in need of fast sustenance!
I visited Rowsha in Walkley this week and was very impressed. The food is outstanding. I had a lamb dish, which was delicious, and my girlfriend, a vegetarian, raved about her stuffed pepper. The service is good and the staff are very friendly. It is a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit... Highly recommended. More reviews:
