My wife and I visited on Saturday 11th February. We have visited several times before for Sunday lunch and have enjoyed the food. But on this visit things were different.

On ordering the steak burger I was informed there was no coleslaw, which was to accompany the burger and chips. So I decided to have the steak and vegetable pie and chips instead. My wife had the lamb casserole with mash.

The food finally arrived around 40 minutes later. What a disappointment. The steak pie was very nice, not sure where the vegetables were. The chunky chips were very nice, as long as you are not very hungry, there were 7 of them. But what was more disappointing was the lack of vegetables on the plate, it just did not look like a meal and was certainly not filling, and at just short of £10 was certainly not value for money.

My wife's stew was served with mashed potatoes but there was so much gravy, the mash just turned to mush. Not very appealing.

We gave our comments to the waitress, who was apologetic and said that they had inherited the menu, but how much would it cost to put a few vegetables on the plate? She did offer a free drink but we had driven there and already had more to drink than we would normally have due to waiting so long for the food. So We declined.

All in all this was a very dissapointing meal and would not recommend at all.

I did email the Mustard Pot directly. But with no reply so far.

Went in November 2011. It had changed hands again in October 2011. We have been here before and had very pleasant experiences. We had invited another four people as our guests on the strength of it. Oh dear... service.

While the waitress was very pleasant, she was struggling a little. When the person, who I guess is the owner, came out to help it turned Fawlty-esque.

We were kept waiting around 30 minutes between courses and asked if we'd had our sweet yet, while still waiting for the main course! When the food did come it was generally well cooked, although having ordered game pie (advertised as coming with vegetables) it came only with a few "chunky chips". When I asked where the veg was I was told "The chef says the pie has veg in it". When I pointed out their own blackboard I was grudgingly given some peas.

There were other little annoyances including having to get up and go to the bar for our drinks (we were in the restaurant not the bar).

I hope these are just teething troubles, I'll give it another month or two before giving them a last chance.

Not really good enough.

We have eaten here several times before and always enjoyed the whole experience. However, we ate there last night and it was appalling, it has obviously changed hands again, as it was not a patch on its former self.

The menu was full of seasonal salads. In November? (It was minus 5 degrees outside, definitely not salad weather.)

We started with goat cheese salad with walnuts (no walnuts, and far too much raw onion, totally over powered the subtle flavour of the goats cheese) and pate with a large salad garnish and only one slice of toast, which was sufficient for one of the two slices of pate given.

Tomato and tarragon soup was nice.

Followed by the mains of fish cake with selection of vegetables, this fish cake was deep fried and was inedible, carrots over cooked, swede cubes and new potatoes, and off the specials board brandy braised steak. This was described on the board as 'To Die For'. It was dry, over-cooked, had no flavour and had no brandy in the sauce whatsoever, set on a bed of mash.

We did however have a great bottle of red which we enjoyed.

When we mentioned this to the waitress (who was efficient) we were told it was the chef's first day. Should be his last as well.

It was such a disappointment, we have loved the food and atmosphere here so many times before, but on a Saturday night to only have 14 people in the whole place speaks volumes, or maybe it was REM coming out of the sound system that was putting people off. Definitely not the right background music for 'fine dining', as much as I like REM.

Avoid this place like the plague, until they get there act together.

Excellent restaurant/pub/B&B

My husband and I have tried many pubs and restaurants in the Yorkshire area, and in our opinion, this beats them all. The Sunday carvery is second-to-none, with a wide variety of roasts and vegetables all expertly cooked to perfection. There is a homely atmosphere to the pub, which makes you feel at home. There is a wide choice of starters and sweets if you can manage one after the carvery.

The decor is olde worlde, with great Christmas decorations in December. They have a large beer garden, which is decorated with very large colourful hanging baskets in the summer.

If you are worried about parking, then it is not a problem. They have a very large car park.

The owner is always on site and along with his staff is always pleasant, cheerful and helpful.
