We visited Portofino on Friday evening quite late. We received a very warm, friendly welcome from the staff, who didn't appear put out by this at all. The food was fantastic. I would rate the food 6 stars if I could. I wanted slightly different ingredients in my calzone and they were happy to oblige. We also had fried seafood to start, which was very fresh and very different, delicious. There is only one area where I think this restaurant could improve. It needs better ambiance. Otherwise we will definitely be back the next time we visit Sheffield and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Portofinos. Katie Stalker - 13th June 2011

Went with my partner and his parents. Had the most amazing meal in a relaxed atmosphere. The best Italian I have had in Sheffield. The food was tasty and the house white was lovely. The staff were lovely, very efficient, friendly, welcoming and helpful. The owner was an amazing host and friendly towards us. Would recommend Portofino to others. Thank you for a lovely evening. Can't wait to come back. Angie and Karl - 8th May 2011

We went this week to Portofinos restaurant to celebrate a family member's 21st birthday... and we were not disappointed ! Beautiful, clean, modern restaurant with an ample bar and seating area as you step into the restaurant, with comfy settees and chairs. We were warmly greeted at the door and from that moment on were treated with a first-class service. The table was large and roomy (great as we had tall men in our party) and the background Italian music was lovely and gave it a great atmosphere. The waitress and the manager were exceptionally friendly and very polite, they let us decorate the table for the occasion, although the table was beautifully presented. The food was delicious. We ranged from salmon and tagliatelle to calzone/pizza. We all commented how tasty they were and we were not kept waiting too long. We could see the food being freshly cooked from the open kitchen, and the aromas were mouth watering. We all managed a sweet, even though the mains were a very large portion (they don't skimp in this restaurant). Bottle of wine and house lagers, the coffees after were lovely too. This just topped off a lovely evening. The prices are very good and I would recommend looking at the specials board. Altogether Portofino gave us a wonderful evening of celebrations and I would highly recommend to anyone. It has a lovely romantic feel to this place that would suit large parties or a romantic meal for two. Thank you so much we will be back. Jenny Birks - 18th October 2010

My partner and I went for a meal to Portofino and have to say it was one of the best Italians we have had. We were greeted in a genuine and friendly way, before sitting in the stylish but cosy bar for a drink. The menu is extensive, with a wide range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. We ordered mixed seafood platter and Funghi Sorrento (mushrooms with prawns, tomato and mozzarella) to start. Presentation was fantastic, and the food was delicious. For mains, I ordered fillet steak with cream and peppercorns, and my partner ordered pasta with chicken, cream and tomatoes. The food smelt, looked and tasted beautiful, and you can see your food being cooked through the open kitchen. My steak was especially delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. A very clean and open restaurant, with a romantic atmosphere and we didn't feel rushed at any time and were able to take our time during and after the meal. Coffees are made in the traditional Italian way and staff are extremely attentive and helpful. An absolutely fantastic experience and a restaurant that we will definitely be returning to in the near future! Would recommend to all. Liz and Graeme Ralph - 15th June 2010

The food at Portofino is consistently good, it is imaginatively cooked and there is a good range from pizza and pasta to gorgeous fish and meat dishes with an Italian flair. The green apple sorbet is to die for. There is a new set menu during the week - worth investigating.
